You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom.

@CallmeAngelina yep, I shall come and die with you, at a 2m distance of course

flumposie · 10/06/2020 19:05

@CallmeAngelina I will be on that hill with you. I will not be teaching over Summer . I will be making resources as always but hell no to teaching. After 24 years of teaching this is where I draw the line.Angry

CallmeAngelina · 10/06/2020 19:06

#Solidarity!

Oh, and over on the batshit furlough thread, I notice tumbleweed around since my suggestion that we could use some help in cleaning the loos at school at the moment. That has clearly gone done like a fart in a spacesuit.

namechangedyetagain · 10/06/2020 19:08

I do wonder what I'm getting myself into! At least I kind of know the realities and have not been brainwashed by the glossy teacher recruitment ads.

Appuskidu · 10/06/2020 19:08

Hmm, does that extract imply that teachers will need to use the final weeks of this term planning programmes for God-knows-who to deliver over the holidays?Fuck that! Not happening either.

Every non-vulnerable teacher in my school is using these last few weeks in school doing their full time hours teaching. The vulnerable are at home setting and marking for the year groups not attending. There is no give here.

Gav can fuck right off if he wants me in over the summer.

I’d like to see how he gets on with the ex-teacher volunteer army!

Appuskidu · 10/06/2020 19:09

I will be on that hill with you

Me, too. 23 years in and have had enough.

motherrunner · 10/06/2020 19:15

@CallmeAngelina Room on the hill for me - and this thread?

Haven’t been in the staff room for a while but today’s briefing has been the final straw.

20 years of teaching and I despair. Since the day my school closed I have been teaching lessons live to timetable, weekly meetings, form tutor periods, marking to policy, have done one parents evening and another in two weeks time.

I make my own children so their school work from 6-7am and then from 6-7pm when I am free from my work to help them. They are 5 and 9. They do not go out to play. They sit in the lounge on devices all day whilst I teach in the kitchen where I can see them.

I need my holiday ☹️

@ohthegoats

Oh yes, I've been suspended and won't be allowed to reregister because I'm not posting with the best of intentions. I have emailed them with a list of people who also don't post with the best of intentions.

Presumably I'll be suspended with this account too now. Which is fine, the moderating here is appalling and very obviously right wing. Not my bag.

I'll find somewhere else to vent my spleen about teacher bashing by bitches and bellends!!

Good luck everyone with being back in school properly, let's hope everything goes well and we can get back to normal in September.

That's utterly ridiculous! I could name dozens of goady fucker posters who appear on every damn thread slagging off teachers who are allowed to say what they like.

I've complained before about MNHQ who appear to share the prejudice and bigotry towards teachers that some posters have.

FrippEnos · 10/06/2020 19:22

@CallmeAngelina

Its going to have to be a huge hill.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 10/06/2020 19:23

Dying on the same hill, folks.

No way will I be teaching over summer.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2020 19:23

If I say 2 metres away and bring my own packed lunch , can I squeeze on to the hill too?

CallmeAngelina · 10/06/2020 19:31

All welcome!

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 10/06/2020 19:33

@TheHoneyBadger

Was sad to get responses like we can’t give everyone their preferred year groups. I actually prefer ks4 when teaching my specialty but imo it’s completely off to have ks4 groups as a non specialist. Didn’t mention it but I’m fairly sure parents would be pissed off with non specialists teaching ks4.
Honey I've taught KS4 in a subject that I don't have a GCSE in Shock

It was fine, just took more preparation. I think I actually explained things better because I'd had to recently learn it myself.

Cantaloupeisland · 10/06/2020 19:34

Loving this ever expanding hillside festival Grin

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 10/06/2020 19:38

That hill needs to be a mountain. Absolutely no way will I teach during the summer.

WiFi was rubbish today

Summer catch up would be doomed to fail...no parent would send their children in anyway. The ones who need it most are most likely the ones least likely to use it

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2020 19:41

There will be an ideological clash between the mental health treadmill schools are cruel lobby and the get the economy running , get em exams and qualifications and get em taught lobby.

For those who haven't listened another poster posted this on staffroom. It's fab:

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 10/06/2020 19:41

Count me in for the hill climbing.

They can't pay me enough. (Not that they would).

I'm not even volunteering for KW if that goes over the summer. It would be different in primary but most of our KW are perfectly fine to be at home (we have a significant number of y10 in) but are in for FOMO.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/06/2020 19:42

I'm coming to the hill too. I'll bring snacks, but I'm not sure how to share them while staying 2m away from you all.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2020 19:43

Glowsticks would be good.

HipTightOnions · 10/06/2020 19:47

Can I join you on your hill please? I need some refuge as I’ve let myself get sucked into some mad discussions today.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2020 19:50

Seen you hip. You're doing well.

HipTightOnions · 10/06/2020 19:54

Thanks Piggy

tadjennyp · 10/06/2020 19:54

That's not fair @pfrench
I think MN has been really bad for my mental health today. A real energy drain. I deliberately missed the briefing, but I am going to have to check it out aren't I? Why don't they just announce plans after they have made them in consultation with the people they affect? That common sense they keep banging on about. Hmm

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 10/06/2020 19:56

Yes I listened to that James o Brien broadcast. Some good points made

I get the economy argument, it is going to be dreadful and working mums are going to bear the brunt of it. Who is going to employ/promote a young mum who may have childcare issues? For small businesses it will be a risk they may not want to take.

The mental health argument is slightly different and there is a bit of bandwagon jumping. Some children have known issues and clearly need support as they are clearly being impacted.p - I worry about them.

However some kids maybe picking up on parent viewpoints/worries etc sibling squabbling. I think some parents are making the situation worse. I have Year 10 students who fall into both camps.

Likewise I have some who are as happy as Larry with the current situation as they meet up with mates in the park, online gaming, tiktok videos, cooked breakfast every morning and one is at the family second home in Cornwall!
