Do you believe Charles Spencer that Charles Windsor said to him during a phone call "we'll forget her soon enough."

I'm laughing at the people who write 'you assumingly aren't old enough to remember'. Without even asking anyone's age.

I hope no one is trying to suggest that the awful abuse Charles Spencer suffered as a child somehow impairs his ability to remember an important phone call, one of two he held with Prince Charles in his entire life, or colours the reasons why he wants to defend his sister somehow, as that would be uncomfortably close to victim blaming (twice!) .

Interestingly, two journalists have now commented that Charles Spencer said something very similar to them, at the time or near the time of Diana's death.

One is Richard Kay of the Daily Mail, who talked to Spencer before the funeral (and says he almost certainly took notes of the conversations he had that week) and the other is a Times reporter who met Spencer a year after Diana's death.

This doesn't mean that what Spencer says is certainly true, of course. Only he and KC can know that.

I have no idea what the truth is. However I think he must be really embittered to bring it all up and out into the open again now. It was nearly 30 years ago, let her rest in peace and everyone else get on with their lives. I don’t see that any good can come of bringing all this up again, maybe had he bought the book out a year or two after the event, but at this stage it’s just destabilising and vengeful.

Oh maybe Charles Spencer told Charles - oh, no, how will her death be remembered, with a dodgy boyfriend, going to his apartment at night, involved with a family which head was refused British citizenship and every member of aristocracy avoids them like the plague - with Dodi's girlfriend saying that they were about to marry and he dropped her, etc. etc. Is this how my sister will be remembered? So maybe Charles said those sordid details will be forgotten? I have a relative who twists words in such a way that for a while some of her relatives doubted their sanity. Really evilly twisted.

Of course King Charles said it. Do any of you have divorced parents, where one died.

In -laws are not nice to each other after a death, from my experience. The arguments and battles continue.

Putting the book out when Harry was still around 12 would have been far worse .

I think Spencer has been remarkably restrained .

He has every right to say his piece .

My mum used to volunteer for various charities, to the outside she looked like a fabulous person.
When I was a kid she used to run boiling hot baths and make me get in them or be hit?

I'm so sorry you lived that life. It must have been so hard to see people admire her or view her in a positive light when you knew the truth.

Theres a huge amount of abuse going on. I think more children are abused than not abused tbh

However, other couples manage things amicably, and work it through. People have already said that C&D were getting on better towards the end of her life.

All of the divorced couples that I know - have bitter battles going on.

One of my male friends just texted me yesterday and said that he is going to court to try to get access to his children.

Can you provide a source of where a book/anyone says that charles and diana were getting on better?

It was from Diana herself. They used to have tea at KP and she was happy that the rancour had gone. This was after the divorce and she said that they were in a better place.

You can't just say it was from diana herself. In what book or news article was that written. You need to provide a source.

That is very sad. All of the divorced couples I know are dealing with things amicably and maturely for the sake of the children. Including my brother and sister in law. It can be done.

I would like to know what was behind Spencer’s eulogy at the funeral. Surely that didn’t come out of a trusting relationship? Out of a relationship in which Spencer believed his sister’s memory and his nephew’s were in good hands?

I'm not even surprised that King Charles said that about Diana.

He showed many times throughout his life that he didn't love Diana, felt forced into marrying her and was jealous of her.

I have sadly seen several men act this way. If their partner is more popular, more successful than them, they get jealous of her.
