You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

We have a two year old DD who took us nearly six years to conceive, so it feels a bit self indulgent to take time off to process a miscarriage

It’s not remotely self indulgent. Miscarriage is a big deal, it takes time to process it. So lovely you can donate healthy embryos.

Augustbreeze · 06/12/2020 19:28

Don't involve me in rosy days piggy..... (I had to reread yr post, you know like when you think you hear someone say your name?)

Hope yr DH stays well. So he hasn't been told to SI (yet)?

Piggywaspushed · 06/12/2020 19:30

Ha , I thought of you when I posted!!

DG not had any instruction.

Piggywaspushed · 06/12/2020 19:38

DH...not DG!

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/12/2020 19:47

@monkeytennis97 best thing I’ve read for weeks 🎉

monkeytennis97 · 06/12/2020 19:55

@MrsHerculePoirot Thanks I showed DH all your messages earlier he said I was lucky to have such lovely teacher friends online. He is rightSmileSmile

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 06/12/2020 19:58

Lovely to hear your news @monkeytennis97
Good luck to you and your DH @Piggywaspushed

Happy Sunday everyone. I’ve spent most of the afternoon marking mocks.

So happy you got to see your boy Monkey. It must have felt so good.

Not looking forward to another week at work. We’ve been really lucky in the past couple of weeks with no cases, I’m sure we’re due one.

Loshad · 06/12/2020 20:28

We have had another whole spate over the weekend, and have closed half of another year group 😳

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/12/2020 20:41

I don't check emails over the weekend. Teacher who got closed down last Monday only got told at 7.20 - he was on his way to work. I'm his line manager and didn't get told until I got in at 7.30.

AllDoneIn · 06/12/2020 21:03

Checking in. Delighted you saw your son monkey.

AllDoneIn · 06/12/2020 21:04

Time look after yourself Flowers

starrynight19 · 06/12/2020 21:37

Timeturner you really do need to take time for you. Emotionally you must be rung out. Flowers

Piggy that must be such a worry for dh especially given his vulnerability.

I am so pissed off tonight. How many school staff need to get ill before it matters. Obviously recovering as my sense of fury is growing. Speaking to colleagues and they are all so worried about more cases and them having to bring this home to their family’s.

Oh and well done Chloe on the outing 👍

Timeturnerplease · 06/12/2020 21:41

Thanks all. DP has helpfully this evening decided to suggest that we have ‘one more try’ with two of the remaining embryos after this. I very firmly pointed out that discussions like this cannot take place until after we all somehow get through the next two weeks without being put into isolation again.

Best of luck everyone for next week. Hazmat suits at the ready!

How exciting.

Seriously take some time off to recover from your miscarriage. You really can’t afford to get Covid right now. Not that there’s a good time to get Covid

Good luck

WhenSheWasBad · 06/12/2020 22:08

Does anyone fancy taking bets on attendance figures for the last week of term.

My thought is only 2/3rds attendance. Loads won’t want to risk catching Covid / needing to isolate over Christmas.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/12/2020 22:13

We're already at 2/3s attendance. Hahaaaaa...

DreamingofBrie · 06/12/2020 22:28

TimeTurner, Flowers for you too. I hope that you're ok.

MsAwesomeDragon · 06/12/2020 22:30

timeturner do take time to process your miscarriage if you need it. I had a miscarriage back in 2012, and I fell apart completely. I took 2 weeks off work, but I wasn't ok for about a year after that. Mine wasn't even a baby we'd spent a long time trying for, but it broke me. I hope everything works out well for you this time, and I hope you manage to avoid isolation/covid for as long as you need to. Flowers

Mistressiggi · 06/12/2020 22:35

Timeturner I've had recurrent miscarriages so my heart goes out to you - I had time off after each one, different amounts, but it totally depends on you - I couldn't have trusted I wouldn't lose the plot with a kid or colleague in the early days. Flowers

AFallingStar · 06/12/2020 22:46

Hi! I've been lurking for ages but thought I'd finally join in.

I'm primary in tier 2. We've somehow managed to only have one staff case (and that was non-teaching) so that's good (well, not for that member of staff, but they're ok now)... had various near misses though and all the secondaries near us have had lots of closures/year groups at home.

Attendance is also freakishly good. My class was 100% all of last week I think. I imagine they'll all be there all of the time till the bitter end. Unless they get sent home.

Mistressiggi · 06/12/2020 23:06

Hi, Fallingstar, welcome Brew

CallmeAngelina · 06/12/2020 23:22

Hey, FallingStar, pull up a chair. There might be some gin left somewhere...

marplemead · 06/12/2020 23:32

Timeturner I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers As others have already said, do take time off work if you need it. I'm currently going through my third miscarriage, and have no plans to return until I'm ready. I had two weeks off for my first and didn't take any time off for my second, and, looking back, I really needed it. My GP has been lovely, and pointed at that any time off is a relatively short time in the grand scheme of my teaching career.
