You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs
Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

@Lidlfix

I volunteered as tribute a few threads back. Well first week done and I now have a gin in one hand and a test in the post. A potential bodily fluids incident with a pupil (I am fucking raging and SLT better throw everything at them) has led to me now needing a test. No idea whether to go to school on Monday pending carrying out my test and the result. Grim.
I'm running behind on the thread but I'm.absolutely appalled to hear this. I'm so sorry this happened to you.
MsAwesomeDragon · 21/08/2020 21:09

Just checking in so I don't lose you all.

I'm currently sticking my head in the sand, and ignoring all my worries about going back to school. I've spent my day painting. I've done some lovely geometric patterns constructed accurately and painted them with watercolours. I'm currently knitting. No thoughts of school are allowed into my last couple of weeks of holiday.

RigaBalsam · 21/08/2020 21:14

WHO: Children over 12 should wear face masks
The World Health Organization has recommended that children over 12 should wear masks in the same contexts as adults in the bid to rein in the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lidl that is really shocking. Hope it's dealt with properly.

I do sweary cross stitch. I'm just finishing my own design Grin
AugustBreeze · 21/08/2020 21:16

But that wording's worse than useless to us as the adults in school aren't being told to wear masks 🤷🏻‍♀️....

I would wait for the test results just to big up the seriousness of the situation in the light of a pandemic. SLT have to step up to the mark - if that means a suspension for Fred well that's tough

But I am a fighter ....

I'm not patient enough for cross stitch any more, but I do love a sweary cross stitch. I normally crochet, but have branched out over lockdown. I've had a go at origami, painting, beading, decoupage, diamond painting, and now I've taught myself to knit via YouTube. My knitting now has straight edges rather than wonky edges, so a huge improvement over a few weeks ago.

AugustBreeze · 21/08/2020 21:26

Surely your school's risk assessment tells anyone awaiting a test to isolate,@Lidlfix?

MsAwesomeDragon · 21/08/2020 21:27

Lidl I hope they throw the book at your bodily fluid child. I assume this was an intentional incident Envy I would probably stay off until you get your test results back, as a matter of principle.

AugustBreeze · 21/08/2020 21:34

Looked at the WHO guidance (thanks piggy), and it says this:

" Should teachers or other adults working with children wear a mask?

In areas where there is widespread transmission, all adults under the age of 60 and who are in general good health should wear fabric masks when they cannot guarantee at least a 1-metre distance from others. This is particularly important for adults working with children who may have close contact with children and one another.
Adults aged 60 or over, or who have any underlying health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes or lung cancer, should wear a medical mask because of their higher risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19. "

Off to look for definition of widespread transmission.....

Thanks staff . Thread 17 - sounds like a tribute band that plays Shed Seven and Heaven 17 stuff!
That's appalling, Lidl I hope you are ok.
Well done all the thread babies on their GCSE results.
So sorry to all those feeling stressed or anxious about going back. I still don't have a timetable so I don't think they deserve any headspace. Plus my mum has been admitted to hospital and they have found a tumour on her lung and liver. I have to book an appointment to go and see her and they only allow one person per day. 😥 Large gin here too.

AugustBreeze · 21/08/2020 22:11

Seen on the Head recommends masks thread, what's being done is some US schools:

The silence on BTEC is deafening. I strongly suspect that this is because a) the government think BTEC is for thickies and B) They don't know what one is and C) they think people won't kick up a fuss because you know, it's just common kids that take them and D) they've got that T level thing now so it suits them.
And consolations Jenny, hope your mum is ok.

noblegiraffe · 22/08/2020 00:10

I've done some lovely geometric patterns constructed accurately and painted them with watercolours.

Do you follow Clarissa Grandi on twitter? She does amazing stuff like that.

Sorry to hear about your mum, jenny, hoping for positive news.

SaltyAndFresh · 22/08/2020 00:13

God, I really feel for anyone who has an ill family member in amongst all this. Please try to see it objectively and cut yourself the slack you would in non-covid times @tadjennyp (my DM had kidney cancer and I can't imagine having to deal with both at the same time).

BelleSausage · 22/08/2020 07:26

Sorry to hear your mum is ill @tadjennyp

We are doing a real time experiment at the moment to see if a child is a vector in a home. Dd came down with a cough and a fever yesterday. Cue mad scramble yesterday afternoon to the drive in test centre.

Let me tell you that having to perform a throat swab on my four year old in a windy car park was not the highlight of my week!

Now locked indoors awaiting results!

Danglingmod · 22/08/2020 07:52

Thing with the BTecs: the level 3ers (18 yr olds) got theirs bit now they might go up, but they've got to wait 15 days from initial results day to find out = potential lost Uni places... The level 1 and 2ers (16 yr olds) didn't even get given their initial results to know what ball park they're in, to know whether they've met sixth form or college place requirements, and will have to wait 8 days to find out... It's a scandal.

tadjennyp · 22/08/2020 08:05

Thanks all. I really appreciate the support.
That sounds hideous, @BelleSausage , I hope it's negative.
The BTec is a scandal. One more way in which the kids have been let down. Angry

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/08/2020 08:18

Sorry Lidl I hadn't realised it was deliberate. I'm so used to dribble, vomit, and worse without intent. That's horrendous. Definitely stay off till it's back. Don't you have to self isolate for 10 days too?

We've been told to have face washing stuff in school in case of accidental face body fluids. Which reminds me to put together a pack of moisturiser etc. I very much doubt we will be told to test. Staff wouldn't be in ever Sad

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum Jenny, sending un mumsnetty hugs Thanks

Fingers crossed Belle that it's just a random infection. If it is coronavirus and you all catch it I'd expected to see you on national tv telling Gav that small children are infectious! (Given you're all well enough of course.)

This is precisely the basic issue I've been saying on those school threads that will impact schools. Having to self Isolate, getting tests etc, staff absences, without even considering longer term absences or worse. Angry

I've been panic tidying piles that have accrued since my youngest was born (he's two Blush) so that life is easier this winter, and I can actually do relaxing things like painting and sewing if we have to hide away.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/08/2020 08:19

Might start a thread asking for gentlest face soap options that actually kill the virus to prove a point...
