You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs
Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

I've just found an email from March 6th which talks about "the extremely unlikely event of closure"! And also this - it's the penultimate bulletin point that implies that we should have been working to the trend. But doesn't say so explicitly.

To continue my conspiracy theory: I wonder if the radio silence from the unions is because they don't want to be manipulated so have withdrawn to force the government to act when it eventually inevitably goes tits up?

I hope this is right. The union leaders seem far more intelligent and capable in their plans than anyone currently in the cabinet.
WhyNotMe40 · 23/08/2020 12:09

I'm finding the way this government works more and more sinister. Giving untendered-for contracts to mates. Social media and influencer campaigns. Scapegoating. Dominic Cummings.
To be honest, your average young entrepreneur group would do a better job and inspire more confidence.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/08/2020 12:21

Yep. I th Schools sucking it up and preparing to open (whilst fully expecting it to go tits up rapidly) has probably terrified them Grin

Now people will get to actually see what their guidelines look like in reality.

Can’t wait to see the kids photos and live streams popping up everywhere! That crowded corridor shot from Georgia was nothing

Appuskidu · 23/08/2020 12:21

They are really going for this-I get the gov updates emailed to me and have had two in the last hour!

www.gov.uk/government/news/study-finds-very-low-numbers-of-covid-19-outbreaks-in-schools?utm_source=01ce0967-35e6-401b-92c7-8d5c486b1fe3&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=govuk-notifications&utm_content=immediate

The fact that there weren’t many cases in schools in June suggests that low numbers and social distancing works, not that schools are safe!

I really hope kids do this and put photos on social media to show the reality.

Would secondary heads tell students not to do this?

TheHoneyBadger · 23/08/2020 12:25

I’m already thinking of subtle non accountable ways of encouraging it. I’m a bad teacher which in my opinion is a good teacher.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/08/2020 12:27

Or maybe an anonymous fb page and YouTube channel could pop up where kids compete to see who has the most crowded classroom or something 🤔

WhyNotMe40 · 23/08/2020 12:28

I found this interesting. Can't say there has been no case of student to staff transmission now....

Would secondary heads tell students not to do this?

If I were a head, my first address this term would be all about not showing us up on social media.....in the hope I was putting ideas in their heads!

Same here, and I suspect quite a few heads will be thinking the same thing.

I have reported the alleged teacher who says unions are stopping schools opening as misinformation

Piggywaspushed · 23/08/2020 12:44

Not sure if this has made it to this thread:

www.gov.uk/government/news/statement-from-the-uk-chief-medical-officers-on-schools-and-childcare-reopening

I don't find it reassuring!

TheHoneyBadger · 23/08/2020 12:49

A subversive head? Imagine how long you’d have to be undercover to be promoted all the way to HT as a subversive? Can’t be many about.

Our students are banned from having phones out so it won't be us doing the awareness raising, sadly.

Ours are too but for the first time I would gladly turn a blind eye.

England's schools had 67 Covid-19 cases in June, PHE report finds
A total of 67 coronavirus cases and 30 outbreaks were detected in schools across England in June, according to Public Health England.
The health agency on Sunday released the findings of a study into levels of coronavirus transmission in educational settings following their reopening on June 1.
It found that Covid-19 infections and outbreaks were “uncommon”. In June, the number of children attending any educational setting increased from 475,000 to more than 1.6 million.
The report adds that there is a strong correlation between the regional incidence of Covid-19 and the number of outbreaks in educational settings, which “emphasises the importance of controlling community transmission”.
The 67 cases occurred mainly in primary school and early years settings and were made up of 30 students and 37 staff.
No children were admitted to hospital, but one teacher was hospitalised and was admitted to intensive care for respiratory support.

So did I.
RigaBalsam · 23/08/2020 12:56

Also a bit late but Piggy we had ours moderated down as did my OH school so I haven't heard of any either.

motherrunner · 23/08/2020 12:57

Look who popped up today:

“ lifeafter50

In the guidance for my school, masks are permitted for those who are paranoid and illogical but certainly not encouraged.”

I think it’s really important that people see what schools look like when we go back. The media mustn’t be allowed to show photos of 6 socially distances chosen to a class.
WhyNotMe40 · 23/08/2020 12:59

Gosh that poster really is poisonous

noblegiraffe · 23/08/2020 13:01

They called me 'Noble' Hmm Giraffe

I may never recover.
