You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Perhaps we are seeing the consequences of many children being the centre of everyone's universe.

I had a very happy childhood, as a member of a large, warm and loving family, but I was never under any illusion that I was more important, or even on a par with anyone else, particularly the adults. Sorry to sound old-fashioned, but we knew our place.

CallmeAngelGabriel · 14/12/2020 18:00

I had a child last week who began the "that's not fair" routine. I fixed her with a steely glare and said, "Who's Queen?!"
She had the grace to back-track.

Piggywaspushed · 14/12/2020 18:02

Sorry honey for my crap typing!

I think we are all expecting a big reveal of infections data that proves us correct. I think it will be the same ONS data, just on its official release.

Piggywaspushed · 14/12/2020 18:02

You can see this children are the Gods viewpoint all over MN.

CallmeAngelGabriel · 14/12/2020 18:04

Yeah, there's lots of "they deserve," and "they're missing out and so forth.

Piggywaspushed · 14/12/2020 18:07

From another thread : a sobering read:

www.spiegel.de/international/world/new-on-the-covid-19-front-lines-children-may-be-driving-the-pandemic-after-all-a-95e4c0e7-2ea0-479b-ac27-d17f07d147a5

Useful one to bat off some deniers!

CallmeAngelGabriel · 14/12/2020 18:10

Oh fucking hell. Just had an email saying that for the Xmas Fayre (in our bubbles), can we "just" wrap 30 gifts before then?!

CallmeAngelGabriel · 14/12/2020 18:13

And here we are, nearly at the end of another thread!

MrsHamlet · 14/12/2020 18:17

@CallmeAngelGabriel

Oh fucking hell. Just had an email saying that for the Xmas Fayre (in our bubbles), can we "just" wrap 30 gifts before then?!
How about no?
noblegiraffe · 14/12/2020 18:18

Oh do you know what I saw today? An NHS mobile testing unit! A shiny white van.

I thought they were mythical creatures!

MrsHamlet · 14/12/2020 18:18

In fact who are these people who use "just" like that?! 😡

Mistressiggi · 14/12/2020 18:21

Was it pulling into your school, Noble?

Isthatitnow · 14/12/2020 18:22

Yeah, there's lots of "they deserve," and "they're missing out and so forth

And also a thread about taking children out of school because, you know, their family deserves to be kept safe. Fuck us, eh? It has really, really pissed me off. Why should we be busting a gut to support these children who's mental health is so at risk they all have to be in school all day, every day when absolutely no one gives two fucks about our mental health, let alone our physical health? They should be fining every parent who removes their child from school without evidence that they are genuinely ill.

I was on the edge as it was and this shite has tipped me right over. I am seriously contemplating my resignation now.

Rant over. Maybe.

noblegiraffe · 14/12/2020 18:24

Course not, Mistress, it was parked up on a side road not mobiley testing anyone.

Mistressiggi · 14/12/2020 18:27

Hijack it next time, you could drive it around all our schools Smile

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 14/12/2020 18:27

It's like 'just have a Christmas party' - I have NEVER done a Christmas party in my whole teaching career. Apparently this year they 'need' some Christmas cheer. Second to last afternoon before school ends, children lobbing food all over the hall. What about my Christmas cheer?

I like that the Gov have lost control on this. Fuck them too. Fuck everyone in fact, present company excepted.

CallmeAngelGabriel · 14/12/2020 18:27

"How about no?"

Well, I just had an expletive-filled WhatsApp rant to my team about it, and our lovely TAs piped up with, "Oh, we'll wrap them. We don't mind."

Feeling ashamed and humbled! Blush

DollyMixtureLulus · 14/12/2020 18:27

We are definitely seeing the impact of 'the poor wee souls have missed sooooo much, they deserve a wee treat".

There's quite a noticeable amount of parents doing them no favours either. I have a regular non attender whose mother complained that we hadn't waited for her to come in before we went for PE - it was 9.20 and she's absent two days out of 3!

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/12/2020 18:33

Anyone else thinking that this ‘variant’ is a red herring to take the focus off schools?!? Am I really cynical?

TheHoneyBadger · 14/12/2020 18:34

Thanks for explaining piggy. My brain is fuzzy today. Must be the lack of alcohol

Hercwasonaroll · 14/12/2020 18:38

Like the "can you just pop some work on teams" request!

Today was bad for low level behaviour. Attendance higher than I thought. Wonder if the London closures will spook some parents.

Sent my own child back to nursery despite not needing to. He needed it!!

CallmeAngelGabriel · 14/12/2020 18:39

@DollyMixtureLulus, We had a parent who, when we pointed out her child had missed a number of group intervention sessions through turning up late many mornings (for no good reason), complained that we should re-schedule the group until later in the day so he didn't miss out.

noblegiraffe · 14/12/2020 18:39

@Mistressiggi

Hijack it next time, you could drive it around all our schools Smile
ROAD TRIP!

At least you know I wouldn’t suppress the data.

CallmeAngelGabriel · 14/12/2020 18:41

And the one who complained I hadn't phoned her to bring her son's swimming kit in as he'd forgotten it. We were half way out the door when he told me he didn't have it, and to phone her would have meant leaving the class unattended, running to the office, finding her number, waiting for her to pick up, go home and get his kit, and then get to school.
She was FURIOUS with me! The Head demanded an apology from her.
