You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

There's chairs?Shock Our staffroom doesn't have many of those any more.

noblegiraffe · 07/12/2020 00:14

Does everyone know who Gavin is and it’s just me that doesn’t? Can someone PM me?

CountDuckulasKetchup · 07/12/2020 05:45

We still have chairs. Can't sit on them because of the hazmat tape though...

HerdyGerdy · 07/12/2020 05:58

No clue here.
MrsHerculePoirot · 07/12/2020 06:35

No clue here also 🤣

WhoisGavinanyway · 07/12/2020 06:58

Nope. No idea here either!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/12/2020 07:06

No clue here, but I never notice name changes.

V hard getting up this morning....

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 07/12/2020 07:07

@Timeturnerplease sorry to hear you are having such a tricky time.

Another bubble has just gone at our school in ks1. Really don't want to spend my holiday isolating again. Friends who wfh are talking about how they are going to pull their children out a week early.

eitak22 · 07/12/2020 07:21

@AFallingStar

Hi! I've been lurking for ages but thought I'd finally join in.

I'm primary in tier 2. We've somehow managed to only have one staff case (and that was non-teaching) so that's good (well, not for that member of staff, but they're ok now)... had various near misses though and all the secondaries near us have had lots of closures/year groups at home.

Attendance is also freakishly good. My class was 100% all of last week I think. I imagine they'll all be there all of the time till the bitter end. Unless they get sent home.

I have that class. Hardly off ever and doubt they'll be taken out a week early as they were the last class standing in March!
WhyNotMe40 · 07/12/2020 07:24

This going to sound really pathetic but I just don't feel able to get put of bed and go to work today

TheHoneyBadger · 07/12/2020 07:38

Know the feeling why. We can do it though.

Battling with ds who apparently couldn't sleep last night. Managed to get him in the shower but now he's gone to sleep on the sofa. Knew it'd be a battle after 2 weeks off.

I have a late start thankfully

HerdyGerdy · 07/12/2020 07:51

You’re not alone there Why. Nearly there tho - a week and a half for almost everyone bar me, sob sob
CallmeAngelina · 07/12/2020 07:53

Really sad about Aragon leaving. Or do I mean angry?

WhyNotMe40 · 07/12/2020 08:17

Both. That was bullying.

starrynight19 · 07/12/2020 08:25

Me to CallmeAngelina Sad

Mistressiggi · 07/12/2020 08:28

@marplemead I'm very sorry for your loss, and you are absolutely right to stay off to (begin to) heal. All the best.

I'm sitting at my desk but staring into space rather than getting on with stuff! Feeling poorly which never helps.

marplemead · 07/12/2020 08:39

Thank you @mistressiggi
I'm sorry for your losses too Flowers

Augustbreeze · 07/12/2020 09:03

Honey I completely know what you mean, my DS back after a fortnight too, massive anxiety this morning. He hates being late at the best of times, and the frost on car windows was virtually unscrapable this morning so we were really late. Hopefully they'll both be OK once they get with their friends.

Augustbreeze · 07/12/2020 09:07

Do you mean Aragon? What happened?

No I too have no idea who @IfoundGavin is but it's obviously someone who knows us well. (How to be even more anonymous than usual, it's quite a practical and philosophical chqllenge!)

Wondered if it was someone NCing back and forth. That or a fifth columnist from DfE / U4T.

Appuskidu · 07/12/2020 09:09

Oh no, what’s happened with Aragon?

Augustbreeze · 07/12/2020 09:20

Blooming autocorrect, I typed Aragog but then unthinkingly accepted Aragon!

From a thread on Essex, threatened to enter Tier 3 but apparently only because of hotspot Basildon:

The leader of Basildon Council is making quite a name for himself with his demands. He asked for the schools to close early, which was declined by the DfE but they have implemented a mass testing programme for Basildon secondary schools which started this weekend and they have widened the criteria for isolating bubbles, so if one child in a year group tests positive the whole year group will close and if a teacher works across bubbles (all of them?) all the bubbles will close, which must fairly quickly result in all schools being closed. Whether this helps or just sends them all out in to the community remains to be seen. 40% of cases in Basildon are apparently in schools, most schools are not seeing a lot of cases in teachers. There is one exception but the majority have had 2-3 cases in staff.

Appuskidu · 07/12/2020 09:32

I meant Aragog, too!

PumpkinPie2016 · 07/12/2020 12:20

@WhyNotMe40 it's hard but keep plodding on!

I watched Home Alone with DH last night so went to bed fairly late which resulted in me struggling to get up.

Got various parcels being delivered/to be collected this week-must not forget as they are DS Christmas presents!

Hairdressers tonight which I'm so looking forward to! Desperately needs cutting.

CallmeAngelina · 07/12/2020 12:51

Ooh, @PumpkinPie2016, that's a bit spooky!!
^We watched Home Alone last night too (as DD was horrified that dh and I had never seen it) and I'm having my hair cut and highlighted today!

I am definitely not a spy.
As any good spy would say.
