You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

I think the government's sage group are feeling they are going to be held responsible when things go tits up and are starting to be more vocal

TheHoneyBadger · 22/05/2020 14:25

Agree greathat.

DreamingofBrie · 22/05/2020 14:35

53 posts in already!

Just taught my last lesson of the half term. Exhausted and getting fat from all of the comfort cheese and wine that has been consumed this week. Thanks for all of the updates. I'm going to read them now Flowers.

God, this independent SAGE stuff is good. Am assuming that is why they are not in the real group.

Appuskidu · 22/05/2020 14:43

Is the ‘3 times less risk’ the real sage info we have been waiting for?

That doesn’t mean they don’t spread it and what about the adults?!

DreamingofBrie · 22/05/2020 14:49

Glad it went ok HoneyBadger. Hope it has given you some peace of mind.

Appuskidu · 22/05/2020 14:51

I’ve seen the Independent SAGE stuff but that’s not what we’re waiting for today, is it?

Piggywaspushed · 22/05/2020 14:55

appu is the science stuff you are waiting for the stuff due next Thursday 28th??

RigaBalsam · 22/05/2020 14:56

Apou the stuff we are waiting for is on my copy of Ben kentish tweets it's shocking.

RigaBalsam · 22/05/2020 14:57

The government have literally not ' followed the Science' or have I read this incorrectly?

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/05/2020 15:03

@TheHoneyBadger glad it went well.

@piggywaspushed totally agree that woman was amazing - I was impressed they had looked so much into the social/well being of children as well as just the infection risks.

Appuskidu · 22/05/2020 15:04

is the science stuff you are waiting for the stuff due next Thursday 28th??

I don’t think so? I thought it was due out today.

RigaBalsam · 22/05/2020 15:04

I did chuckle at the fake sage when they mentioned are a marquee in outside meetings:

greathat · 22/05/2020 15:21

I was interested in how many failed to answer the BAME question til they found one person willing to give it a go

pfrench · 22/05/2020 15:28

I'm furious today that a) I can't get past this one fucking lesson recording that I keep messing up, and b) that any of us have been asked to make these decisions/choices.

It's not fair on heads to have to do this.
It's not fair on school staff to have to feel weak for not wanting to go in.
It's not fair on parents to have to make choices about whether to send their children back or not.

The government should just say this is how it is, here's the science. And if they can't do that, then there should be no choices to make.

Look at that idiot on the health thread at the minute saying she doesn't understand why schools are making a fuss because 'the guidance' - zero critical thinking skills, the 'guidance' has changed continuously and clearly she has no idea. That person, who is a dumbarse, is being left to make potentially life and death decisions for other people.

pfrench · 22/05/2020 15:31

I've been furious since Tuesday. I need to really drunk or something. I had caramel vodka on icecream for my lunch.

RigaBalsam · 22/05/2020 15:35

Why is the main media not picking this up and reporting? This doesn't make the 1st June look good at all.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/05/2020 15:55

Newcastle and Gateshead have both said 1st isn't happening.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/05/2020 15:55

Council that is.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/05/2020 15:58

"It is likely that some schools will be ready to welcome some groups of children from Monday 8 June."

www.theguardian.com/education/2020/may/22/ministers-rejected-school-reopening-plan-recommended-by-sage-experts

This article is the top thing on the guardian homepage right now, although as the newspapers have gone, they have probably been most sympathetic to teachers.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/80-parents-feel-its-not-22070066

This is top on the mirror.

It's only the Tory press who aren't reporting (I include the BBC in that, these days).

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/05/2020 16:08

Dd's school wrote to us this week to say they won't be opening to year 6 on 1st June. They are a junior school so don't have nursery, reception or year 1. I don't know what the infant school will be doing, but they seem to work quite closely and I can't imagine they'll be doing anything different. They are staying open for KW children and are preparing for a larger group of KW and vulnerable children as more parents return to their workplaces. They say they are aiming for June 15th for year 6, after more risk assessing and preparing.
