You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Think there's few of us on here who are either completely alone/childless for all or some of the 25th this year! Much harder with no notice though.

(Maybe we should have a 24 hr sub thread or something? Or is that more complicated?)

I'm only adult in the house and alone for at least a couple of hours, after visiting my brother in his care home (still debating about getting tested).

HarrietDVane · 18/12/2020 21:48

We made it! Wine

Sorry to hear how poorly you’ve been starry and name - hope you’re feeling much brighter soon.

So, so glad to have limped across the finish line. Fell asleep on the sofa for an hour when I got home - the exhaustion overwhelmed me. Just hope I can still sleep tonight.

A good day at school, but two children in my class off with symptoms - both being tested today. HT will be notified of results - hoping against hope for negatives.

DrMadelineXMASwell · 18/12/2020 21:50

Really glad we've finished properly now. I really hate remote teaching even though we aren't expected to do live lessons or recorded lessons. Instead the HT expects us to roll that stuff out THEN spend the day tidying and doing a lot of planning for next term inc auditing the new curriculum and creating all the new planning documentation for it.

They don't want the kids to not be here in the first week(s) of Jan, but will grasp it as an excuse to get more paperwork out of us at the same time as we are to do the google classroom stuff.

I'm doing NO school planning in the next 2 weeks.

Assuming you live in a house then contactless deliveries are easy to organise. You don't need to specify a safe place in advance as you know you'll be in Smile Just when they knock on the door go to and tap on the closest window and gesture to put it on the doorstep. I've had lots of deliveries this week and had no issues with people understanding what I want to happen. Once they have gone, open the door and nab the parcel.

Hi! I've just been show this secret little room...ive only ever really looked on the coronavirus board so I could chat with teachers ...
End of fucking them. Way to end the term kicking us when we're down ..sen teacher here... and exhaustedWine

I was just talking to a teacher friend about how this policy sounds like one of those Thick of It sessions where they’re chucking around crap policy ideas.

Welcome Ophelia! Help yourself to the biscuits.

Agree this has been a shitty term and the announcement yesterday has basically just finished us all off.

Maybe we should ask MNHQ to invite Gav on for a web chat.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 18/12/2020 22:15

I got annoyed at work today so I kept the tin of chocolates I bought ... they're next to the photocopier.

noelgiraffe · 18/12/2020 22:20

I was so annoyed yesterday evening about stupid Gav that I forgot to go to the shops to buy biscuits for my tutor group extended period.

Then they won the attendance prize which was a tin of heroes so they got to eat those. Phew.

FiggyPuddingFiend · 18/12/2020 22:24

On the subject of policy from a comedy sketch - here is a different potential solution... It amused me anyway, also reminds me slightly of the book Ella Minnow Pea.

SaltyAF · 18/12/2020 22:37

I did that as well. Mozzas was all out of tubs of chocolates so I bought overpriced cartons. My form was so arsey that I left them for the cleaner instead.

I kind of love the optimism in still having an attendance prize this term.

Is everyone finished now or are a few people still having to limp on for a couple of days next week?

OytheBumbler · 18/12/2020 22:47

Less chocolate in the staff room is one of the reasons Spring 1 is so hard!

TheEchtMeaningofChristmas · 19/12/2020 02:43

At least Phil appreciates us

I wouldn't usually click on the Daily Fail, and don't even teach in the UK, but very nice.

Outstanding link, noelgiraffe. Stewart is soo Dominic Cummings, isn't he?

A big thumbs up to all the UK teachers. 👍

Welcome Ophelia, I've seen you on threads. I've been too tired and busy to comment much, I'm sen also, primary. ✌️ makes a mockery of any concept of social distancing doesn't it?!

Hope you've had a glorious lie in. Toddler slept through till 5 yippee! Although of course I've been awake since then...

NeurotreeWenceslas · 19/12/2020 06:20

I know you all know this and sorry if I'm late with this but the heat maps for England clearly show all cases to start in the 15-25 ages groups for each wave.

Of course higher likely hood of asymptomatic in younger years...

And just not testing them.

Has the outcome of that school research happened?

Would that be the lesser-spotted Gav? Think he’s got stuck in the fridge with Boris. Or lost on his way to the staff room. Or kidnapped. We should send a Year 8 search party to the office. At the very least, his absence needs reporting.

Danglingmod · 19/12/2020 06:48

Maybe he's coded himself with an X so it doesn't count?

NeurotreeWenceslas · 19/12/2020 07:22

🤣

ChloeDeckTheHalls · 19/12/2020 07:23

Awww thank you Phil! I’m sure if he was younger he would have given all the inept politicians a right dressing down, a la Phil-style!

NeurotreeWenceslas · 19/12/2020 07:23

He'll be too scared of being giraffed to come here.

WhenSheWasBad · 19/12/2020 08:03

Sorry about Xmas day smile that’s crap.

So tired today. It might have something to do with drinking a bit too much last night.

We are doing live lessons when we return. I’ve never done them before so I’m going to have to practice over Christmas. Sigh.

MsAwesomeReindeer · 19/12/2020 08:23

I'm going to be practising over Christmas too. I've used Teams as a participant, but I've only ever been in control for Brownies meetings, where it's not really very important for me to be brilliant at the technology. My nieces also need to check that they can use teams on their tablets (they've both done it on a laptop during self isolations, but only have one laptop between 2 so now need to use a tablet for one of them). We're going to have a few practice teams lessons over Christmas. Apparently it's ok if I want to teach them some maths, they will happily do some equations for me, lol.
