You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

Nope, It's going to be like that Nando's thing, isn't it?

WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 12:35

What nandos thing?

motherrunner · 29/08/2020 12:37

That scale thing they used to refer to about opening up society right at the start of lockdown.

WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 12:41

I'd completely forgotten about that! Grin

It got dropped very quickly

motherrunner · 29/08/2020 12:43

Like many things!

WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 12:44

Fuckwits

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2020 12:48

The guidance does suggest older children can socially distance.

Out of interest, does anyone in a secondary setting have anything about students social distancing in their school risk assessment?

Iamnotthe1 · 29/08/2020 12:54

They can't put actual numbers on anything. If they did, they'd have to implement the measures they are talking about. It's in the same way that the opening of society wasn't supposed to happen until the 'R' was much lower on the graph instead of it being higher than it was when the Nandos system was introduced.

MrsHamlet · 29/08/2020 13:02

mother and staff both posted about their INSET arrangements just after I sent ours out!

Yes, ours is chock full of “encouraging” social distancing “where possible”.

We all know it’s not possible and I reckon everyone will give up even trying by day 2.

WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 13:09

Could we personally be held responsible for students catching the virus if we don't enforce distancing? Or get too close?

MrsHamlet · 29/08/2020 13:10

That's something I really don't want to think about.
WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 13:12

I'm sorry. My anxiety is getting the better of me today

WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 13:13

Maybe I'm just not cut out for teaching in a pandemic. I'm probably a crap teacher at the best of times anyway

WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 13:14

I haven't self harmed in a decade, but the urge to cut again is getting very strong

MrsHamlet · 29/08/2020 13:18

You know that's just the voice of panic talking don't you. You're not alone in any of this. I don't know you from Adam but the fact that you care enough to worry tells me that the chances of you being a crap teacher are vanishingly small
Iamnotthe1 · 29/08/2020 13:18

@WhyNotMe40

That would depend on what your school policy says and whether any liability could be assigned for something like virus transmission during a pandemic.

If it says that distancing is 'where possible' then it's your duty to think about whether it is possible or not and try to make it possible but ultimately, not your position to enforce it. If something happens, you followed policy and did what your employer said. If liability was to be found, it would likely fall on them.

If it says it's a must and something you have to enforce then you would have that duty. If you choose not to enforce it, you're in violation of the policy and didn't following your employer's instructions. If liability was to be found, it could fall on you.

That's why it's essential to read all policies properly and raise objections if you see something that isn't possible.

noblegiraffe · 29/08/2020 13:20

Why please log off and do something nice out in the fresh air (if it's not raining where you are!)

MN isn't the place to be if you are feeling like that I'm afraid. Flowers

WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 13:22

Thanks all.
Yes, I'll go and take the kids out for a bike ride, while DH finds some "essential" work to do in the garage

Iamnotthe1 · 29/08/2020 13:22

I agree with MrsHam

You don't need to shoulder all of the responsibility. That's the whole reason why there are more senior members of staff.

NeurotrashWarrior · 29/08/2020 13:24

Why, please look after yourself. I know mn can help vent sometimes but it's a double edged sword.

The weather is rubbish here but maybe a nice walk with a cup of cocoa and line up some good films for tonight?

motherrunner · 29/08/2020 13:24

@WhyNotMe40 Be kind to yourself 💐

NeurotrashWarrior · 29/08/2020 13:25

Cross post, have fun ThanksCake

motherrunner · 29/08/2020 13:26

I’m off for a long walk with the kids - the sun is shining and I am going to make the most of it!

TheHoneyBadger · 29/08/2020 13:26

Whynot the curse of being a good teacher is feeling like a shit teacher! Shit teachers probably think they’re great. It’s a bit like how it’s never the narcissist who presents for therapy.

You’re absolutely not alone in this and I’m more than happy to have a phone/messenger/pick your format buddy for getting through the next term if you want one.

We should probably all set up a WhatsApp or messenger group or have a sodding zoom drinks meeting. This is definitely more supportive and helpful than any ‘real’ staffroom I’ve ever had.
