You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

The bubble thing is never going to be perfect, but it does at least reduce contacts.
Before and after school will have to have their own bubbles so the pupils are then members of 3 bubbles

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 08:56

Would all 3 bubbles have to isolate then if someone fell ill??

drspouse · 17/05/2020 08:59

Even in normal times my DD who had quite bad continence issues in YR was cleaned up using gloves and an apron or, as we now know them, PPE. It's horrendous how poorly supplied even these specialist settings are.
My DS PRU is going to be using PPE for any restraint situations (I assume they have what they need as it's rare) and, as has been said already, any deliberate spitting or coughing means exclusion.

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/05/2020 09:04

Are we doing that?! No, that's no bubble.

Bil's school are considering y6 first and then either y1 or R based on building layout and the classroom size which he said are borderline too small for a class of 30 anyway.

I really can't believe how or why my friend's daughter's school near Gateshead has invited the other years back from the 14th June, though I haven't read the details. Others seem to be taking a judgement and doing their own thing.

My own child's school hasn't responded yet at all as they're working within their trust. It's 3 tier so I do wonder if they'll do something slightly different. The y4s are a worry transition wise. The idea that y6 in middle schools go back was I think based on equality across the country but I disagree that the y4s should therefore miss any opportunity to transition. I'm wondering if they'll utilise the middle schools too??

The whole thing is bonkers.

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/05/2020 09:08

Thanks for the link why

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 09:11

Just seen Amber Rudd : if one more politician refers to getting whole year groups back all at the same time, full time, as a 'phased approach', I may do damage to my telly.

Of course, if the government had ever invested in affordable universal childcare in this country there wouldn't be the same level of headaches over the grandparents army of childcare : like, oh, let's say there is in DENMARK.

WhyNotMe40 · 17/05/2020 09:11

It is bonkers. I'm no conspiracy theorist but I'm rapidly coming around to the idea that the plan is to infect all the teachers, infect all of the children and low risk age group parents as well (before we start mixing with the higher risk grandparents and shielded whether we are told we can or not - people get fed up of not seeing grandparents so they will have to do it quickly) then we can all get better over the summer before the second wave hits..

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/05/2020 09:13

I suppose I've never thought of it as ppe, but we do use ppe for intimate care.

I don't think we would have time to Don ppe for physical handling. But, I do think there will be less physical handling simply as we will be putting less demands on those particular pupils and they're in much smaller groups.

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/05/2020 09:16

Piggy it's like one of those exam questions that no one can do till it's revealed its was actually a dud question and is unanswerable.

No rota, all year groups in, classes of 15, no extra classrooms, some staff wfh.

Where's the army of volunteers for schools???!

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/05/2020 09:18

Why, it undoubtedly is an experiment. And some days I feel it's better attempted or trialled now rather than sept, it's just that the guidance was stupid.

Sir Dan discussed how they'd do it weeks ago and said it was only possible with a rota.

Saucery · 17/05/2020 09:19

Our before and after school ‘bubble’ will involve all year groups in and 2 other primary schools. So not very bubble-y at all.

MossWalk · 17/05/2020 09:19

Morning all. I feel like the Sunday fear is creeping back in.

I am going in this week to try and set up classrooms. We don’t have enough plastic/ washable toys for each bubble. It is going to be truly miserable. Desks and chairs for 5 year olds 😰

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 17/05/2020 09:23

The army of volunteers idea seems to have changed. Maybe someone reminded politicians about safeguarding and the media storm something went wrong

Mosswalk if you are going in to a classroom that has been mothballed please take care of the risk of legionnaire's from unused taps.

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/05/2020 09:33

The only reason I feel now is an idea to plan for at the very least is that I feel there's going to be no difference to much in sept (bar testing??).

I do think it's staged to get planning done. Also, the swine flu epidemic was broken by the school hols so that's the other factor they've gone with. Which yes does mean allow more infections and study the patterns.

MossWalk · 17/05/2020 09:39

Thank you WhyNot. Thankfully our caretaker is very on the ball.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 09:59

Marr is giving Gove a run for his money but Gove is making me angry.

But STILL no one thinks to ask when teachers get a break during the school day.

I think we are expected to be angels , who always put others before ourselves. That's the general discourse. And that's why we get bashed so much, if we ever show any signs of caring about the self over others. It's the Mother Teresa trope.

Saucery · 17/05/2020 10:01

I can’t not go for a wee. Or if I have my period. And I will not be eating in the same classroom as the children. So that simply is not happening at all.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 10:01

The union survey was interesting : the question on what PPE we had included tissues and soap.

I am guessing workplaces given extra funds for extra PPE buy soap/anti bac/tissues, wipes out of that budget. It's not just gloves, masks and aprons PPE.

ineedaholidaynow · 17/05/2020 10:05

@NeurotrashWarrior your BIL’s school is using the wrong priority per the Government’s guidance, as schools are meant to prioritise the youngest children first, and if the school has a nursery that would be the 3 year olds. As a Primary School Governor I much prefer your BIL’s school’s approach.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 10:10

Does anyone know what happens with this 'one adult in the room' thing with EHCP kids who are entitled to 1:1 support? I really worry about SEN kids being thrown under a bus and EHCPs being put on almost indefinite hold : awful for the kids , and also the teachers.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 10:13

Maybe someone should get on toe journalist Emma Barnett. Everyone did cry sexism yesterday about the assumption that primary school teachers would have childcare problems because they are mainly female but, practically, we know this is true.

Emma Barnett is her book Period talks a great deal about how the workplace isn't set up, and doesn't care about- issues surrounding menstruation/menopause and things like cystitis. She might care that we aren't getting breaks!

Can anyone tweet her?

ineedaholidaynow · 17/05/2020 10:17

Aren’t the 1:1 TAs being redeployed as the adult for another bubble. Very few Primary Schools have general TAs now.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 10:20

Yes, exactly. But they can't be TA and teacher, so what support does the EHCP child get?

I am sure none is the answer.
