You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

We've been back to Teams this week. One important thing to remember is to set your meeting options so that only you can present. You can also choose that only you can unmute people too, although I think that setting to "only I present" takes away the ability of others to mute you.

It's a complete pain because as far as I know, you need to change settings for each meeting individually and you need to set up the meeting first, then go back into it to access the meeting options. All a bit of a faff, but without fail, when I've forgotten to do this, some joker has thought it would be a great idea to mute me every 3 seconds then go around kicking others out of the meeting.

@SmileEachDay

Think there's few of us on here who are either completely alone/childless for all or some of the 25th this year! Much harder with no notice though

(Maybe we should have a 24 hr sub thread or something? Or is that more complicated?)

Great idea.

❤️❤️❤️
FiggyPuddingFiend · 19/12/2020 08:57

I like the idea of a 24 hr Christmas thread. Just me and my DH here for Christmas, I was too worried about taking the virus to relatives to arrange to meet up. As it turns out I'd probably be one of the safest people in the country as I've been off school for the last week and a half recovering from it... Antibodies and isolation!

Cracklefraggle · 19/12/2020 08:57

Feeling festively rebellious! Not going to do anything school related over these hols - not even thinking about the shit show we will walk back into.

I'm going to sort out my house - looks like my classroom when I gave my yr8 form a Christmas party in my NQT year - and focus on my own child for a change.

Jan will bring what Jan will bring and I'll deal with it then. For now I siggest we all rest, get VERY drunk and give 2020 the expletive ridden boot up the arse it deserves!

Cracklefraggle · 19/12/2020 08:58

Oh, and Merry Christmas everyone Xmas Grin

Maths and science teachers gearing up for live lessons - don't forget about Desmos! teacher.desmos.com/ Makes the whole thing so much easier when you can actually see what they're typing as they type it rather than trying to get them answer in chat.

SmileEachDay · 19/12/2020 09:05

I think we’re teaching “live” when we get back. I’m currently looking at whether we might be able to embed some of the Oak National videos into our lessons - the KS3 grammar ones, for example, are ok. So I’m thinking live lesson can be - introduction by class teacher, Oak National, class teacher ending activity.

BreadSaucery · 19/12/2020 09:08

Going for a test this morning. Banging constant headache and very flushed. Not taking any chances.

👍. I've stills not got to grips with Desmos, it's on my list of things to do this holiday 😭.
OpheliasCrayon · 19/12/2020 09:14

@noelgiraffe

Welcome Ophelia! Help yourself to the biscuits.

Agree this has been a shitty term and the announcement yesterday has basically just finished us all off.

Maybe we should ask MNHQ to invite Gav on for a web chat.

The other day I did a food tech lesson where we did the class decorating biscuits with icing and sprinkles.... It seems that the end of term government fuckery has led me to make these for myself on an evening (once the kids are in bed ) as a reasonable after dinner snack...

DfE if you see this... This is what you're doing to grown adults 😋

OpheliasCrayon · 19/12/2020 09:15

I...I don’t see the problem?

Hi Orphelia!

Hi Orphelia!

It's great! I did eat a few during the lesson as well because I was "demonstrating"
MsAwesomeReindeer · 19/12/2020 09:24

Ophelia that seems like a perfectly acceptable after dinner snack to me. We decorated gingerbread houses with Brownies last week (over Teams) and I was most disappointed that barn owl who made the gingerbread and put the packs together didn't make enough for us leaders to have one as well. The Brownies seemed to have loads of fun and they looked very tasty when they all munched as we were doing our finishing off chat.

namechangedyetagain · 19/12/2020 09:26

Heard this morning that my class teacher has also tested positive. Now I finished last Friday so I'm hopeful that it didn't come from me, however I'm wondering if it's come from a class member? Either way it's pretty shit for us all. Again, teacher had no real symptoms apart from feeling knackered which everyone does this time of year.

Today as soon as I have the energy to get up I need to think about Christmas and see what Amazon can provide!

We are oak academy all the way. Live lessons completely optional - although I'm considering one for my y12 towards the end of the week. Obviously y12 can't have oak academy, but I haven't done a live lessons for them before just made my own oak academy equivalent on Google classroom - link to text book, video (either me on loom or a good YouTube one), practise questions with self assessment, exam question to submit that I mark and give feedback on.

I would LOVE to see him engage with @noelgiraffe and the rest of the posse on here. He'd be eaten alive!

GavInhiding · 19/12/2020 09:41

We have made it clear that education of our children is a national priority. Chris Whitty provided very clear evidence that the risks to children of missing 3 days of education outweigh the benefits of seeing grandma.

It's lovely here in Gran Canaria. I hope you are all replanning your lessons and having a restful break because I am so grateful.

Id supply the ring side snacks. Iced biscuits of course

That feels slightly unfair to me lol! I'm contemplating buying one of the decorate your own gingerbread houses kits for my kids but I can't remember where to buy them! Anyone seen any this year and can point me in the direction of one?

Also this holiday I am going to try out all my sensory and craft ideas with my kids for my new terms planning. I found lots of stuff yesterday on our INSET day, especially some fairy sparkly stuff (traditional tales )and then lots of stars/ space / galaxy stuff for our light and dark topic .

I'm sen and my kids love doing the activities that I take to school so basically I'm making my own children do my prep
