You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

6.2 How will you make sure it is safe?
Schools can now operate if they are organised in a way that is compatible with minimising the spread of the virus. The next phase of measures will require the development of new safety standards to set out how physical spaces, including schools, can be adapted to operate safely.
We will publish guidance advising schools on reopening to ensure schools can adequately prepare for the next phase. One of the main protective measures we can take to reduce transmission is to have small consistent group and class sizes.

SansaSnark · 11/05/2020 15:09

@Piggywaspushed My MAT seems to be saying that if you are pregnant/asthmatic etc then it is basically up to you whether you feel able to return to work or not. You can say you don't want to come back yet, have an additional risk assessment, or come back as normal. The only tricky thing is that they are asking for these decisions before telling teachers what things will look like in school.

However, I suppose that they need to know who doesn't want to come back yet before they can really decide how they will staff everything!

I can't decide if leaving the decision up to individuals is a good thing or not!

Asuitablecat · 11/05/2020 15:19

If we all do talk less teaching and j u st facilitate, our masks will stay on.

Piggywaspushed · 11/05/2020 15:22

It's a bad thing sansa. Your MAT does need to be encouraged to read those guidelines because whilst being vague, they are clear iysim...

Piggywaspushed · 11/05/2020 15:23

So, small consistent groups at secondary buggers any specialist teaching then.

Cantaloupeisland · 11/05/2020 15:26

Is there no 5pm briefing today? Wanted to hear some questions get asked! The whole thing is, as ever, ridiculously vague. Really impressed with the NEU response so far!

HedyPrism · 11/05/2020 15:27

I wouldn't start an ITT course next year, for sure!

For the PGCE course I'm on, more places have been awarded than at the same time last year. The guaranteed income of a bursary is very enticing in uncertain times.

Appuskidu · 11/05/2020 15:31

There is a briefing with questions from the public at 7pm, I think.

We really need to see the DfE guidance.

SansaSnark · 11/05/2020 15:33

@Piggywaspushed I'll highlight it to my union rep then- she's very good and probably better placed to push back on it than me.

@HedyPrism I can imagine that's the case, but long term it won't be a good choice if they actually want to get into teaching and not just have the money for a year to ride out the storm.

I wonder how unis will find placements for them- I can't see schools being keen to take students next autumn.

MossWalk · 11/05/2020 15:33

I wonder if the DfE found out yesterday at 19.08 too

Imagine having your assessed lesson pandemic-style. Uni tutor via Teams..... what sort of constructive criticism are you going to get?!

PerplexingWords · 11/05/2020 15:44

All primary back before the summer? WTAF.

Appuskidu · 11/05/2020 15:50

This can’t be ALL primary all at once?

Surely even our government wouldn’t be that stupid? 600+ parents waiting in the playground twice a day??

ineedaholidaynow · 11/05/2020 15:56

PM Questions is now on BBC

PerplexingWords · 11/05/2020 16:03

I paraphrase, but as from last night YR, Y1 and Y6 from 1st June and all others before the summer.

PerplexingWords · 11/05/2020 16:03

Still live but no one has picked him up on it yet.

ChloeDecker · 11/05/2020 16:05

Best start making my own face mask for my walk to school this Wednesday!

FrippEnos · 11/05/2020 16:08

Scroll down for the video

PerplexingWords · 11/05/2020 16:08

Sorry just to clarify, that was all primary, no further mention of secondary, and still no mention of what may be expected for middle schools.

FrippEnos · 11/05/2020 16:08

and just something for a laugh

FrippEnos · 11/05/2020 16:11

Sorry first video is how they are going back to in Shanghai

MossWalk · 11/05/2020 16:15

WTAF.

PerplexingWords · 11/05/2020 16:19

Some has kindly cut and pasted from the whole document on another thread.

“The Government’s ambition is for all primary school children to return to school before the summer for a month if feasible, though this will be kept under review.“

Piggywaspushed · 11/05/2020 16:21

ambition... if... feasible... review...

Confused Hmm

TheHoneyBadger · 11/05/2020 16:24

Guidance says masks optional and not suitable for those with respiratory issues which I presume includes me with asthma. Masks wouldn’t be to protect the wearer but the other people they’ in contact with. Kids won’t have to wear them meaning no protection for teachers unless we are going to sit behind a screen. Can’t see that

MossWalk · 11/05/2020 16:25

If you listen carefully, you can hear 'But I'm ENTITLED to one month of childcare' in the distance...

They'll be counting off the days to make sure each child gets thirty days Confused
