You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I think he forgot to tell any employers.

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 19/12/2020 16:46

Tier 4

They are too scared to address the secondary/college school student issue. 1000 plus kids coming in mainly on bus/train from around the catchment area

Plus parents allowing them to meet up and mix

noelgiraffe · 19/12/2020 16:48

Why isn’t this being asked?

This would explain why the secondary schools went mental in those areas.

noelgiraffe · 19/12/2020 16:49

Really sorry to those in tier 4 and those who are now having to change Christmas plans :(

Isthatitnow · 19/12/2020 16:49

No mention of education at all for the duration of the press conference. Why?

FiggyPuddingFiend · 19/12/2020 16:51

I guess because it's the holiday and to tell us now what the plan is would give schools too much notice...
Piggywaspushed · 19/12/2020 16:51

Cos we's on holidays innit?

NeurotreeWenceslas · 19/12/2020 16:55

DH kicking off about golf. Sorry lurkers.

Big lols!

I remember how awful it was to get some weird extra restrictions in September in the NE; it felt suffocating. sorry for those in t4.

Isthatitnow · 19/12/2020 16:56

Of course! Lightbulb moment!

eitak22 · 19/12/2020 16:57

Feel so bad for a friend who's tier 4 now and was meant to be going to her parents. Shes now on her own for christmas. They should have announced this sooner! We should be on remote learning in secondaries (understand primaries needing to stay open).

Why are school staff who are vulnerable still at work as well? It's not fair there is no protection in place.

DecemberStar · 19/12/2020 17:03

I guess they'll publish the "new guidance" in a couple of hours and then we might know about schools. But he did say t4 was like the Nov lockdown.

So sorry for those having to change plans and the emotional effects of that.

If Peston's sure of that info why on earth didn't he ask it?!

RigaBalsam · 19/12/2020 17:06

My daughters sister just left her London uni last night to head to Devon. Glad she managed to get home.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 19/12/2020 17:21

I have no clue what's going on any more. Sister is with mum now so at least mum has someone with her. I'm so fed up of everything.

MrsHercYulePoirot · 19/12/2020 17:26

Tier 4 here too.

I’m going to use loads of that letter to my own MP and Gav also if ok.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/12/2020 17:28

Tier 2 here Sorry to those having to change plans

Danglingmod · 19/12/2020 17:31

Me, too.

Got to say, I'm a bit amazed by how many people on other threads claim to have "been isolating for two weeks" so they're safe to break the new rules. Are there really that many people on MN who don't have school aged children? I think some of them are excluding their kids having been in school from their "risk assessment" Hmm

eitak22 · 19/12/2020 17:32

Flowers and Gin to all of you who have had plans changed/going to have Christmas alone. Hopefully we can have the 24hr support thread.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 19/12/2020 17:32

But schools are safe remember ... except when Boris says they're not.

Danglingmod · 19/12/2020 17:35

Yeah, that's what I mean.

They've done a right number on people's actual ability to risk assess/think critically, haven't they?

KnowingMeKnowingYule · 19/12/2020 17:35

Tier 4.

If I can't see DS I won't be able to go back to school

Danglingmod · 19/12/2020 17:36

I'm so sorry. I really hope you still can.

BreadSaucery · 19/12/2020 17:36

I know of a few families who took the unauthorised absence for their dc in order to be as safe as possible for meeting (limited) family over the 5 day period. They did what they thought was best at the time and my heart goes out to them now it’s all been for nothing.

SmileEachDay · 19/12/2020 17:37

Seems rough on London, given that all the data suggests it’s schools that are driving infection rates up.

Including those London’schools that the government threatened with legal action a couple of days ago.

BreadSaucery · 19/12/2020 17:38

@KnowingMeKnowingYule

Tier 4.

If I can't see DS I won't be able to go back to school

Has there been any clarification yet on that? I really hope you can Flowers and if you can’t then I totally sympathise with putting your job down the list of shit you need to care about. X
