You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Just reading that the DFE are considering delaying the start of the Jan term. I can't get my bloody breath!

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 18:36

Wow... apparently in my county cases in U19s went up 336%.

Not in my school! Nothing to see here!!

The news also said all parents are being urged to sue home testing kits. Again, I ahve not heard this.

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 18:37

That's 336% IN A WEEK.

OnehorseopenBobsleigh · 16/12/2020 18:37

PumpkinPie2016 · 16/12/2020 18:39

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 18:39

Geoff is on now! Hi Geoff!!

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 18:40

Am actually so so pissed off. My local news says all kids, staff and someone else(families I think) can and should get home test. Neither my school nor DS's have communicated this to me.

I just came to post that.

@Piggyinblankets

That's 336% IN A WEEK.
Not caused by schools, no no no.

Cases in our area have nearly doubled in a week. When we went back to school, we were at 12 per 100,000. Now we're not far from 200 per 100,000. Wonder why...

Where are you seeing this?
Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 18:43

Gov is going to announce this TOMORROW?
When is our time to plan remote lessons??

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 16/12/2020 18:43

Do any of you have a classroom like the one pictured in that TES article?

FiggyPuddingFiend · 16/12/2020 18:45

How would delaying start of term work - we have students with actual exams the first week back (BTEC exams).

DecemberStar · 16/12/2020 18:45

About to read the article, but what would that mean for Y11s (eg my DD!) who start mocks on 5th Jan??

DecemberStar · 16/12/2020 18:46

It's a very short article! If it's just so that we can all be trained to swab students, not impressed (although it will help with infection rates of course).

TheHoneyBadger · 16/12/2020 18:48

No - two chairs at each of those desks and two rows of two desks pushed together against the walls with a small gap up the middle for getting to seats in some classrooms. Or two desks pushed together for the middle row and single desks against the walls with gaps between mid block and side rows for egress.

Just realised I basically work in the environment of a budget airline. No emergency exits though.

ChloeDeckTheHalls · 16/12/2020 18:49

Oh goodness grief, government! They are going to um and ah all holiday then announce Sunday 3rd Jan aren’t they!?

KnowingMeKnowingYule · 16/12/2020 18:49

I think I will cry with joy if there is a later start. Just had a little cry on DH about the stress and worry of it all. He has been amazing. I'm only part time so at least I have breathing space but he teaches so many year groups (well, all of them) I've been so worried. I really hope they give schools a bit of a circuit break in January to lower the numbers. Mocks can be moved a week later I guess, not so sure about the Btec situation though...

Sureitwillbegrand · 16/12/2020 18:49

Hope your all doing well, only 2 days left and getting tired now! Our head sent 3 yr groups home earlier this week so i am much happier in school this week.

Finally got my reply from my MP, this sentence was the only interesting bit

However, it is acknowledged that remote learning may become necessary again. As such schools have been required to prepare high quality remote education, so that children can continue to make progress even if they are not attending in person.

^That's my most common lay out. In science just three long lines of desks pushed together.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/12/2020 18:51

That's not what I drew! Sad

noelgiraffe · 16/12/2020 18:51

First week back in Jan before mocks is way more bloody educationally important than last week before Christmas.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/12/2020 18:52

I am negative Honey. The result I was given is my PCR result and not the LF result of a relative in the same hospital whose manager has my test result and absence paperwork. Nobody is admitting how it got mixed up.
