You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

ThanksThanksThanksThanksto everyone with young children. It's very very tough. I can't imagine both of us trying to do remote learning 5 or 10 years ago when DS was younger. The only thing we have to worry about is if our WiFi will be fine. All live lessons here....

SoFranCisco · 05/01/2021 05:43

Today is going to be mostly powered by caffeine - sleep was not my friend last night! I think we have all but 1 of my SEN class in today but down two members of staff so we are going to be pushed to our limits to look after them - and on top of that need to look at what we can safely offer going forwards - we have far more wanting to be in this time - but shielding staff, staff with childcare problems etc so will probably have to do a rota for the children is my best guess - will have to see what SLT manage to sort today! Aaarrrgghh!!

minisoksmakehardwork · 05/01/2021 05:45

@DreamingofBrie - take that key worker place for your primary dc. Especially if you end up teaching from home.

Teaching is one role where I think even those working from home teaching classes should be able to access a key worker place. It would be impossible to be teaching your class online while supervising another class online. I'm sure someone would use safeguarding arguments given schools were originally asking teachers to teach online from their own classrooms to protect them prior to this latest announcement.

I'm an LSA and can't work from home (we will be supervising our usual students in school while teachers have been asked to teach from home following last night's statement). DH works in HMPS and cannot easily work from home, although admitted work have arranged laptops for his grade now due to a number coming back with positive tests.

We've agreed that he will finish early some days and I need to finish early others in order to collect our kids from school as our usual arrangement has fallen through due to school closure announcement - I have another key worker parent collect our kids who works at their school, but she's been allowed to finish at lunch and understandably doesn't want to drag her kids back out to pick ours up.

I'm hoping as I can work more this time than last time, my school agree to me finishing half an hour earlier.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 05:48

Hi all. Crap all sleep.

I can't justify a kw place; Dh isn't. He's head of the whole company and needs to turn the computers on though for remote working. (Can share this tho and im part time.) ds is now older too and likes home learning so he'll just have to do all that while I'm in . (Ds Quite likes bojo for cancelling school tbh.)

Last time I was CV. This time I'm in as we all are in sen.

Monkey Thanks that's one of the reasons why we are all in.

I notice sen are a priority actually, which is good.

Private nursery though so hoping toddler can be in. Poor staff pretty much all had it before Xmas.

Dh had it easy in a way, last time. He gave me some time to wfh (I wasn't setting work much) but I had to continue all summer to complete the task as a result. He may have to learn what it was like for me if toddler isn't in.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 05:49

and I may be quite pleased about that

Monkeytennis97 · 05/01/2021 05:58

Do you think Bojo didn't have the guts to tell Gav and went rogue given that Twitter post last night?

Today I will be mostly teaching DH teams again and prepping year 12 lessons. Start teaching tomorrow. Hope our internet holds out.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 06:02

Which twitter post?

Morning everyone.

Piggywaspushed · 05/01/2021 06:44

We knew we weren't lying about covid prevalence amongst schol staff : any thread on MN about 'who do you know who ahs had it' revealed that too.

What is even more shocking is that only 3/28 councils supplied the info!!

HarrietDVane · 05/01/2021 06:45

Morning all and good luck today! No idea what the plan is for today so I'm going in as normal. See you on the other side.

TheHoneyBadger · 05/01/2021 06:48

Oops today!

I just have a second year 7 lesson to record today. Day off but I'd overlooked the one group that has a lesson Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

Other than that I've got a man coming to service the boiler and need clean his path and close all other doors so he doesn't see the mess and my friend is coming to take the dog beforehand because I may not have gotten round to letting my landlords know I have one.

January starts tomorrow for me BlushFew beers left in the house.

They may well have been concerned about contradicting the Government messaging and what the consequences of that might have been. I suppose it's even possible that they asked central Government before choosing not to respond and that these councils just didn't give a fuck.
Piggywaspushed · 05/01/2021 06:52

I'd go for the latter with mine having seen my council's facebook post yesterday and read their covid advice page to parents which says to send their DCs in if they are ill and the school can't tell or ask you not to...

TheHoneyBadger · 05/01/2021 06:55

Wow piggy.

Do we think the legal proceedings are why we now have this data?
