You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

raspberry I'm glad our LA have said that. We haven't heard anything from my school (but we're secondary so not doing anything until we have guidance), dd's school (but she's y5 so not in one of the affected yeargroup and not a priority) or the Union reps (who only took on the job a few weeks ago as we hadn't had one for years).

I'm quite happy that the last message our head sent basically said he wasn't planning on opening for anyone other than KW children until he's given specific guidance on what it should look like for year 10 and 12. The number of buses that come in to our school is a logistical nightmare on a good day, let alone trying to coordinate bubbles within those buses and kids options as well. I'm so glad I am allowed to just get on with setting lessons for my own classes and someone paid more than me is having to do the head scratching logistics of how this is possibly going to work. I think our h&s officer must be at head exploding level about this, she gets very stressed anyway without a pandemic to worry about.

Jenny Harris's gave one of the reasons for secondaries not being reopened as transport and social interactions on the way to and from school. Someone needs to ask her directly in a briefing about what these plans mean. Many of our kids come on the bus. In fact so do year 6 around here!

raspberryrippleicecream · 17/05/2020 14:20

MsAwesome Unison reported back on Friday evening.

RigaBalsam · 17/05/2020 14:23

Agree Piggy we take from a huge catchment. About 50 perverse local but a huge number are bussed in from villages on hired coaches and another area of town from public buses.

Feeling so down today like I am fighting s losing battle and losing my faith in human nature.

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/05/2020 14:26

Thanks raspberry, it's a bit soon for us to have heard from schools yet then. I know our head likes to think things through for himself before he puts things out to staff.

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/05/2020 14:29

Riga and piggy we're in a similar position with the school buses. I think it's about 60% of our kids come in on a school bus. Not many get public buses though, as there aren't any going to/from their villages.

Appuskidu · 17/05/2020 14:30

Right then, fellow primary colleagues who are due back in two weeks-what do we actually think will happen now? Is that it-we’re back?

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 14:32

I cannot wait for the dawning realisation on MN that children in years 7, 8, 9 will be thrown to the dogs if their beloved centralised remote learning. Those threads will be fun when they realise how limited that stuff is.

CallmeAngelina · 17/05/2020 14:38

Looks like it. Stepping up to be heroes and do our bit.Because Michael fucking Gove says it's perfectly safe.

I'm so relieved that my local authority have come out and refused to open on the 1st June. I really hope more follow them. The ones nearby seem to be sending out the same message to parents so I'm hoping they will announce it on Monday.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 17/05/2020 14:46

Heroes has fast become an overused word. When I go back into the physical classroom I am a teacher not a flipping hero.

My neighbours are constantly playing out front with other kids. The adults come into the garden or hang out on the drive. It's such an I'm all right Jack' mentality.

I wish mine would Sad

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/05/2020 15:21

Most of my neighbours are sticking with social distancing (other than a group of them getting a bit pissed together for VE day, but that's ok apparently). We do have one family who are having visitors constantly though. They live next door to me, and are the reason I record any videos at 7am, because any time after about 9 there are at least 5 people hanging around swearing in their small garden, when there are only 3 people living there (one of whom is a baby so can't swear yet!)

SallyLovesCheese · 17/05/2020 15:34

Appu, my school is holding out until they've had chats in the trust and with the LA. They're sending out s parent questionnaire soon to see how many kids were might be looking at. So still waiting and time is a-ticking...

MossWalk · 17/05/2020 15:45

Just seen this on FB. Horrific.

this is not caring for our most vulnerable.

SallyLovesCheese · 17/05/2020 15:53

Presumably before and after? That is hideous. And I think once it's understood this is probably the reality, there is going to be some backlash. For us or the government, I'm not sure yet.

IHateCoronavirus · 17/05/2020 16:22

Sally I think the pictures represent EYFS and KS2. The first picture would normally have lots of soft cushions and a teddy or two under the arch and lots of books and provocations (items) for the children to explore. EYFS classrooms are normally the most exciting and stimulating places to be. Even much older children enjoy a visit as the resources are normally so open ended and bloody lovely.

I’m EYFS and still awaiting news on what we are to do. Our HT is in the middle of merging nursery and reception too. Goodness knows what it is going to look like for us.
My heart breaks for my little ones. I am so scared of the damage this will cause them. Sad

pinkrocker · 17/05/2020 16:26

@MossWalk that's not an EYFS classroom is it???I've spent the day planning my year "as normal" because it needs to have been done.
Then I can refer back to it and create a whole "new normal" set of plans. I'm pleased I found a whole set of quite frankly, brilliant resources on Twitter which I'm going to base everything on.
I've avoided TV, any other page of MN apart from here and my own DC, temper tantrums last night from the teen and icy cold atmosphere in the house right now. Bah! Hate being a single mum Sad

Appuskidu · 17/05/2020 16:29

It’s before and after in EYFS

MossWalk · 17/05/2020 16:36

What plans did you find on Twitter pink? Are they workable with social distancing? I'd love to see an alternative

CallmeAngelina · 17/05/2020 16:38

Is that really necessary?

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 16:43

Every time I open know if these threads if doom, one if the main complaints , after zoom is that teachers haven't phoned kids. I can't for the life of me figure out why this bothers them so much. These are obviously just whinges.
The one by the FE lecturer cracks me up. My DS is now getting no teaching until October and has had no emails no phone calls. I have no expectation that he would get the latter two things!

They're wearing face masks and visors I think?!

mumsneedwine · 17/05/2020 16:50

@Piggywaspushed I got told to 'go away' when I called last week. How dare I call and what their kid was up to was none of my business. We haven't heard from said child in ages, hence my phone call. Usual follow up done.
