You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Would that work writing in class notebook do you know?
HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 05/01/2021 09:50

Will your dh share the childcare responsibility?

Yes he's great. His employer less so!

OnehorseopenBobsleigh · 05/01/2021 09:51

Good morning all!
Am annoyed that parent recorded DC's class zoom on phone and forwarded to other parents on WhatsApp. Just teacher speaking, no kids, but still.

JanuaryChill · 05/01/2021 09:51

Ah noble, your work is never over while U4T types are are still around

Why did they do that? Was it a lesson or a little message?

Parents need to be warned about that kind of thing actually, don't they?

OnehorseopenBobsleigh · 05/01/2021 09:56

@JanuaryChill
It was the 'this is what happens this week' zoom.
I'm tempted to report to school that this is happening (not say who of course).
I'd be really unhappy if that were me being recorded.

MrsH, yes I use it for marking in class notebook. It's compatible with all MS applications and a game changer for me that it works on the newer versions of SMART too!

CallmeAngelina · 05/01/2021 10:09

I would be LIVID if someone did that Zoom/WhatsApp thing to me. My Head would also take action.
Totally unacceptable.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 10:16

No one seems to have a clue what Sen schools are doing.

I thought they were open.

Very long new guidance last night possibly indicating KW and V. Except that will be many many kids that time. No idea how we set home school stuff for wider curriculum. Maths and lit is relatively easy.

Hmm, I've got one in my Amazon basket but no idea what I would use it for!

MrsHamlet · 05/01/2021 10:22

I do a lot of work in class notebook and using the mouse to mark is a pain!

CallmeAngelina · 05/01/2021 10:23

My Head said this morning that the DfE guidance says that vulnerable children includes any child who "finds it difficult to work at home."

No point in closing then, really?

Same! Apparently we are inviting some in!

If I'm teaching remotely, it's really useful for scribing onto Powerpoints, etc. It helps me to pace my writing for the pupils.

Good for marking. My laptop has a touch screen, but because I can't lay it flat, I prefer to plug in the inking pad.

JanuaryChill · 05/01/2021 10:43

I honestly think that things like effectively allowing some schools to be 50 % full, some employers to demand that their staff come into the office when not essential, etc, combined with the new strain, will lead to need for further measures. Things are beyond bad in some hospitals as it is.

And those further measures won't be easy.

(Doom?? Me????)

Appuskidu · 05/01/2021 10:44

If the DfE guidance is saying anyone can come in, at what point does Section 44 become applicable then? If you’ve got 25/30 in-it’s no different to before?!

Surely class sizes should stop at the limit where social distancing can be enforced and after that, no more?

We seemed to have few very coming in as of yesterday but if the guidance had changed, who knows?!

Cantaloupeisland · 05/01/2021 10:47

Basically now everybody counts as a keyworker and the criteria for 'vulnerable' is ridiculously lax. A primary near me has nearly 500 students in today!!

When individual Staff submit their Section 44?

This could get uglier quickly then.

No keyworker or vulnerable places, all Schools shut, impact on keyworker services, whoops apocalypse

Appuskidu · 05/01/2021 11:01

I suspect the unions will be busy again!

Piggywaspushed · 05/01/2021 11:10

We had 24 today. Large secondary school but all kids are older than 14. In the last lockdown we had 5.

Not an issue for us but scaled up, it is for primaries!

Hi Onehorse - You should have a ''code of conduct'' signed by each parent/child for home learning.

Which includes things like the lesson must not be recorded - no phones allowed - dress code etc.

HerdyGerdy · 05/01/2021 11:39

We have to be in. All staff. This feels ridiculous and doesn’t really stop transmission. FGS.
