You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

I've just watched an outdoor cafe in Amsterdam on the news, with diners in little greenhouse style booths and food passed to them on long wooden stick things. Could be an idea for us.

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 13:31

Yup, they have now put even more payment booth/ shield things up to separate customers in my tiny Tesco Express in my village.

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/05/2020 13:32

I've gone back to bed today feeling rough. All my classes are having "cover lessons" today. (ie, I sent links to corbettmaths videos and worksheets). I'm not sure they've noticed. I haven't asked them to send any work, but they're all still emailing me photos!!!!

My feeling rough is a migraine I think. I often get them at this time of the month, but usually manage to keep working using strong painkillers. Today I've just stopped.

ineedaholidaynow · 15/05/2020 13:42

I saw a picture of a school the other day that did have little booths round each desk, can't remember which school that was.

Appuskidu · 15/05/2020 13:44

Do we know when today the unions are meeting the medical advisors?

And will we hear what was said??

pinkrocker · 15/05/2020 13:44

@TheHoneyBadger I think I'll get either pushed out as not required at this time due to the importance of children catching up on core subjects or I'll be told to teach "proper" lessons. Not food & textiles.

pinkrocker · 15/05/2020 13:45

@MsAwesomeDragon I get them, try Alka seltzer XS and a coffee and a nap, usually knocks mine down to manageable level.

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/05/2020 13:46

That would be a terrible shame pink I think food and textiles are really important subjects for kids, particularly the less academic kids who need something practical they can be good at.

RigaBalsam · 15/05/2020 14:20

We have had the SLT email. They are currently following the result of the union discussions while planning for y10. They envisage it as not all students, not all areas, not all staff but on a rota and social distancing and definitely not full time.

We will see.

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 14:22

That MP has a looooooot of questions to work through.

The gender people have invaded the thread and I do hope she ignores those question because they are not relevant to coronavirus and may allow her to avoid other questions.

I am hoping the qs about the 3 tier system do not get bypassed.

A Twitter person had that on his list of greatest concerns this morning in terms of 'what are the DfE even thinking?' top 10!

Mistressiggi · 15/05/2020 14:26

Well it would be quite ironic if the current crisis led to a politician giving a straight answer on women's rights for once!
I see there is a thread saying Liverpool schools are not going to open June 1 except for key workers - is this legit I wonder?

Mistressiggi · 15/05/2020 14:26

Cross post Riga

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 14:34

Apparently, the Liverpool thing is true. Reds under the bed!

Or lying on top of it!

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/05/2020 14:35

I hope you are ok Honey and Murray Thanks

Lol, rebels in the NE!

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 14:37

The politician just nicely sidestepped an opportunity to explain face to face plans for year 12.

It is very frustrating. her answers are so pre prepped.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/05/2020 14:39

I wonder if a few councils will reject this?

Our school aren't following the "June 1st plan" but we are sen so make up our own .

We already knew we needed (and all staff agreed) to take more pupils though before all the guidance came out and are sticking to it, which was looking at safely accommodating more pupils than we've had so far.

Can u link the tweet Appu? I can't read it

Appuskidu · 15/05/2020 14:48

Apologies if it’s not clear-it says that the BMA support the unions in saying there’s not sufficient evidence to safely reopen schools yet.

Appuskidu · 15/05/2020 14:49

I would happily share the tweet but don’t know how to?? Where’s the link?!

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 15/05/2020 14:52

I teach textiles too. I fear for it, sewing machines which are breathed on from a space of 5mm are just going to be crawling

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/05/2020 14:53

Found it!

ChloeDecker · 15/05/2020 14:55

That letter/graphic would be great to post on the webchat thread with Vicky Ford MP Appuskidu with the question of what science are the following seeing as the BMA don’t agree and Vicky Ford hasn’t actually said ‘what science’ yet!
