You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

Why is the main media not picking this up and reporting? This doesn't make the 1st June look good at all

I agree-it’s not being reported at all. Why?

RigaBalsam · 22/05/2020 16:15

Nothing on sky or BBC

RigaBalsam · 22/05/2020 16:20

The Daily mails reporting on it is abysmal as expected.

pfrench · 22/05/2020 16:22

Get it on to FB - that's where loads of people get their news (and opinions) from!

I've managed to get my recording in the bag. Thank fucking fuck. Equivalent fractions, first intro - just needs to be worded SO carefully.

Cantaloupeisland · 22/05/2020 16:24

I think the government will just fiddle the science/stats/whatever in order to get us back June 1st. They won't want to lose face. They'll find a way to say all tests have been met and it's safe. Is it too early for Friday gin?

SansaSnark · 22/05/2020 16:28

@cantaloupeisland

I agree. Never too early for Friday gin, though.

Danglingmod · 22/05/2020 16:33

Cantaloupe - individual schools and MATS and LEAs are making the final decision, though. Falling like flies in my area (ie primaries that were going to open on the 1st now looking at 15th).

Cantaloupeisland · 22/05/2020 16:35

Apparently over 90% of our year 10 will be back in June 1st, despite having no guidance from the useless DfE

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/05/2020 16:35

Yes I think this will be taken out of the government's hands and be down to individual councils and even schools, as is already happening. Many are saying that they are allowing schools to make the ultimate decision.

Apart from anything it's about logistics.

Danglingmod · 22/05/2020 16:36

Really? It is a small cohort?

I don't know any local schools who are looking at having them all in at the same time. My school still hasn't made any firm plans.

Piggywaspushed · 22/05/2020 16:39

Do The Guardian ever get represented at the daily Briefing?

Piggywaspushed · 22/05/2020 16:40

Our head has had to massively row back on may plans today after union pressure. He hasn't said that's why it is.

RigaBalsam · 22/05/2020 16:41

An academy chain has been forced to change its plans three times because the DfE issued 41 updates to its guidance in a week

Hmm
Cantaloupeisland · 22/05/2020 16:42

About 170, they won't all be in at once, they're splitting them into groups doing 2 hour sessions at a time then going home. Then of course there's all the key worker lot still in

WhyNotMe40 · 22/05/2020 16:44

I still don't know what's happening at my school - we are supposed to be told today and it's not like the head to delay emails.
My kids school is still ploughing ahead with 1st June for R yr1 and yr6 and I have to let them know asap if dd2 will attend. I keep flip flopping.

Piggywaspushed · 22/05/2020 16:45

I still don't quite understand where the independent SAGE bunch fit into all this.

Appuskidu · 22/05/2020 16:46

This is all the BBC have to say on it!!

...

The government has released the evidence it used when creating the plan to reopen schools for some pupils from 1 June. It says the risk of coronavirus to pupils going back to the classroom was "very, very small, but it is not zero"

TheHoneyBadger · 22/05/2020 16:49

Seems our school got round the working through holidays issue by asking staff to volunteer and had enough volunteers.

Have ploughed through a fair bit of maths with ds. Transpires he’d never been taught how to do fractions on a calculator. Loving the cgp books.

pfrench · 22/05/2020 16:55

I can't do another term of providing online stuff while having my child around and partner hogging the office and bandwidth. It's 'super' that I can work in the middle of the night, but I'd rather not.

phlebasconsidered · 22/05/2020 17:02

Apparently we are all back in bubbles of 15 on the 8th. Everyone apart from those staff with a letter from the NHS. So I'm to be in regardless. That was made quite clear.

It's not going away apparently, so if we don't feel able to take the small risk - because we came into the job to work either children after all- then we should talk to HR. In other words, leave.

I am so very disappointed in my school leadership.

Piggywaspushed · 22/05/2020 17:05

Our head thinks that recording lessons does not add to workload.

Piggywaspushed · 22/05/2020 17:06

phlebas UNION UNION UNION

RigaBalsam · 22/05/2020 17:06

Piggy your head sounds like a right weapon!

Piggywaspushed · 22/05/2020 17:07

appu I assume the BBC didn't understand the SAGE stuff?

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/05/2020 17:11

Oh phleb, Union now!

The thing is, the government have also ignored the official sage group.

I bet the news peeps are attempting to untangle the difference between "not safe to open" and "not safe to open."
