You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Although to be fair, the teacher was probably more aiming it at the disorganised well off mummies!

"Said a year 3 pupil..." Brilliant.

DollyMixtureLulus · 10/01/2021 17:34

I feel really blah today. I’m in school twice this week in person at least.

chocolateisavegetable · 10/01/2021 17:35

Grin Oh thank you born - I absolutely needed something to make me smile!

RigaBalsam · 10/01/2021 17:35

I can have counselling amd be reassured by the lateral flow tests. Erm

MrsHamlet · 10/01/2021 17:37

How fucking rude, Riga

WTF?!

The lateral flow tests (instead of SI) are one of my biggest concerns about schools at the moment. How could they possibly be seen to be a reassuring plan to anyone?!

Guess my next option is the doctors. There is no dispensations it seems.
RigaBalsam · 10/01/2021 17:41

I know Appu apparently we have had no positives yet. Probably missed them.

hedgehogger1 · 10/01/2021 17:43

Oh @MrsHamlet can I have a copy of a teams guide please? Friends with a teacher at my kids school and she was saying they've got to write one

MrsHerculePoirot · 10/01/2021 17:45

Who can recommend me their thermal socks? Also something for hands but not full gloves? I know you’ve talked about but want to get some for my mum.

@RigaBalsam deffo take time if you need it.

Saucery · 10/01/2021 17:48

I know it’s not easy, Riga and there may be career considerations for you (not that it should make a difference and by the time this pandemic is over I don’t think they’ll be rushing to shove any teacher out of a job) but I do think if you have got to the point where it is affecting you so much then a GP visit and signed off might be the thing you need to do.
Stress can hit anyone, at any time, for lots of reasons and you won’t be on your own with not being able to take the situation any more.

MrsHamlet · 10/01/2021 17:49

@hedgehogger1 of course. Pm me your email address :)

MrsHamlet · 10/01/2021 17:50

@MrsHerculePoirot turtle doves fingerless gloves. I was sceptical but they're great.

RigaBalsam · 10/01/2021 17:53

Thanks both. Am not too bothered about climbing up the ladder. It is funny though that mental health is still looked at this way verses if I broke my leg.

JanuaryChill · 10/01/2021 17:59

Sounds like your head listens obediently to the Government riga. Thanks

MrsHamlet · 10/01/2021 18:00

Mental health is still such a taboo subject. I've suffered from depression on and off for years. I've thought about suicide. I'm not afraid to talk about it - but there are very few of my friends or colleagues who I can talk to about it because most people either don't want to know or don't know what to say.
I've a colleague off sick now with depression. I'm trying to be an ear because I know no one else will. I can't make it better but I can listen.
I'm okay right now - I have one real life person I can talk to, and you lot, and that's okay. But if someone else isn't okay, that's okay too.

JanuaryChill · 10/01/2021 18:03

And I keep meaning to say, anyone who's considering Turtle Doves fingerless gloves but is a bit 😮 at the price: sometimes they do a seconds/crafting kit thing where the offer a holed pair plus some nice buttons and thread to 'creatively' mend them, for about half the price. I thought would give it a go, and was delighted (not feeling terribly creative at the time) to receive a pair with no visible holes at all - v slightly piled, that's all!
