You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

Pinkrocker of course we won't be proactively tested when we go back - just if we develop symptoms. Our revered leaders are reactive libertarians. ..

WhyNotMe40 · 16/05/2020 18:14

HoneyBadger well quite. Similar situation here but I do have DH (currently anyway Grin it's pretty thin ice at the moment)

phlebasconsidered · 16/05/2020 18:16

I'm the main earner too Honey. I am so stressed about it.

I think the unions are being pathetic. The NASUWT are posting placating shit on their FB page and I am so cross at them. My friends appear to be secret right wing idiots and I know full well to the number which kids i'll get in. All the ones that won't do as their told ever anyway. Plus the medical questions sent by my academy make me very dubious.

I went for a run today and spent the whole time swearing or crying. Luckily I can run for miles from my garden over fields with no-one seeing me.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/05/2020 18:23

Bless you phleb. Yes whynot I’d inferred you might be in a similar socioeconomic bracket to me.

Going to switch off soon. Know when it’s time to log off lovely people x

CallmeAngelina · 16/05/2020 18:30

I have been SO angry all day. That Gov't briefing and the following news round-up was the last straw.
How fucking LOW can they go, to try to spin this as "the kids deserve to be back in school."
And then all that footage about vulnerable kids - they've been on the fucking list all the way through. Like we're not aware of them!
And then I read the email my HT sent out to parents, with a paragraph saying how much "we're all" looking forward to welcoming Yrs 2, 3, 4 and 5 in in a "couple of weeks!"
We're just fucking cannon fodder.

RigaBalsam · 16/05/2020 18:30

Awww phlebas virtual hugs.

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2020 18:32

My DH's school has just decreed they are going to full timetable live lessons and it looks like my place is bringing them in too so Adonis and the MN massive seem to have won this one.

WhyNotMe40 · 16/05/2020 18:33

Oh Phleb big hugs.
Running/crying can be very cathartic - I hope you feel better for it.
Yes we will have the EveryBloodyDay students in I'm sure. As the part timer I get more than my fair share of them at the best of times!

WhyNotMe40 · 16/05/2020 18:35

I have no fucking idea how I would live lesson. I can barely type this on my phone without my 3 year old wanting to grab it.... I cannot get a laptop out to do anything while he is awake or he is climbing all over trying to tap the keys. The 6 to will be constantly wanting a snack and the 8 year old will be asking for help or getting wound up by the 3 yo.
I will have to put them in keyworker childcare just to work from home!

redskittleorangeskittle · 16/05/2020 18:36

Does anyone else think that all this is a diversion? The government guidance is so vague that it was obvious that teaching Unions would object. It's certainly taken the focus off everything else.

WhyNotMe40 · 16/05/2020 18:37

Redskittle I did think that but I'm not sure

Piggy - will you be able to do Iive lessons?

WhyNotMe40 · 16/05/2020 18:39

I honestly wouldn't mind so much opening up schools more if they would test EVERYONE every week, and do proper contact tracing. Surely that's a bare minimum?

SallyLovesCheese · 16/05/2020 18:40

I agree, Honey, I hate the assumption that we're all sitting pretty on a massive wage.

We are a two parent household but DH is a SAHD so I am the sole earner. On a 0.4 contract. DH is unable to work due to mental health issues. I was topping up my wage with some ad hoc sessional teaching but there's none of that now, so I am worried we will run out of money before long.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 16/05/2020 18:48

Did they seriously say “kids deserve to be back in school”?

I mean they do, but as far as I recall it was the government’s decision to close schools, not the teachers’ decision! Are they phrasing it like teachers are blocking schools opening, or am I just a paranoid wreck after all the teacher bashing threads on here*??

*about that - I’m on other forums where there is no anger towards teachers at all. Even the majority of comments on fb posts are supporting teachers. Mn is definitely not representative of what I’m seeing elsewhere.

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2020 18:58

I think that's definitely true. Don't forget how left-wing MN is though, mind!!

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2020 19:00

whynot , I won't in the platform they are planning, no. And my subject is not conducive. It's solving a problem that isnt there and I resent an SLT who have possibly 3 classes max imposing stuff like this.

phlebasconsidered · 16/05/2020 19:02

Thanks people.
I've just got back from Aldi (wearing a mask) and was painfully aware how much better off in terms of PPE their lovely staff are. Plus I drove past groups of my old year 6's (now 7 and 8) on the way back all out in friendship groups in the village. Ffs!!!!

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2020 19:02

There are quite a few who think tge school stories are concocted by the right-wing media in collusion with the government to distract from the care home shitstorm.

CallmeAngelina · 16/05/2020 19:10

I just posted this on another thread:

The staff in my local supermarket are provided with masks and screens, as well as the Amazon delivery guys, and the bloke who came to collect my car for a service last week had a mask, gloves, sanitiser, anti-bac wipes and covered the inside of the car in clingfilm before he got into it.
All of them kept a clear distance from me, presumably for their own protection (maybe mine too, who knows?)
But for teachers, apparently, those same risks don't apply. We can just roll up to work in a couple of weeks and "play our part" with no fucking protection or care for our welfare at all. We're not professing to be "special cases" at all. We would just like the same things that other workers are now getting.
It makes me sick.

I've just had enough now. I'm normally a tough old bird (as my posts on here will testify), but I am actually sitting here in tears.

mumsneedwine · 16/05/2020 19:20

My DD works at a supermarket and has gloves and a mask if she wants one. But more importantly they have 30 people in the store at one time. And the store is big. She has screens if she's on the tills.
Was thinking about using the safety screen in my lab as it will offer me some protection.
To be honest I think the cases are going to go because of VE Day.

Appuskidu · 16/05/2020 19:23

headteacher-newsletter.com/2020/05/16/faqs-school-opening/

Sounds about right.

I am so pissed off today.

Do we think it’s a done deal? Gav made it sound like it will Definitely be happening. What can the unions actually do?

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2020 19:29

Angelina, you got this! I love your posts. All the rest of us try to reason and are all appeasing and namby pamby and you just tell them how it is! I love your chutzpah!

CallmeAngelina · 16/05/2020 19:41

Thanks, piggy.
Flowers (genuine!)

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2020 19:46

Love that FHT. Sadly, it may well be accurate....

CallmeAngelina · 16/05/2020 19:50

DH just came in the room, took one look and came back and handed me a bottle of wine.
He's a keeper.
