You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@namechangedyetagain

I'm positive Sad
Oh bloody hell name. Hope it’s not too bad a bout for you. Are you still feeling rubbish?
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/12/2020 15:57

Oh no, named.

I've got someone else's results. Possibly. So I'm back on the SI bench for a bit.

MsAwesomeReindeer · 16/12/2020 15:59

Oh no name!! I hope it stays mild for you and you recover quickly Flowers

MsAwesomeReindeer · 16/12/2020 16:02

herc try the artful maths website. There's a lovely lesson on constructing snowflakes that I've done with my older/brighter pupils. There's a PowerPoint that gives full instructions, and talks about the symmetry parts of snowflakes.

KnowingMeKnowingYule · 16/12/2020 16:08

Sorry to hear that@namechangedyetagain hope you are ok Thanks

MadameMinimes · 16/12/2020 16:13

Hope you’re feeling better soon name.

Anyone else here on TeacherTapp?
Only 64% of teachers reported that their schools were fully open yesterday.
4% reported that their schools were closed to all but key workers/vulnerable yesterday and 25% closed to some classes.

There were also 7% non-answers. Perhaps some of that explained by private schools having already broken up for the holidays.

noelgiraffe · 16/12/2020 16:19

Oh crap, name it does feel like teachers are dropping like flies in here. Hope you feel better for Christmas.

AllDoneIn · 16/12/2020 16:20

@namechangedyetagain sorry to hear that Sad How are you feeling?

I felt a bit better today after a very early night last night but my god, year 9 were feral! Can't think of a better word but feral they were! I walked out the door the second the bell went as a sort of protest!

Cracklefraggle · 16/12/2020 16:20

@KnowingMeKnowingYule

Just spent another £70 on fpp3 masks for school for DH and I? Isn't there something about money back for work clothes/uniforms from somewhere? I've spent around £200 for masks, gloves, sanitiser, sprays for us both since September... if this shit show is going to go on until next Summer I'm sure there was somewhere we can claim for this. Does anyone have any ideas?
I know it isn't ideal but I reuse mine with a week inbetween. 2 days in bag then air dry for 5. Looked into it online and it seems to be ok - so far anyway.
Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 16:22

All the best name !

FiggyPuddingified · 16/12/2020 16:35

@namechangedyetagain

I'm positive Sad
Flowers get lots of rest and I hope you start feeling better soon.

Don't do too much too soon. I thought I was feeling better, but now feel worse again Sad

PumpkinPie2016 · 16/12/2020 17:05

Two my Y11s are now having to isolate Xmas Sad

I had a decent day today -taught 4 lessons and all were lovely Xmas Smile delivered the final faculty meeting of the term and the team were fab at completing the thing we needed to do before we had festivities Xmas Smile

I'm so tired though! I keep yawning!

One and half days to go!

DreamingofBrie · 16/12/2020 17:07

Sending you wishes for a speedy recovery, name. Get lots of rest x

TheHoneyBadger · 16/12/2020 17:08

Oh no name! I'm so sorry! Did you have plans for Christmas? Presume you've let school know. I really am sorry.

Friend's result came back as inconclusive. I really, really am hoping ds and I get clear negatives. Tests have arrived but too late for posting so will be doing them tomorrow and getting them into the post. Last time I think it recommended doing the test as close to post time as you can and directed you to which post box near you to use. Will open them up and have a good read in the morning.

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 16/12/2020 17:18

Get well soon name Sorry you are having to go through this. Flowers
I'm intrigued by the ffp3 masks - I sometimes splash out on the ffp2 ones, but never ventured upwards! Are they comfortable enough to wear while teaching?

namechangedyetagain · 16/12/2020 17:26

I feel not too bad thank you, but shocked. Really shocked. I naively thought that I wouldn't catch it. I'm not exactly fit or healthy though so now I'm worrying in case I get really ill. Also in case I pass it to my children and husband. Just feel shocked. And tired and have achey joints. Don't want to read too much in case it scares me.

But it's pretty much scuppered Christmas for us.

BreadSaucery · 16/12/2020 17:41

Oh no, name I’m really sorry. Not everyone I know who has had it has been young, fit and peak physical condition, if that helps? One of the CEV people breezed through it in a few days, in fact.
Try and take it day by day and only concentrate on your own symptoms. Agree that ‘reading around the subject’ can be a bad idea. Flowers

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/12/2020 17:54

Thank you for your suggestion of the pirate game upthread. Last day for my y6 today and 10 off so we gave this a try. They had never played it, loved it and have requested the pirate version for later in the year.

CallmeAngelGabriel · 16/12/2020 17:58

Oh name! What an absolute PAIN. That's what we're all dreading.
Hope you don't feel too unwell with it.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/12/2020 18:00

Even not exactly fit and unhealthy I'm sure the odds are in your favour, name. Take the opportunity for a good rest. You probably deserve it anyway.

Are you able to isolate yourself as much as possible from your DH and DC?

DecemberStar · 16/12/2020 18:05

Take care name.

Rafals what's happened with you then, are you Covid-free or not? Hope it's not too complicated.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/12/2020 18:08

Did the school mix the test and the packaging rafals? Each test and packaging has it's own code.

namechangedyetagain · 16/12/2020 18:23

Well our house is small so not exactly much scope for isolating. Felt so bad telling my placement school. But yes I probably do need the rest before placement 2 starts.

Fingers crossed for those still waiting for results Flowers

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 18:27

My local news is about to devote virtually the whole programme to schools.

Pretty pointless at the end of term, mind.

DecemberStar · 16/12/2020 18:30

I heard the end of what sounded like a good piece on R4 this morning interviewing a Head of Lower School about the reality of his life at the moment (and what it might be up to Christmas Eve). Don't know where he was but I'd guess Midlands maybe.
