You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

@TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince how fab to meet a fellow fabric fan, I do hope there'll be some way for us to carry on!
I don't think Vicky Ford will allude to it, she will choose the questions she wants to answer Confused

Appuskidu · 15/05/2020 15:01

That letter/graphic would be great to post on the webchat thread with Vicky Ford MP Appuskidu with the question of what science are the following seeing as the BMA don’t agree and Vicky Ford hasn’t actually said ‘what science’ yet!

Sounds like a good idea. Does anyone here know how to do that?!!Blush

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 15:05

I think VF is just toeing the gov line - obviously! And the gov line is 'do not say what science!'

She is working through Qs she finds interesting in order, so obviously not dealing with any new stuff.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/05/2020 15:05

Post. It'll get read if not responded to.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/05/2020 15:06

appu I have!

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 15:06

The key Q though : have the BMA written to the government??

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/05/2020 15:06

Well I just forwarded it to them via mn...

Appuskidu · 15/05/2020 15:11

I’m going to send it to my MP.

RigaBalsam · 15/05/2020 15:12

Dear Colleague

You are entitled to be safe at work, that should not be a lot to expect in the 21st Century but clearly the Government think it is too much to ask. NASUWT is not going to allow them to put your life and that of your loved ones at risk, as well as the lives of the children in your care. NASUWT’s primary focus is to ensure that your workplace is safe before the school can reopen to more children. The NASUWT is working hard on your behalf with the Government, the Employers and Headteachers and you will have by now seen the information from our General Secretary detailing the NASUWT’s position on the current national situation. This is, understandably, a very difficult time and some clarity is necessary. The NASUWT believe that the Government has failed to provide evidence that opening schools at this time is safe. Schools cannot reopen safely to more pupils from 1st Junee_.

Test wasn’t as scary as I thought. Definitely reminded me a lot of the medical bits in a zombie chase game thing I was involved in a few years ago. (I was one of the zombies then, so hopefully a different outcome for me this time...)

@TheHoneyBadger - you can get self test kits posted to you through the self referral portal if you’re interested in having one.

PheasantPlucker1 · 15/05/2020 15:29

What does the test consist of, is it a swab?

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 15:31

In The Times today:

Virus probably spread by 'loud speaking'

Ummmm.... teaching anyone??

ChloeDecker · 15/05/2020 15:32

Just 15 questions answered by Vicky Ford with clever avoidance of teachers’ questions bar one. How to use slow typing to your advantage. What a shame.

www.aol.co.uk/news/2020/05/14/airborne-droplets-from-speech-a-may-contribute-to-spread-of-cor

Was just coming on to mention that, Piggy.
So trying to project to the back of a large, spaced-out class of unsettled children 😔

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 15:37

Avoided questions about middle schools too which is a shame as it is not only teachers concerned about that.

ChloeDecker · 15/05/2020 15:37

A colleague went to the Ebbsfleet one PheasantPkucker1. It is not staffed by health care workers like the ones you see on the news. You get given a test through the car window by quite young looking volunteers and told to drive away. You have to stick a swab far up your nose and one far back down the throat but no one checks if you do it correctly. Then you chick it in a plastic tub and drive off. Crazy.

PheasantPlucker1 · 15/05/2020 15:41

Ill never understand why MPs agree to the webchats when they have nothing to say. She cant possibly think that went well? Confused

Appuskidu · 15/05/2020 15:42

Kevin Courtney has just posted a long update about today’s ‘science’ meeting on Facebook.

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 15:46

I have read the first page of that guidance and thought WTF , schools currently coming up with bonkers plans for year 10 and 12 needs to read that!!!

MurrayTheDemonicTalkingSkull · 15/05/2020 15:46

@PheasantPlucker1 - yes. It was a swab at the back of the throat and then the same one up the nose. Not pleasant but not painful or anything.

MurrayTheDemonicTalkingSkull · 15/05/2020 15:48

@ChloeDecker - Mine was administered by someone who definitely gave the impression of clinical staff. She was efficient and lovely and explained everything before she did it. It was very reassuring.

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 15:49

Firstly, that science document parrots out the advice and adds no science.

Secondly, it once again focuses on younger children. I am soooooo confused by this year 10/12 thing!!

It SAYS they are starting with youngest children.

RigaBalsam · 15/05/2020 15:51

Have you got a link Appu please?
