You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Morning everyone Smile

Good luck today - whether you are in school or working from home! I am in school now - I have told my Y11s they must log on as no decision about how assessment will work has yet been made.

It's shocking that it has taken so much to get data!Angry

My DC are 7 and 9 and at the moment I’m keeping them at home - I don’t need to go into college and DP is self-employed and works from home anyway so hopefully we can manage it. Sending them in just seems like unnecessary risk, it adds to school’s burden and it’s a faff as we don’t live in walking distance from school.

If they were younger though I’d definitely think about it so don’t judge anyone for using a KW place - and I might change my mind in a couple of weeks once I’ve tried live teaching!

Our principal has cancelled our January exams. We don’t have enough invigilators (a lot of them are retired so possibly shielding) and he thinks they’re better served by being CAGged in summer anyway. Which is probably true but I feel sorry for my classes who were supposed to sit them this week. Had an email at 1.30am from an anxious boy. I’ll set them a remote mock this week instead.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 08:14

I know!

Thanks for taking one for the team and making a stand on our behalf Thanks

Morning, back in today (from home), this is by far the earliest I've been up in two weeks!
Should I read the TES article now or will it just make me Angry?

DreamingofBrie · 05/01/2021 08:20

Good luck to everyone who is going in today, and thanks for the support last night Flowers. It's only the 5 period days which I'm really concerned about. We pretty much teach live to timetable, and a very small minority of our parents are very vocal.

Trying to reassure myself that no-one complained about me last lockdown. Nothing from dc's primary school re. KW provision yet, but they start later in the week.

@Piggywaspushed

KoG did you Gina Ford yours?
No, didn't do anything, just struggled through like most!

Apologies I have asked before and I have lost my search. Can someone send me a link to the plug in board to draw on teams?

Here you go - it's on a flash sale today.

I've just bought a multi port USB hub so i can plug my headset/mic and my inking pad in at the same time.

Piggywaspushed · 05/01/2021 08:40

That SIS document is quite flawed as well. It harks back to the much disputed ONS figures and then goes on to admit their infection rates are only calculated based on staff in school at the time (for admittedly obvious reasons) so does not include those who were ill or SI!

MrsHamlet · 05/01/2021 08:41

Massive volte face from head. We've gone from "teach from home unless x" to "you need to be in school unless compelling reason"
Fuck sake.

Piggywaspushed · 05/01/2021 08:41

Wrong thread..

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 09:04

Re babies toddlers; number one fought every thing including nappies. Very frustrated baby. (Delightful child). Refused cots or high chairs.

Number 2 slept through most things till 4 mo including an entire nappy and very awkward but cute stretchy dungaree change. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (hope no 2 remains calm and doesn't switch over!)

RigaBalsam · 05/01/2021 09:14

Thanks Dreaming

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 05/01/2021 09:16

Nursery refused KW place as dh works from home. I could cry.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 09:27

Oh no riga!

Ours wasn't clever enough to ask about a Dh working from home Hmm

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 09:27

Sorry to Herc. That's a nightmare.

GravityFalls · 05/01/2021 09:37

Ugh, sorry about that herc, I’d hate a toddler around. I’ve cobbled together some worksheets and books from last time to fling at the kids this morning while I work. I’ve also set up a whiteboard outside my room telling them exactly when they can and can’t come in!

Live teams meeting with my level 2 BTEC class - I told them after the announcement I’d been immediately texting my partner teacher worrying about them and sorting out what they were going to do and the chat filled with “aww!” “They care about us!”

The level 2 classes are the ones most likely to feel like school never gave a shit about them so I’m pleased they feel like we care (we do!).

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 05/01/2021 09:38

Does anyone know the guidance on maintained nursery?

Private nursery are open yet apparently maintained are allowed to shut because they're attached to a primary school.

DreamingofBrie · 05/01/2021 09:39

Sorry to hear, herc. Will your dh share the childcare responsibility?

Noble, your latest thread is making me cross! My dc haven't seen a dentist for over a year as their appointments keep getting cancelled, and when I managed to get in during the summer, I was temp checked at the door, asked a load of questions, the only one in the waiting room and charged an extra £7 for PPE! NOT that I begrudge any of this, but I'd also love to see the positivity rates for dentists to see how they compare Hmm.

Anecdotally, around 5% of our staff have tested positive, compared with a 0.5% rate in our local area.
