You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom.

@CarrieBlue

Honey I've taught KS4 in a subject that I don't have a GCSE in shock

I’ve taught some A-level that I don’t have a gcse in, just part of a module but still....

I’m not sure if the comments are meant to say don’t make a fuss it’s normal? I’m being expected to teach ks4 physics, chemistry and biology. I don’t think that is ok for me or the students personally.

Comments have felt like I should just suck it up. Teaching science to ks4 without even having health and safety training let alone relevant qualifications is not what I signed up for or what parents think they’re signing up for.

Didn’t think we’d give out suck up whatever is thrown at you advice on here

www.rte.ie/news/education/2020/0610/1146580-covid-education/

Let’s hope they don’t try this sort of guilt-tripping shite over here.

Volunteers Angry. What happened to just bloody paying people to work overtime?

pooiepooie25 · 10/06/2020 21:16

I am coming up the hill. Shit cook - so I will bring some crisps.
I want to be paid for all the millions of extra hours I have worked over the past 17 years. This is the first time I have ever just worked the hours I am paid for - I actually- I lie. I still do stuff on my days off...

pooiepooie25 · 10/06/2020 21:24

And the ideas that some people are coming out with- it reminds me of the utter shit you see on the Apprentice when they are given a task to do. You know when you are screaming at the tv, " are you fuckwits?"

CallmeAngelina · 10/06/2020 21:26

Now, now, pooie. You are not allowed to pan an idea even if it's beyond shit unless you can come up with an effective alternative.

Asuitablecat · 10/06/2020 21:28

And the 'teachers in.their final year of training' . Lots of us just did the one!

Flagsfiend · 10/06/2020 21:32

@TheHoneyBadger I always thought as teachers we 'could' teach anything but some subjects have health and safety requirements that mean you shouldn't without training. I'm a science teacher but wouldn't be happy teaching DT for example. And I'm always a bit edgy if someone is room swapped into my lab and they aren't a science teacher.

DfE guidance on summer catch up scheme:-

The Ninth Republic - stand by for the return of Year 10
minisoksmakehardwork · 10/06/2020 21:43

Oh ffs! I wish they would just leave the summer holidays to the kids clubs that would normally run. It is hard enough getting students who would really rather not be in school on what would be a normal school day to do their work. Over the Easter and May break it was damn near impossible. If they put those same students in over the summer I fully expect a student riot let alone teaching staff. The students I worked with today are vulnerable in terms of sen and engagement. They will not take kindly to being forced into school over the summer in order to catch up with work they should also have been doing over these last few weeks.

CarrieBlue · 10/06/2020 21:43

@TheHoneyBadger - no, make a lot of fuss - it was a solidarity in the shitness of teaching out of subject post, sorry that wasn’t clear.

Sureitwillbegrand · 10/06/2020 21:44

@Appuskidu please tell me that is a piss take!

Appuskidu · 10/06/2020 21:48

@Sureitwillbegrand

What gave it away? Grin

ChloeDecker · 10/06/2020 21:51

How on earth can pfrench be suspended when other posters are going to the lengths of having usernames like this to goad us?! Crazy!!

HoneyBadger my DH is Science and has to teach Physics and Chemistry at KS4 and Physics at A Level when he is a Biology teacher and I have had to also teach Maths up to KS4 when I didn’t do it for A Level and have had to support numerous colleagues teaching ICT (now Computing) over the years - it’s crazy and I feel for you. Ellle · 10/06/2020 21:56

@CallmeAngelina

I've reported yet another "what are teachers doing all day" which is allowed to stand when pfrench's wasn't. My point was that it is a carbon copy of gazillions of other threads, which is not allowed re: Madeleine McCann for example, only teacher-bashing, it seems.
I can't believe that thread has been moved from AIBU to the Coronavirus section, when it is so obviously goady and the OP hasn't posted with the best of intentions (which is what they claimed as the reason for pfrench's suspension).
Sureitwillbegrand · 10/06/2020 21:56

@Appuskidu I believe I have lost my sense of humour 😂 😂 I actually read that and thought how dare they! I got moved to leadership this year so I'm dreading this 😕

pooiepooie25 · 10/06/2020 22:03

Appuskidu- I thought that was realGrin- although don't tempt fate!

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2020 22:07

Why are AIBUs being moved to CV. It really doesn't need that level of policing now. AIBU can be about anything and at elast we know it's a bunfight there.

CV is in health :it should be about health or not there.

Lancrelady80 · 10/06/2020 22:17

They only moved it?! I saw it was gone and though they'd actually done something about a teacher bashing thread for once!

CallmeAngelina · 10/06/2020 22:24

I saw something on here from I think it was Justine recently, saying they delete multiple threads on the same theme.
Apart from slagging us off, it seems.

Cantaloupeisland · 10/06/2020 22:30

Quite- page 1 of the cv board and there are 12 threads that are obviously about schools by their title, probably more less obvious ones as well. All saying the same things. It's laughable really

Flagsfiend · 10/06/2020 22:40

At least with ones with school in the title I know to avoid them. However schools seem to be taking over other threads as well, what has opening zoos got to do with schools? Large outdoor area in household groups Vs indoors for long periods of time in mixed groups - I can see the similarities...

greathat · 10/06/2020 22:43

I've signed up for the teacher Tapp thing. Question today was would I recommend teaching as a career? There was no "fuck no" option

HipTightOnions · 10/06/2020 22:44

I’ve just received this email from one of my Y9:

I'm giving it another go, and the help you gave me is working.

So sod the bashers, this is what matters, isn’t it?

Night all. Tomorrow is another day.

SallyLovesCheese · 10/06/2020 22:55

Just checking in. I want to say that if there is payment (bet there won't be), I may well teach over the summer, but only because I don't earn much and DH isn't working at the moment. So I could really do with the extra money.

I'd much rather be on the hill with you all. But money is currently a real worry for me. Sad

Can't believe pfrench got deleted. That's made me sad just before I go to bed. This site isn't giving me a lot of joy at the moment.

tisaginthing · 10/06/2020 23:15

I'll find somewhere to perch on the hill! I'll bring some fancy crisps Grin
Definitely not happy about catch up teaching over the summer. It would be nice to, y'know, actually see loved ones during that time. And get on with all those little jobs that get forgotten about until the summer.
