You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom.

People need to realise the only way we’ll get a decent education system is if parents and teachers demand it together and focus their efforts against the government instead of each other.

People are so easily played. You’d think with so much information available to so many people we’d be less bloody gullible

FrippEnos · 18/06/2020 15:35

The martyrdom from the OP on the 1600 thread is amazing.

But then the 'Aren't I a nice poster' and teachers have got it wrong' on the complain to your own schools is an interesting twist.

JimmyGrimble · 18/06/2020 15:40

I think the OP was the one asking for a teacher cull last night. Bonkers.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/06/2020 15:47

Although happiness has generally improved since the start of lockdown, “our assessment of life overall, such as our life satisfaction and feeling that the things we do are worthwhile, have remained subdued”, the ONS says.

This amused me. Generally life is still meaningless but we’re a lot happier for getting off the hamster wheel for a while.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/06/2020 15:55

That’s actually made my day. Clearly, ‘people are happier during a pandemic than they normally are in our current version of normal life’, was not the result they were hoping for. They tried to temper it with a ‘however’ and the best they could come up with was it’s equally meaningless as before

Piggywaspushed · 18/06/2020 16:20

I think the cull person was someone else to be fair : that was a horrible comment. Not teacher bashing at all; oh no.

Poor old Darwin must be rolling in his grave being associated with all these nincompoops with their half brains.

Piggywaspushed · 18/06/2020 16:23

A 13 day old baby has died Sad

How can anyone minimise that?

JimmyGrimble · 18/06/2020 16:23

Aaah sorry piggy they’ve all started to blend into one angry mass.

Appuskidu · 18/06/2020 16:45

Looks like Twat Hancock is doing the Coronashow today so no education announcements.

Maybe Gav is still in detention trying to finish writing his speech...

Words like ‘World-beating‘, ‘vulnerable’ and ‘disadvantaged’ have been written as a word bank nearby to help him...

ohthegoats · 18/06/2020 16:46

I just asked if I can have my class back in groups of 5 or 6 at a time to show them how to use fucking email. Admin are going to ask if the kids would be willing to do that. I really want to see them, and it would be great to get them going with tech just in case next term.

ohthegoats · 18/06/2020 16:47

the re-opening was way more cautious than what we would have accepted

Same here. For most. There are still some extremely anxious ones who if they had their way would stay in forever to avoid this.

ineedaholidaynow · 18/06/2020 16:51

I checked the Parliament schedule (as I am sad!) and there are questions on Education scheduled for Monday afternoon so I assume Gav will be speaking then.

CallmeAngelina · 18/06/2020 16:54

Our staffroom board today was full of email printouts from grateful parents thanking us all for the fabulous effort we've made all through this.

www.tes.com/news/coronavirus-pm-crucial-teachers-make-catch-plan-summer

Has this been discussed? Teachers producing individual catch-up plans for each kid by the summer?

Jog on.

Appuskidu · 18/06/2020 17:02

Is this the new plan then?

Teachers write individual catch up plans for each child. Tutors working for ‘government approved’ tutoring agencies get big dollops of cash and the tutors (not teachers) follow the plans at minimum wage?

BlessYourCottonSocks · 18/06/2020 17:07

I've done mine.

Complete all lessons set since 20 March to ensure you do not fall behind.

That is lovely. Our head often says in his weekly briefing how much positive communication he receives from parents and I'd love to see it.

@BlessYourCottonSocks

Yep.

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/06/2020 17:16

Touché bless

Some great posts above about academic progress especially primary, bar certain cohorts.

I honestly think I'm two years or less in primary you wouldn't see any difference.

It's upper secondary, GCSE and a level, that's the issues.

Very interested in the New Zealand earthquake data on progress.

(Without major input in efforts to catch up I mean.)

The extra targeted tuition may impact pupils who are and were falling behind anyway; I can't see it being offered to any child who was already judged to be doing as they should and has good attention and attendance at school anyway.

Would would be helpful is if all class sizes for primary lit and num were reduced right down due to the input of extra tuition. I've said before how amazing it was to teach a class of 20.
