You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

I actually can't take much more of this shit.
Wondering if someone can clarify wtf is now going on as having a 'discussion' on Facebook.

If a kid has to isolate as they have been sitting near someone who has been tested positive, do their siblings in other year groups and their family also have to isolate?
Thanks

Appuskidu · 29/08/2020 11:07

heck with all schools going back I expect it will get much worse.

Agreed. There is already a poster complaining that she’s just found out that her year 4 child won’t get to play with anyone from another class at playtime!!

No, like with everyone else in society, it's only the person who has had contact with the positive case who needs to isolate. However, if they then show symptoms and get a positive result, their family would then need to isolate too.

Interesting that on the "shocked about last-minute guidance thread" a number of parents are finally twigging what a shit-show this is all going to be.
As if we haven't been telling them so all summer!

Which thread is that?
RigaBalsam · 29/08/2020 11:28

@noblegiraffe

I couldn't see it in active?
It was in Active on my app. Can't see it now.

We have been telling them for ages not to blame but to blame the DfE. They are the ones who keep issuing guidance updates late Friday afternoon

@WhenSheWasBad

Coronavirus: Secondary schools to move to rota system if virus cases rise

This is my nightmare. Really not sure how I’m going to find the time to teach the kids 15 in front of me and find time to teach online to the other 15.
Oh fuck.

That is what we are planning - got a head ache already

First @MNHQ allow us to nest these quotes otherwise what is the point.

And on topic, it may well be that we end up with morning and afternoon rotas with one being a copy of the other.

But if that were the case it would probably mean losing some lessons.

noblegiraffe · 29/08/2020 11:38

No, it won’t be am pm rotas, the guidance specifies at least a week off between rota sessions to allow symptoms to develop.

NeurotrashWarrior · 29/08/2020 11:50

I think it's two weeks?

I think it’s two weeks in weeks off. Fuck fuck fuck.

There’s no way I can do this. I’m an NQT. Don’t know what I’m doing already. Absolutely no chance I can effectively teach double the lessons.

Kidneybingo · 29/08/2020 12:00

@Piggywaspushed

A lovely poster starts a thread in support of us and what happens? Pile on.

So many bastards on MN.

I'm trying to treat it as a positive. Every time I feel myself slipping and going to spend my own money, or unpaid time, I think of these people and stop myself.
WhenSheWasBad · 29/08/2020 12:04

At my school there’s 6 science teachers, I think I would have planned

Year 7 - taught by teacher A
Year 8 - taught by teacher B (maybe an extra year 10 lesson)
Year 9 - taught by teacher C (maybe an extra year 11 lesson)

Years 10 & 11
Biology - taught by teacher D
Chemistry - taught by teacher E
Physics - taught by teacher F

It’s not ideal and would be a complete shit show in a normal year. But with bubbles and the possibility of rota learning it might be best option

Kidneybingo · 29/08/2020 12:06

I do wish there was a way of stopping any teacher replying to them to be honest. Just let them chunter away to themselves. I mean I feel I know the type from when my children were in primary school, and you aren't going to change their mind. That would require empathy for a start and the ability to look beyond your own eyelashes.

Crumbs that must be one of the 'I want everything to be back to normal' brigade

We tried that in the days of the first republic.

That guidance @Appuskidu screenshot(?-ted??) is good though, and hopefully schools would be backed up / prompted perhaps by local health authority advice?

Would be a heck of a lot smoother though if we could just require proof.

MrsHamlet · 29/08/2020 12:13

I've just been chatting to my line manager who is DHT. If she makes it through next week without losing her shit, I'll be impressed. They'd just got plans agreed and then all change again.

we are all logging into Teams from our tutor rooms/classrooms

Just seen which poster made the remark - she's been bashing us on here for a while now, so not at all surprised.

DollyMixtureLulus · 29/08/2020 12:25

What’s the tipping point for blended/ rota’ed education? Is that laid out anywhere?
