You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Have you seen there's now guidance for when teachers etc die of Covid? www.gov.uk/guidance/steps-to-take-following-the-death-of-a-colleague-in-childrens-services?fbclid=IwAR0MRYw419ItndEVsuxNm06ZHIuKHoig7Uu0h2adqkhACmjrEtD9fXv7W-U

Saucery · 29/07/2020 21:18

Fucking cold.

Piggywaspushed · 29/07/2020 21:18

Wow, that's scary.

Interesting that it could be seen as a H and S breach. Even though there are plainly no H and S measures for us!

hedgehogger1 · 29/07/2020 21:22

nope, would prob be our own fault as we were clearly less than 2m from someone!

Piggywaspushed · 29/07/2020 21:34

It is a scary thought for heads though that they could be held responsible. My head needs to see this for a bit of a wake up call.

ohthegoats · 29/07/2020 21:39

I'm done with that other thread.

Did you know that applications for teacher training are up 7% on normal this year.

What's that about then? Security?

mumsneedwine · 29/07/2020 21:42

@ohthegoats me too. I got angry with the rubbish being spoken. Wine poured now so all good

motherrunner · 29/07/2020 21:43

That and the fact that people have been ‘home schooling me for the last 4 months and think it’s easy.

motherrunner · 29/07/2020 21:44

‘home schooling’

Not homeschooling me. They wouldn’t want to homeschool me 😆

Hercwasonaroll · 29/07/2020 21:48

What's that about then? Security?

Any job is better than no job. Lots of grad schemes aren't recruiting. Businesses closing left right and centre. I'm more surprised its so low. Plenty of people will think it's worth giving it a go as a short term guaranteed money plan. Likely to be young and not in risky covid groups.

(Cynic in me says some will leave after 2-3 years, become edu consultants/"curriculum designers" and we'll never see them again).

TheHoneyBadger · 29/07/2020 21:51

That’s guidance for teacher deaths and the total not giving a shit about deaths of teachers has made me feel sick and sucker punched. I’m a total single parent. Ds’s father has never, through choice, met him. My parents are in their mid 70’s and my dad has copd and cancer.

I earn 14k a year for my part time role and have been treated pretty awfully for the last couple of years and dealt with all the mental health and exhaustion impact of that. And people think we’re shit and disposable and have no idea of the mental and emotional load of being a good teacher.

Seems like I knew all of that obviously but I suddenly felt it and saw all of it clearly at once. Just a horrible sinking sensation and knowing people just don’t give a shit. Hit me.

Time to log off probably. I can’t believe how heartless people are. Or that they don’t feel ashamed to say their desire for full time childcare with no precautions trumps school staff safety. Just a bit blown away currently.

When you step back for a moment like that you think why the fuck do we do this if all of our care and energy and trying to hold everything together no matter how much the odds get stacked against us and a viable system counts for nothing.

Piggywaspushed · 29/07/2020 21:51

Perhaps it was all a plan after all? Cummings and Gove cooked up corona to solve the recruitment crisis.

MrsHerculePoirot · 29/07/2020 21:52

Security but also people think it’s easy. They’ve watch an oak academy video and know it all 😂

Maybe it will boost teacher numbers finally? Who knows! How are they going to train? Are we allowed extra people in a classroom?

Hercwasonaroll · 29/07/2020 21:55

Oh yes to people thinking it's easy
How will training work? Are they allowed in your classroom?!
Does 7% apply for all subjects? How does that compare to vacancies and teachers leaving?

JulyBreeze · 29/07/2020 21:57

Don't teacher training applications always rise in times of economic downturn?

Wow, that guidance on if a colleagues dies of Covid..... disturbing.

Trying to contextualise it in the hope of feeling calmer: anyone know an H&S type who'd be able to tell us a) if this sort of guidance exists for other causes of death and b) whether same is being issued for other occupational groups?

Hercwasonaroll · 29/07/2020 22:00

Don't teacher training applications always rise in times of economic downturn?

Vague recollections of 2009-10 being boom recruitment years which would fit this theory.

Piggywaspushed · 29/07/2020 22:08

I genuinely don't think they think it's easy. they think it is fulfilling and are searching for affirmation of their value, I think, maybe after years of unpaid thankless childcare or years in fairly mundane or materialistic jobs.

What they don't understand before they try it is the politics , and the crowd control. And a lack of respect for women.

Hercwasonaroll · 29/07/2020 22:16

The privately educated or leafy background ones think it's easy. Usually the younger ones. The more mature trainees are looking for fulfillment they rarely find. We have had one trainee over 25 in the past 5 years!

Daffodil Thank you. Someone, who I didn’t recognise, replied to the poster demanding the exact odds of my son being orphaned with (paraphrasing), sadly higher than you being slapped round the face with a 3 day old dead fish. Funny, sarcastic and kind.

Going to heed your advice plus a night cap.

FrippEnos · 29/07/2020 23:12

TheHoneyBadger

It was a fuck up response to your point, I suspect that they are a name change from a TB with form or the new us4them wankers/bots.

noblegiraffe · 29/07/2020 23:19

Do report the shitposters, I had one of Ladymanners posts removed earlier for something that would have been left as ‘valid debate’ before.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 29/07/2020 23:22

@noblegiraffe I just love the tag teaming comment ...

Grad schemes are being pulled. DD has a friend whose London grad scheme has just been pulled with only a month before she was due to start. She has other friends who have signed up to do master degrees.

It would be lovely to attract new young talent into the profession.

The Honeybadger - you need to check out that you have filled out your death in service grant form naming your son (I'm sure you will have already done it but forgotten) as full beneficiary. Also, your annual pension statement will show who is nominated. Your death in service payment and child's pension will pay out however you die; it doesn't have to be related to work.
