Gav calls for Silent Corridors - School Behaviour Squad Assembled

Gavin Williamson made a speech today praising strict schools that don’t let kids piss about in lessons (you’d think this’d be fairly standard, but, y’know, Dix) and have silent corridors.

A new £10 million behaviour task force is being assembled led by Tom Bennett and will work to tackle this on a national level. Not sure how this will have any more impact than his behaviour report that appeared to make fuck-all difference though.

What would be lovely is if he could say ‘centralised detentions are a non-negotiable to be implemented immediately’. But I suspect not.

NEU are not happy, obvs.

“The school’s behaviour policy, published online, includes walking in single file, being calm in corridors and bringing the correct equipment to each lesson.

It runs a consequence system based on five core standards, including punctuality, focus on learning and correct uniform.

The policy states teachers will “consider the student’s circumstances”, such as age and SEND needs, before “determining the consequence”.”

Which bit do you disagree with?

I hold my hands up. I used to think Katherine Birbalsingh was a crazy superstrict loon.

But having seen what she and her staff have achieved I now think she's got at least this bit very right.

Calm, quiet corridors eliminate almost entirely the corridor verbal and physical bullying.

They mean kids arrive calm to lesson and ready to learn.

This is surely a good thing?

High expectations for all, because we believe in them, because we want them to be successful in life (which means controlling impulses etc).

SEND is taken into consideration.
