Do you believe Charles Spencer that Charles Windsor said to him during a phone call "we'll forget her soon enough."

"settling scores"
That's not a great modus operandi is it?

You think people should not be able to tell the truth?
Tell the truth and shame the devil as my grandmother used to say.

I believe Charles Spencer too.

Janiie · Today 09:52

'This book is about settling scores. And yes I believe him'

Did you believe his funeral sermon that he'd protect his blood family, meaning W&H? This will clearly devastate William. So he lied at the funeral, he isnt protecting them at all. If he lied then he can easily lie now.

Intelligent people like CS don't 'settle scores' like this in such a tacky manner. Who does he think he is a reality show star?

I believe Charles Spencer too.

That's fine, but my point is that it's not that simple, which is why I referred to the many comments on here.
Good Charles/ Bad Charles.... maybe it's not that simple.

You have a magical way of knowing when someone is "clearly telling the truth"? Gosh.

She does indeed - she’s not so good at identifying the same woman in photos taken seconds apart - but she had to maintain a ridiculous fiction to try to score points against William and Kate (cf inappropriate photo thread on the RF board)

Ronaldos · Today 09:57

At the time of her death. The press and public were turning against her.

OneLilacHedgehog · Today 09:57

@Janiie so protecting people means accepting the king can lie and you as a rich commoner says nothing? You just let the king claim your sister was a crazy ex wife and you were a devoted husband and ex husband?

Honestly it's so toxic. Don't speak the truth because you will upset grown men with the truth. Instead let the king besmirch the memory of your sister and tell lies.

That's basically what you are saying

If you write what is potentially going to be a best seller, then your literary agent will make the best deal possible to get it serialised in a prominent newspaper or on-line media outlet. That is absolutely standard marketing practice. Charles Spencer won’t have had much choice over where the book was serialised, it would have all been arranged by his publisher and agent.

Edited

The book is Charles Spencer's intellectual property. How could he not have a say in where his work would be serialised?

TilerSwift · Today 09:58

He’s got a book to sell. Mmm whats that saying, never let the truth get in the way of a good story

This is another lie. One put out by the kings pr.
They were racist about dodi. And the right wing thought her land mine campaign was too political.
But she was incredibly popular

Kind?? It was snidy and nasty and not once says I did not say that.
It basically says earl Spencer was a bit crazy because of grief. Whilst the king was clear headed.

It's the usual playbook from the palace. Everyone else who does not think they are wonderful is simply crazy.

Agreed.

You're right. Her death did not benefit either CW or the rest of the RF. In fact it negatively impacted them.

pizzaHeart · Today 10:02

Maybe he’s said that but words out of context often sounds different and worse so I won’t care much about this “recollection” .

And tbh the whole book affair looks like opportunity to get money out of Diana’s image and all these recollections look like ways of attracting attention to the book.

He said he would protect W&H. This will be causing W great pain. It is gossip, it is all tittle tattle, unsubstantiated claims about what KC allegedly said.

He is a pathetic man, just like Harry. Behaving like the paps that they both purport to hate.

Sadcafe · Today 10:03

If he said Charles was upset about her death , it wouldn’t sell his book would it

Settling scores is a very good modus operandi if you're dealing with a machine that churns out lies on a regular basis to make it look as if people who arent nice are actually wonderful and we should all kowtow and doff our caps to them.

"settling scores"

Why not? He has some interesting stories to tell.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

And both of CS’s parents died aged at sixty-eight so he felt time was running out and he also got in ahead of other books likely to be written ahead of the 30th anniversary of his sister’s death.

All legitimate reasons imho. He had a unique insight and access to the actual events.

And let’s face it, Charles Spencer is one of the few people in the UK who is rich enough and aristocratic enough to stand up to the King and actually challenge him and isn’t worried about gongs or being black-listed in some way and now he has come forward, let’s see who else is brave and what else emerges.,, ,

Just to add, the conspiracy theories about Diana's death partly arose because everyone could see how her death benefitted Charles Windsor.
Suddenly he could claim Diana said all sorts of things to him, and no one could contradict him.

The campaign to paint her as a crazy ex wife stepped up a notch.
Now the king is trying to paint her brother as crazy with grief.
Crazy, their favourite accusation to discredit people

Spot on.

Jessbow · Today 10:05

Why now? Yes to get readers for his new book, but I truly believe that if it was the truth, Charles Spencer would have spouted it long before now.

Why keep a comment so damming under your hat for so long?

Harry & Meghan are not getting their way...Are Harry/Megan & His uncle colluding to knock the royal family down ( father or not). I do think Harry/Meghan are part of it

Settling scores, nearly 30 years on, which may hurt innocent parties, isn't great.
Plenty of people challenge KC. I've seen it in various newspapers, periodicals and tv programmes over the years. He is, quite rightly, not above criticism.
I personally enjoy the lampooning he gets in The Windsors, Private Eye and SNL!

damnatiomemoriae · Today 10:08

I am inclined not to believe CS.

He sounds as though he is speaking from bitterness and that clouds judgement. And recollections. See Harry.

Still, whichever one of them of them has made a mistake, I would expect them to own it as that is what decent people do eh?

Yep.
And notice how those defending the king keep mentioning harry. Because that's who they want us to fight about.
Not the king. He is supposed to be treated like a living saint, while anyone who says anything negative about him is just crazy.
People are noticing this modus operandi. Call everyone crazy, and then promote mental health charities.
It stinks.
Charles Windsor clearly said this, and his reaction is not to say I didn't say this. Instead it's to say you're crazy.

Protection comes in different guises.

Perhaps William may not recognise it as such right now, but getting to the nub of what actually happened in those difficult days, and talking about them frankly, and being able to ask questions of his father before it’s too late, might open up some interesting insights for him?

By all accounts William has a difficult relationship with his father anyway.

Pedant61 · Today 10:09

Not entirely. I think that 2 angry, stressed, bereaved men probably had a humdinger of a row and things were said that may have been misinterpreted. We can't judge either of them for that.
What I do judge is Earl Spencer trading on his late sister for money, and criticising the King for his marital failure, when Spencer's own track record is pretty horrific. Being po-faced now is not a good look. And for all he said he wanted to protect his nephews, does he have any thought for them now, especially for William?
