Do you believe Charles Spencer that Charles Windsor said to him during a phone call "we'll forget her soon enough."

I do not believe that King Charles said that. He is a thoughtful and very considered man and highly unlikely to have uttered any negative comments about Diana after her death. It’s just not reflective of who the man is. He is actually a very kindly human being.

Oh come onnnnnn!

This is a man who married a woman just out of her teenaged years, while carrying on an adulterous affair with an older woman who was also married. He was never faithful to Diana Spencer, and his views of other people range from dismissive to despising his "subjects." For example, he has been publicly exposed as being discriminatory towards a black British woman in his employ. It's clear he despises most people and is far too concerned about their deference to his status.

Well he reckoned the late Queen had a "romantic connection" with his father when his father was an equerry.

She married when he was an equerry so tbh I'm not much inclined to believe anything he has written.

Settling scores, nearly 30 years on, which may hurt innocent parties, isn't great.
Plenty of people challenge KC. I've seen it in various newspapers, periodicals and tv programmes over the years. He is, quite rightly, not above criticism.
I personally enjoy the lampooning he gets in The Windsors, Private Eye and SNL!

You do know the Windsor's programme finished a few years ago? You obviously don't enjoy it that often if you don't realise that.
Private eye has a circulation of about 220k, it's tiny. Although I believe you that that is probably as much criticism as the king is happy with. A tiny specialist magazine.

Whereas this accusation is in the mainstream media a. The king won't li me that. The commoners are supposed to treat him like a living saint. Beyond all criticism.

Spencer claims he told family and friends at the time. Strange that not one of them has ever opened their mouths about it subsequently.

gratefulmezze · Today 10:15

I think Charles S & Harry are cut from the same cloth, riding the Diana wave for financial gain and for that reason I don't believe him.
I am also aware how emotionally charged people are when bereaved and people will misinterpret, take offence and overreact to anything when bereft with grief.
I also don't remember Charles S being particularly close to Diana (I might be wrong) but she seemed to keep her life very separate from him in adulthood.

Yes, I'm fully aware of when The Windsors finished.
No need to get personal or rude.
Neither KC, nor members of the RF are "living saints" (sic). That is patently obvious.

Some people will believe anything. Remember the very nasty way he talked about Nicholas witchell who was just doing his job.
And the statement he put out about Charles Spencer is snidy and mean.
He is clearly capable of being mean and snidy.

Honestly from what I remember of that time everyone was behaving badly leading up to and after her death. Everything was a public tit for tat.

I think both things can be true.
And the most calm considered person may crack under the pressure he felt at the time, obivously dad was ruling the roost with feed in from so many different areas and now dianas brother is kicking off and being difficult .

When we look at the pomp and entitled arrogance of andrew Mountbatten windows life , I don't think Charles would have been in many situations where he was trapped on all sides.
So yes ,I can totally see him loosing his rag.

Helenbelena · Today 10:19

Of course Charles was relieved when Diana was out of the picture. I believe Earl Spencer.

@Cathandkin I didn't claim the king was a living saint.
I said we the commoners are supposed to treat him like one. A man who will never publicly admit to any mistakes or say sorry once.

Diana said publicly she regretted the public war of the waleses and its impact on their children, and if she had her time again she would have handled it differently. Charles Windsor said nothing.

Instead anyone who relays any negative anecdotes about him is either crazy or confused. Even the most mild one over the years has been dismissed in this way.

So yes we are supposed to treat the king as a living saint and Diana as his crazy ex wife.

I know a man of similar but smaller scale well bred heritage and confidence. He killed
someone, accident but at fault. He would swan around hand waving and say things like “when this preposterous situation is over and things return to normal” “It’s been such a terrible a terrible time … for me”
Nothing about the person who had a tragic untimely death or their family, it was all about him and plans curtailed because he was awaiting trial.
I’ve also met the king. I believe it.
Name changed for obvious reasons!

Out of the picture married to someone else, or out of the picture following a shocking and violent death?.

TheDogsMother · Today 10:22

Why has this never come out before ? Charles Spencer has a book to flog and I’m sure all this publicity is working very well for him.

They were long divorced, they were getting on well, and he had two devastated children at home. Why would he be relieved?

If anything, he was likely to be pissed off about putting plans to marry Camilla on hold.

I don't believe Spencer at all - he's strapped for cash since the Diana acolytes stopped visiting her shrine, and he has yet another divorce to fund.

Joyunlimited · Today 10:24

OneLilacHedgehog · Today 10:09

Yep.
And notice how those defending the king keep mentioning harry. Because that's who they want us to fight about.
Not the king. He is supposed to be treated like a living saint, while anyone who says anything negative about him is just crazy.
People are noticing this modus operandi. Call everyone crazy, and then promote mental health charities.
It stinks.
Charles Windsor clearly said this, and his reaction is not to say I didn't say this. Instead it's to say you're crazy.

Your repeatedly using the word "clearly" doesn’t actually make it either clear or true!

Because it meant he could say anything he wanted about his marriage to Diana and their relationship after their divorce. There was no one to contradict him.

Not directly. But the pr campaign is that Diana was first to have an affair in their marriage.
Since Charles and Camilla got together on the eve of his wedding to Diana, then this is a preposterous lie.

Asset rich sure, but what money is he bringing in? You do have an inkling how much his Estate costs to maintain don't you?
