You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

It's like 'whack-a-mole' on here with fuckwits at the moment.

Frlrlrubert · 26/08/2020 00:50

@echt

I am particularly enjoying the thread about why can't, oh, anybody just re-train as a teacher and work in defunct Toys"R"Us shops.
That thread is so much fun. I think we've cracked it now, we've got a primary teacher to train a flight attendant and a soft-play worker. Kids will be part time til Xmas so we can sort toys r us out and train up the teachers. Then the primary teacher gets paid more and is in charge and they all teach a class of 10.

Now that’s a Plan B to be proud of

noblegiraffe · 26/08/2020 01:08

Bonus thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4005977-Boris-hands-major-public-safety-decision-to-people-unqualified-to-take-it

I feel so sorry for Heads right now. They really haven’t had a break.

Augustbreeze · 26/08/2020 01:12

@noblegiraffe absolutely. And yet they've got to be bright and all "Isn't it wonderful to be back, I trust you (kids and/or staff) have had a lovely break!" In about a week....

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/08/2020 04:24

Have we had this about masks in S Korea? Ignore how many other people got ill, that was the air conditioning, and I assume most UK secondaries don’t have air conditioning in their classrooms!

But this would add to the Swiss story from a while back where those wearing masks weren’t affected. Might suggest that even if schools don’t make pupils wear masks there could be some protection where schools are allowing teachers to.

CountDuckulasKetchup · 26/08/2020 06:37

Can whoever posted a link several hundred threads ago to some stylus pad thing on amazon repost it please? Thinking of getting one as I think several of our kids will be off and submitting work electronically, but as ever there's too much choice at amazon and it's making my head hurt.

motherrunner · 26/08/2020 06:45

@CountDuckulasKetchup Thanks for asking this - I wouldn’t mind getting it too.

minisoksmakehardwork · 26/08/2020 07:00

Oops thought I'd replied to you @noblegiraffe at silly o clock when the wind was keeping me awake. U4T are seeking legal advice as to whether masks should be worn in schools. Ffs. They are apoplectic about this announcement.

RobertsUncle · 26/08/2020 07:19

They are apoplectic about this announcement
Good! Let them waste their energy on that for now!

Nellodee · 26/08/2020 07:22

It might have been me who mentioned the stylus pad. I'm taking my daughter's in to school with me today and just checking how simple it is to plug and play and checking it gets on with the smart board software we have. I'll report back later.

AngelaScandal · 26/08/2020 07:22

(Non U.K. based) teacher here. The contrast between what you guys are having to put up with and the (fairly basic) measures we have here in frightening. One can only assume they’ve found a massive hole in the teacher pension fund or something.
Them4Us? What are they, incels for teachers???

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2020 07:29

Morning!

I must say if I was a head I 'd just walk out now.

The journalist were briefed about the u turn (or there was a leak) but several Tory MPs kicked up a stink and so they received a briefing document with a different announcement. Ridiculous.

That Tory MPS tweeting about back to normal, scientific illiteracy, and scaremongering and that Katharine Birbalsingh should dictate policy is beyond belief.

I thought the government were beginning to accept older children are different (most of the public are) but it seems not. What are they so afraid of??

Just as well Toby Young isn't a headteacher any more (or whatever he was...) . Can you imagine how he'd treat concerned staff, children and parents. or any outbreak?

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2020 07:33

That's a very good description bosco.

Not sure about the namechanger mentioned. Am researching...

Hercwasonaroll · 26/08/2020 07:42

Gav on TV again, I can't stomach watching it. Are they still pouring over the ofqual mess or it is masks masks masks?

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2020 07:43

What changed the government's decision was that one of the lazy fuckers actually read the WHO report that says 'in areas of high transmission', at which point Gove said' well, sorted. Because the UK has a climbing infection rate which is third highest in Europe only has high transmission oop North where the working class live (smirk and guffaw) so we don't need the children and the Blob in masks. It's not real anyway. And teachers don't get it from kids. Some guy called Mark said so.'

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2020 07:45

Think I missed the mask bit.

Now whining about Ofqual.

Same answers as last week.

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2020 07:49

Plus Birbalsingh was on R4 but kept going on about masks in the classroom. Since no one misbehaves in her corridors ,I don't suppose she feels she needs masks.

Ickabog · 26/08/2020 07:51

@Hercwasonaroll

Gav on TV again, I can't stomach watching it. Are they still pouring over the ofqual mess or it is masks masks masks?
It's put me right off my breakfast. [vom]
Saucery · 26/08/2020 07:54

Nobody misbehaves in my local farm shop either, but we all still need a mask Confused. Including the children I’ve seen in there. One did a massive sneeze the other week - he half turned and sneezed into his elbow as he should do, but if he hadn’t been wearing a mask a wide variety of produce would have had Sneeze all over it. As will I, in the classroom 🤦‍♀️

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2020 07:55

Here is the actual guidance which mentions 'small bubbles'. Has any head told them their boobles are 500??

HedyPrism · 26/08/2020 08:12

That ToysRUs thread is hilarious. I must thank @noblegiraffe though: I found your assertion that all new teachers are a bit shit strangely reassuring Flowers

monkeytennis97 · 26/08/2020 08:19

Bbc again with misleading photo of masked child in SD classroom.

CallmeAngelina · 26/08/2020 08:22

Don't waste your time researching that one, @Piggy. She's been deleted as a returning troll, apparently.

DreamingofBrie · 26/08/2020 08:24

@CountDuckulasKetchup @motherrunner, here's the link to the stylus and pad I bought:

www.amazon.co.uk/XP-Pen-Professional-Graphic-Drawing-Shortcut/dp/B077W5SZD3/ref=sr_1_1?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

It served me well all through last term, although my electronic writing was rather abysmal.

We are preparing for remote learning by setting all teaching groups up on Teams. I'm teaching KS3 in the same room, but will be running all over the school to teach 6th form. Morning break cancelled to allow for longer transition time between classes. I'm starting to get a bit anxious about it all.
