You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

My son's school and associated schools in the trust are still risk assessing with the LEA. That's also what my own school are doing and I wonder if the lea are too. We are increasing capacity which we had intended to do after Easter when parents asked but as yet no further news.

CallmeAngelina · 17/05/2020 16:50

I mean, is it really necessary to strip the classrooms bare like that? Removing soft furnishings is one thing, but that looks like a prison cell.

Geraniumblue · 17/05/2020 16:54

I’m having anxious dreams about going back. As a TA I am not going to be any parent’s first choice to supervise their child. (I do, in fact, have several useful degrees, but the perception of TAs is never good). Before I was off, the atmosphere in school was awful - very stressed colleagues and management. Getting told off for not managing to socially distance the children at playtime. It’s not the virus I’m dreading. It’s the environment and lack of support.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 16:55

Sorry for all the typos. My phone does not believe of is a word.

Alok Sharma massively sidestepped a question about track and trace and schools. We are back to the handwashing.

MossWalk · 17/05/2020 16:56

I feel it's unfair on children to look at things they aren't allowed to touch, so my room will probably have to look similar. I have so many soft furnishings and toys which can't be easily cleaned.

We also don't have enough plastic/ cleanable toys to share out between each bubble.

IHateCoronavirus · 17/05/2020 16:57

Sad oh is is an EYFS before and after! Then the situation is worse than I thought!

pinkrocker · 17/05/2020 17:00

@MossWalk for my subject (food & textiles) the theory is all there & v well created. I can amend to do easily on Google classroom. The practical isn't. If I was allowed to make videos I could do it?

MossWalk · 17/05/2020 17:01

Oh I was hoping you were EYFS too. Thanks.

pinkrocker · 17/05/2020 17:01

@Appuskidu I bet the R rate magically drops on the 29th May, or we'll be told that the R rate doesn't apply to us, or its irrelevant or something.

pinkrocker · 17/05/2020 17:02

@MossWalk no sorry, used to be KS1!

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 17:08

Well, the ASCL thing definitely suggest we will ONLY know on 28 May. FFS.

RigaBalsam · 17/05/2020 17:15

They are reassured! Billocks!

Appuskidu · 17/05/2020 17:16

@RigaBalsam exactly Angry

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 17:19

The unions are definitely submitting. ASCL have never given a stuff about teachers, to be honest.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 17:21

RigaBalsam · 17/05/2020 17:22

Is it correct Eton and Harrow are not back until September?

Appuskidu · 17/05/2020 17:30

Yes, I think that’s true, @RigaBalsam
I’m don’t know if it makes a difference that they are a boarding secondary?

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 17:33

Eton are also breaking up on June 15th I believe.

But I am sure they have been doing Zoom lessons, sooo....

Clearly they have no underprivileged students so will go unchallenged.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of their staff are redeployed, though. to 'help out' the prole teachers at some London schools.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 17:33

staff , we need a new republic!

WhyNotMe40 · 17/05/2020 17:34

I'm sorry but this is a very negative post.
I'm feeling very down
I'm feeling that because I am providing work as per my school's guidelines it is not good enough work, not good enough lessons.
I have been emailing out PowerPoints and summary sheets so the students can revise a topic we have already covered then do an educake or similar quiz. Then I've been emailing group feedback.
Maybe all the schools and teacher bashers have a point - maybe some of us are NOT doing enough, and well that would be me.
But I've only been doing what my school has told me to.
I know our school guidance will be changing soon to actual online lessons so I'm trying to get my head around teams.
But I feel so low and crappy and down.
And what will reception look like when my August baby starts in September? He's already said he does not want to go. Sad
