You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

So... the government keep repeating that the five tests have to be met before schools can reopen... they haven’t been met yet, have they?

WhyNotMe40 · 16/05/2020 20:10

I can't even remember what the 5 tests were to be honest. I thought they would be quickly dropped so didn't pay that much attention.
Better criteria would be

  1. Testing of everyone in schools every week with contact tracing, and
  2. No new community transmission detected for at least 2 weeks in the LEA or at the least catchment area.
Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2020 20:11

The number of deaths today was higher than Saturday last week.

CallmeAngelina · 16/05/2020 20:18

Rest assured, they will find a way of wriggling out of the 5 tests, or changing the goalposts so that there's a new set of criteria that, oh! How lucky! We meet them all.

Appuskidu · 16/05/2020 20:22

It’s very convenient that the R number is something that is very carefully and scientifically calculated (is can just be made up on the spot) so can’t be disputed by us plebs.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 16/05/2020 20:34

@TheHoneyBadger the more I am on this site the more militant I become - I am turning into my dad 💪🏻

All this pseudo caring about the poor. I dare say that quite a few have kids at clubs (which will need to reopen when schools are back) or have tuition for 11 plus or what. Granted they are not all private school but I bet they would if they could.

WhyNotMe40 · 16/05/2020 20:36

I've actually just looked up the 5 tests

  1. NHS has adequate capacity
  2. Death rate shows a sustained and consistent fall
  3. R below 1
  4. PPE and testing capacity is sufficient
  5. Any adjustments will not risk a second peak.

Well you can't say if 5 has been met until you've tried it really, it's just opinion. So the sticking point is number 4 on the PPE. And they will claim that's fine as that's what they have been saying all along.

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2020 20:40

We all know that's why they have said we don't need PPE.

FlamingoAndJohn · 16/05/2020 20:41

There is nothing that can’t be ‘fiddled’ really.

cheesecurdsandgravy · 16/05/2020 20:47

Oh well... there goes a glimmer of hope...!

I had felt a lot better last week when I deliberately stayed away from mumsnet, I’ve been back about 24 hours and feel sick. I need to be able block everything but staff room! I have NO self control.

WhyNotMe40 · 16/05/2020 20:54

Please could all the wonderful people on here who are competently recording online lessons please have a look at my thread?
...I knew it was a mistake to check work emails on a weekend..... :(

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2020 21:11

Yeah DH had that news landed this weekend too. Bloody Adonis.

I posted whynot but I am of no help really...

phlebasconsidered · 16/05/2020 22:16

I can't work out from the news what the unions have actually agreed. If, as I suspect, they have agreed it's all fine if symptomatic kids get tested, I shall throw my toys out of the pram. Because they screwed me over with a pathetic response during academisation and now, when we need them, they need to bloody STAND UP!!!!

Ffs. Why do I even bother with my subs if they can't even stand up to Wankcock.

WhyNotMe40 · 16/05/2020 22:17

Sorry - am pissed on 2 ciders (lightweight) absolutely no idea what I'm going to do...

FrippEnos · 16/05/2020 22:20

Couldn't stay away.

Just seen that the children's czar believes that schools will be able to provide pencil cases and presumably all stationary because they are more likely to share their own stuff than lunch boxes.

She seems quite deluded.

RigaBalsam · 16/05/2020 22:28

Looks like Twitter think Big Gav is a sanctimonious hypocrite. He is.

FrippEnos · 16/05/2020 22:29

he hasn't actually answered any questions for a long time, he just trots out the same BS.

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/05/2020 07:47

Amusingly, the fb slt group has posted a quote definitely from mumsnet from a thread yesterday in schools in the coronavirus area. About a bristol school and who it affects - unfortunately when I've looked into the case I'm not sure it planned out they way the quote says but it's being held up as an example of what could happen.

Currently, KW children are in such small bubbles that I believe infections are well managed. Class sizes of 15 will mean that there's more risk to the KW children.

WhyNotMe40 · 17/05/2020 08:16

I did see that post on another thread. I was going to reply but could not be bothered
I thought only the bubble individuals isolated unless they showed symptoms - then their families isolate

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 08:22

You are correct whynot. Which is why originally they said no breakfast clubs or after school. Now they have said those things can happen, I give up on how bubbles work!

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/05/2020 08:30

Can you remember which thread why?

All the SLT are taking it as read, though one person has pointed out it's been misrepresented.

WhyNotMe40 · 17/05/2020 08:33

I'll try to remember

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/05/2020 08:33

Ah this is the case:

www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-bristol-52635611

Sen schools are an especially difficult area.

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/05/2020 08:35

The issue is that an sen school like that is possibly almost akin to a healthcare setting. So ppe is likely to be needed.

StSaulOfSnacks · 17/05/2020 08:52

If we can offer breakfast and after school clubs, there is no bubble, surely?
