You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs
Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

I have scrutinised our risk assessment. I still think the scout one is slightly better in terms of social distancing but there is a point in my school one about staff wearing a visor if they wish, so it's a small conscession but it is there nonetheless. Distancing is 2 metres but 1 metre if 2 is not possible. I suspect that is in to ensure the queue for those dining in the canteen area does not meet the queue for those dining in atrium.

@NeurotrashWarrior

Might start a thread asking for gentlest face soap options that actually kill the virus to prove a point...
I use Simple soap on my face and I have the skin sensitivity of a Fairytale Princess Grin
HipTightOnions · 22/08/2020 11:07

Our RA for September is a litany of nonsense. I have commented at length but apparently hardly anyone has responded.

My HoD has only just realised kids won’t be socially-distancing in classrooms.

I think my colleagues are in for a shock.

AugustBreeze · 22/08/2020 11:08

@noblegiraffe thank you for that article, the quotes you give made me laugh a lot!!!

Saucery · 22/08/2020 11:15

Our RA recommends we don’t eat out from local cafes. Can’t work out if they are saying we would be a danger to the wider community by leaving school and going to Costa or that Costa (other eateries are available) would be a danger to us Hmm
Not in the spirit of ‘Eat Out To Help Out’ really, is it?

hedgehogger1 · 22/08/2020 11:33

Just called up as the Zoe app told me to do a test at the start of this week (headache) and I've still not had the result. They said loads of people have been calling last couple of days, they think the testing side can't keep up with demand

hedgehogger1 · 22/08/2020 11:34

Oh and a letter has been sent out to staff and sixth formers saying people can't leave the site to pop to the co-op over the road. There goes 99% of its term time trade!

MrsHamlet · 22/08/2020 11:37

Whereas we're closing the common room and the sixth form work area and forcing them off site when they're free.

hedgehogger1 · 22/08/2020 11:40

Ah our year 13s are only on site when they have lessons but are also not meant to be going to the shop!

TheHoneyBadger · 22/08/2020 11:44

We gave out btec results with a letter explaining they may change but could only go up. Head decided it wasn’t fair for them to have nothing.

Sorry Jenny about your mum. Worrying time.

Still no RA for our school and still no timetable or info on what these staggered breaks will look like.

phlebasconsidered · 22/08/2020 11:45

We are not allowed in the staff room and we're eating in our classrooms with the kids anyway. At least i'll lose my lockdown weight as watching 32 year 6's eat is pretty gross and puts you off your food anyway.

I might buy a thermos as I won't be able to microwave anything or keep it cool.

HipTightOnions · 22/08/2020 11:46

Ours doesn’t specifically mention 6th form at all - no idea where they’re meant to go.

HipTightOnions · 22/08/2020 11:49

We will have limited numbers in the staff room - but we don’t know who, or where the others will go. We don’t have our own classrooms.

AugustBreeze · 22/08/2020 11:56

@TheHoneyBadger can't believe you haven't even seen a RA yet, that's awful....

Very this! The number of times through June and July that I had to tell the kids to chew with their mouths closed Envy (not envy).

I agree but with the constant changing advice I guess they could’ve ended up doing 3 only to keep scrapping them and starting again. Apparently a form is coming out soon for those of us with underlying conditions and extra risk factors. It’s all very last minute given we’re back on the 1st.

Trying to be zen but some days it’s impossible. Usually the days I wake up in a cold sweat from a school related nightmare

TheHoneyBadger · 22/08/2020 12:11

My hopes are now very modest. I hope to log into pension and find my service is recorded properly. I hope to turn on the computer and see a timetable one day.

In my wild dreams I hope that timetable will resemble what we agreed to and doesn’t make me cry.

I think 2020 could be, “the year of lowered expectations”.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/08/2020 12:16

when I still think you should email the HT and say that sadly you will have to not take the job and defer your nqt year if they can’t provide you with the requirements for an nqt year especially given you didn’t get to complete your training.

They need you way more than you need them and one call to an agency is likely all it would take to find another science job.

Don’t be fooled by the leafy business btw. Mine is very leafy suburb looking but behaviour and social ills don’t match the image

We are allowed three in the staffroom. We have been told to just find somewhere. Can see us all sitting in the car park.
DollyMixtureLulus · 22/08/2020 12:25

It’s crap because inevitably cliques develop. I walked past 3 members of staff having lunch together in one room with the door shut amd honestly felt 14 again.

If I had the money honey (that rhymes, at least I still have my sense of humour) I would do that.
They’ve got me over a barrel. If I complain they will possible give me extra time, but they could make my NQT year hell. If I put up and shut up I’m working an insane timetable for an NQT and could potentially risk my mental health and my NQT year.

Bastards (I’ve been muttering that a lot under my breath lately).

I still live in hope the induction tutor will (do his job) review the NQT guidelines and step in.

I'll probably eat in either the classroom I taught in before lunch or the classroom I will be teaching in after lunch. I'm keeping all my possessions on me all day so that will be easiest
GuyFawkesDay · 22/08/2020 12:51

I fully intend eating in the car. With the door locked. We can have 6bin the staffroom and 2 in the women's loos. There's a queue at break anyway in normal terms!

Haven't heard back about my mad timetable. I'll contact my union next week.

HipTightOnions · 22/08/2020 13:01

Yes that makes sense. Lonely though!

Danglingmod · 22/08/2020 13:19

Don't think I'll be eating in the car. It's a five minute walk away and lunch is only thirty minutes long.
