You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I got our gingerbread house kits in IKEA.
It feels such a cheat - I used to make the gingerbread myself etc, but this year I'm just too knackered, and it is gingerbread house kits, frozen Yorkshire's, frozen roasties etc all the way....

ChloeDeckTheHalls · 19/12/2020 10:47

Gotta love Aunt Bessies GleamingBaubles Xmas Grin

GleamingBaubles · 19/12/2020 11:01

Aunt Bessie to the rescue of burnt out teachers! Grin

This is decent if you want to know more about using desmos. There are also lots of hints and tips on the desmos website itself.

HarrietDVane · 19/12/2020 11:08

I did the classic biscuit-and-sweetie house construction lesson this week too. It’s practically the law in primary. These are a simple option for people like me who have no baking skills Xmas Wink

MrsHercYulePoirot · 19/12/2020 11:14

Thanks for the Desmos reminders/links. I did a short hour session on it last week, following the chat previously on here and it was great! Going to try it with some classes in that first week back!

KnowingMeKnowingYule · 19/12/2020 11:22

Is Desmos just for maths?

Hercwasonasnowball · 19/12/2020 11:25

Not just for maths. You could use it for any subject. It's great for anonymous quick feedback from students. Not so good for extended answers, I'd say they'd be better on teams or equivalent.

KnowingMeKnowingYule · 19/12/2020 11:50

@Hercwasonasnowball ah thank you!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 19/12/2020 12:52

Oh my god. My 6 year old child has just shouted ' Boris Johnson is an absolute shit... and he looks like shit... but I know I can't say that at school'

There is no way we're going to get through primary school without a phone call about language use.

Hercwasonasnowball · 19/12/2020 12:56

Hahahaha rule!

My 3yo says similar 😬

I can't even reprimand him for it!

MrsHercYulePoirot · 19/12/2020 12:58

My then just 5yo told DH to ‘stop fucking about’... I mean it was in context....

NeurotreeWenceslas · 19/12/2020 12:59

Oh god aunt bessies can be saviour! Should always have a packet in class!

One year when i and a new TA were left with the y6s on the day when everyone swaps to meet their new classes. We were down for cooking but who ever planned it forgot to tell me this and also forgot the ingredients.

No bessies unfortunately but hot chocolate powder, SR flour and an egg begged from the kitchen created chocolate mug cakes which saved us!

MsAwesomeReindeer · 19/12/2020 12:59

That's so funny rule! At least he knows he can't say it at school 🤣 And he's using the language appropriately and in context.

I just recorded the first year 7 remote lesson on loom and shared to drive. Term starts 4/11 but remote learning starts 5/11 at our school. So I've actually just completed 90% of my remote learning responsibility (I create all of year 7 stuff, others create the other year groups and I just have to assign it to my groups) for the first couple of days back. I'm likely going to end up doing the same for year 8 and one thematic side of year 9 too because I don't have any exam year classes currently so I'm happy to take the load off of those who do have exam year groups (one of my colleagues has about 80% year 11 and 13 so it doesn't seem fair that she's solely responsible for creating content for year 9).

Never sure if this will be seen as generous and helpful or sticking my nose in Confused I know I intend it to be the former but ??

I'm guessing as someone with no exam groups I'll have shifts with the kw and vulnerable children but don't know as maybe that will be covered by TAs and our cover supervisors who have no remote learning to provide. It's all up in the air at the minute obviously for everyone.

No one should be working today obviously! I have just had the week off isolating and feel guilty and energised hence doing it today.

Still waiting on test results. Coming by text and hoping to get them sometime today because I'm beginning to feel a bit cooped up in here.

My 8 yr old asked me if “That tosser with the stupid hair” was going to win the American election. Then said “sorry, I know stupid is a bad word”.

😂😂😂😂

I fear my use of “tosser” might be less under my breath than I thought 🤷🏻‍♀️

SmileEachDay · 19/12/2020 13:09

I’m exam class heavy this year. If my colleague recorded some KS3 for me I’d probably propose on the spot. 😍

The gift of time is definitely the way to a teacher’s heart!!

hedgehogger1 · 19/12/2020 13:22

M&S sell gingerbread house kits. My friend dropped one off for the kids

Achristmaspudsskidu · 19/12/2020 13:25

I’m aware this might be a thread about a thread so sorry if I end up deleting the whole republic but I was just wondering how many secondary schools have midday assistants supervising children in schools at lunchtimes now? I haven’t seen or heard of one for decades in secondary.

CountDuckulasCranberrySauce · 19/12/2020 13:31

honey, your department is lucky to have you. wish you were in my department. not that we're going for your sensible solution. live lessons all the way for us, teaching the keyworker etc kids in person and everyone else at home simultaneously. We had a lot of keyworkers in, including y10 in spring, reckon it will be at least a couple in each class which is going to make it much more difficult to do teams as they were the most challenging of our kids.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/12/2020 13:50

Good to know Smile. I seem to have trodden on a few invisible land mines recently so treading cautiously and not wanting to upset anyone. Historians are way more sensitive than the scientists I was with last year.

Count that just sounds like madness to me. Loads of kids don't engage even with flexible do them when you can recorded lessons so I dread to think what uptake would be like with live or nothing. Basically spinning plates in the air for those few privileged organised kids/households who need you least whilst leaving no way in for those who need you most imho.

noelgiraffe · 19/12/2020 13:54

I feel like I would pay to see him get mauled by @noelgiraffe

Id supply the ring side snacks. Iced biscuits of course

I’m up for this. So up for this.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 19/12/2020 13:57

We have lunchtime supervisors but staff also "volunteer" for lunch duty. We get paid with a daily school lunch.
