You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Sleepless night here. So much for cracking on with my next assignment this week so I could take next week as rest.

Feeling quite ropey with achey joints this morning so pretty sure I just have an end of term cold. Everyone is home today SI until my results come back. So not much chance of peace and quiet with grumpy children about.

Good luck for today all, 2 more days to go.

I know there are some brilliant maths construction teachers on here.... Any ideas for instructions for one I can do with students? Google is stressing me out!

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 08:37

I know I shouldn't mention another thread but in this case I think it's OK. The info on lateral test form some people whose schools have been done on another thread in Cv board is interesting. Even more interesting are the thoughts of a hospital doctor (whose ER themed name is a big clue to their job and someone still assumed that,as a female poster on MN, she must 'work in a care home' while trying to suggest she was maybe a bit inexperienced!).

My friend who works with cancer patients in the NHS has just been pinged by the app. She does not get routine testing. lateral flow or otherwise. She just has to SI. I genuinely feel more frontline than her!!

I think you mean my reply there. I wasn’t trying to insinuate anything, just wondering which jobs were doing regular testing and I wrongly assumed that as care homes had been been treated so badly, I wouldn’t put it past the government to decide that a crappy video would suffice as ‘training’. I had hoped, wrongly, as it seems, that hospital staff would have been given better training!

It wasn’t anything to do with me assuming she was low paid/worked in a care home/was inexperienced because she was female.

I never watched ER...

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 08:51

Ah, sorry! Didn't look at user name! Am so used to MNers trying to diminish people.

What she said was v interesting though!

Peace and Love...Flowers

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 08:52

Crappy video is definitely the training.

My aforementioned friend is not allowed to swab test as she is CV.

Achristmaspudsskidu · 16/12/2020 08:56

Flowers back at you as well.

The reply about hospitals was really interesting and the fact a hospital doctor sounded pretty appalled that these tests would replace self-isolation periods (as this isn’t the case in hospitals) was good to read.

It’ll still happen though, I’m sure!

I’m ready for strike action if it goes through, personally...!

The refrigeration issue is a Big Issue!

MrsHercYulePoirot · 16/12/2020 08:59

Did another postal test via Zoe app as sore throat last week, did it Sunday and got negative results today. So if I am super careful this week that might be slightly reassuring... maybe!

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 09:01

What I'd like is anti body tests so we can 'told you so' to all these parents who phone in saying 'it's NOT COVID' Xmas Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 16/12/2020 09:29

We have to provide our own masks. School gets round it by saying they can give us visors (literally a sheet of ohp film and a strap.

I'm off to google if we can get tax relief on ppe

TheHoneyBadger · 16/12/2020 09:37

Having gone further through it's not for things you choose to buy but aren't necessary. If masks are only a recommendation not a requirement I'm not sure if they'd accept them as work expenses.

The Thirty-Third Republic - End of term and DfE threats- cheers all!
MrsChristmasHamlet · 16/12/2020 09:41

You can't claim tax relief on things you also use elsewhere, sadly

TheHoneyBadger · 16/12/2020 09:44

But you can declare you don't wear them anywhere else eg online shopping etc.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 16/12/2020 10:05

True. Has everyone claimed for working from home for this year? And your union fees?

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 13:04

So now we are taking a pop at celebrities for taking Covid seriously?

I might invite Tom to my school for a bit of discipline!

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 16/12/2020 13:16

Masks are a requirement where I work, and I don't use the mask I use in work elsewhere (ie I use disposables and need two a day just for work). Would it be worth the hassle to claim I wonder?

Danglingmod · 16/12/2020 13:56

Just placemarking as I am so braindead I can't find threads unless they are in my "I'm on" list...

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/12/2020 14:01

I’m covid free. So I can go back to work now. How’s everyone else doing?

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 14:03

So many sick kids here today : coughing, sniffing, bunged up, tummy aches, headaches.

Some might have colds, I guess.

They should study my area : I reckon it may be the most test resistant area in the UK!

Oddly enough, pre covid our schools' attendance was scrutinised as Ofsted found we had a lot of casual and holiday absences: so lots of days off for this that the other (non essential appointments, day trips, birthdays etc). Covid has IMPROVED attendance at my school! Hmm

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/12/2020 14:06

Well it is your school piggy. Isn’t it usually the exception to any rule?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/12/2020 14:17

Seriously though I can’t believe that schools don’t need proof of a negative test result before letting sick kids in.

I mean I can believe it because DfE but it shouldn’t be the case. Othercountries are testing temps on the way into school, except the U.K. where it’s ‘snotty nose, hacking cough, come straight in’.

Runtowardsthemulledwine · 16/12/2020 14:21

I take a break from MN for a few days, and not only do you guys hide in the broom cupboard for a while but get 14 pages into the next thread Xmas Shock I will be back d'reckly when I'm caught up a bit...
