You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

We have a Rota to be in school - Once a week in school (One other day on standby incase somebody is ill)

Lessons can be done from home.

Saucery · 05/01/2021 12:18

20 in a class. Might as well all be in as far as transmission mitigation is concerned. What a fucking joke.

JanuaryChill · 05/01/2021 12:19

Our place is saying teachers busy teaching from home (or school if they really need to), so Associate Staff on KW supervision duty. And SENCO making darn sure her staff aren't the ones wholly landed with it as kind of happened (with the more vulnerable ones I think) last time.

KatherineOfGaunt · 05/01/2021 12:26

So far, all but two of our SEN kids are coming in so it'll be work as usual for me this lockdown!

The only difference being smaller class sizes in the rest of the school, so at least when I'm in class I won't be with quite as many people.

Section 44 still applies if you don’t think it’s a safe workplace - it’s ridiculous to have that many
HerdyGerdy · 05/01/2021 12:34

How many children do you have in??

Between thirty and fifty I think (I’ve heard different amounts all morning).

But 100 staff.

FlagsFiend · 05/01/2021 12:44

I think if a parent recorded a zoom and shared it, it would get their child banned from the meetings in future. We have a very strict home learning policy that absolutely bans that from happening.

flumposie · 05/01/2021 12:52

Survived my first live lesson with year 12. However none stop messages via teams from year 7 and 8 who either hadn't read instructions properly or couldn't get the technology to work. Not sure how many can do the work but what can I do from my home ?

flumposie · 05/01/2021 13:04

Also my own primary child has done nothing since we share a laptop.

CallmeAngelina · 05/01/2021 13:09

@Cantaloupeisland

Basically now everybody counts as a keyworker and the criteria for 'vulnerable' is ridiculously lax. A primary near me has nearly 500 students in today!!
Our head is filtering them out like crazy. We have around 10 today for Yrs 3 and 4 who are bubbled together. They are staffed by TAs, with teaching staff dealing with remote learning (which is pretty intense at the moment).
CallmeAngelina · 05/01/2021 13:12

Have just thought: that TES article on infection statistics covered a month where one week had schools closed for a week. So the figures might even be worse than that?

JanuaryChill · 05/01/2021 13:29

R4 World at One: Michael Wilshaw effectively saying Gavin W should resign.

The interviewer at one point - incredulous tone:

"Can I just clarify, you're saying that headteachers were about to launch a legal challenge to the government keeping schools open??"

(Not exact words, but similar)

RigaBalsam · 05/01/2021 13:43

Is anyone else meant to do Teams lessons and have a few kids in the room.

OnehorseopenBobsleigh · 05/01/2021 13:48

Thanks for all the responses everyone.
Parent has now tried to delete their vid from WhatsApp. Maybe they're on MN. If so - hi, and don't do that again!

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 05/01/2021 13:48

We would not be expected to do that Riga (and unions would back us) but I think things are a bit different up here.

I am sure the Naswat guidance is not too. Hmm

So far I've had a whole load of emails from year 7, who have all sent me photos of their work Grin
I've also had work sent in from my year 11 nurture group. Almost all of them have had a good go at the work I sent this morning, which I'm amazed by, I thought they would have heard the announcement last night and decided they don't need to do anything any more. But they've (mostly) looked at their emails, seen some work and done it Grin
Only one from my cleverer year 11 classes has done anything yet though.
We were sent a list of pupils who have internet issues, and it looks like live lessons are not going to be appropriate for any of my classes due to tech availablity. Sixth form classes are a possibility, but lower down there are just too many of them who can't access live lessons. So video explanations it is.

I've ordered one of those graphics pads now, and a headset with microphone so I'm louder on my videos and hopefully I'll down it the sound of the neighbours dogs barking (and the neighbours swearing in their shed with their friends, you'd never believe we're tier 4 and the hospitals are overwhelmed)

year5teacher · 05/01/2021 13:56

So I’ll be in full time, teaching at least 20 children the normal curriculum. I won’t be able to socially distance from them, and we still don’t have PPE or windows that open. No rota system so I mean... it’s essentially normal work! I don’t really mind but I will not be able to physically stop myself from losing it if I hear people saying how teachers are having a break.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 13:58

I know, it's starting to look that way with us. No idea how many kids in yet going forward but I'm concerned that we have enough that we have our hands full plus all the home learning, which is v hard for Sen.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 14:05

Primary staff, is your school intending to send stuff like geography, RE and art or Dt home?

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 14:05

Ict?!

JanuaryChill · 05/01/2021 14:06
