Do you believe Charles Spencer that Charles Windsor said to him during a phone call "we'll forget her soon enough."

I can't believe the media are reporting that Spencer said he 'was telling the truth'. Well he would say that wouldn't he!

Someone ask him was he also telling the truth when he pledged never to make money off Diana's death and to protect his 'blood family' becaue it's not looking good on either front..

He's a nasty man, damaged from being brought up in such a fucked up family.

Harry has clearly inherited the Spencer backstabbing gene. What fun their get togethers must be, both hissing and ranting about made up slights. I'd give Spencer's recent marriage months. If that.

chickenpotnoodle · Today 09:37

No - he's skint and has ex-wives and an estate to run - I remember KC face from the news - he was devastated - nothing good is going to come from this book.

Jamtomorrowneverjamtoday · Today 09:38

I think he said it.

also think it’s forgivable

please say and do very weird things in grief and anger. He was under huge stress.

I don't know. i don't think any of us can know.
It's painful to have a family member publicly divulge private conversations from 29 yrs ago said in shock and grief . i feel sorry for them all.
I lost my husband aged 48 yrs and a relative said to other family members i didn't look sad at the funeral and said i looked like the "merry widow",he also said i said "ill get over it".
It was devastating ,but the truth is i was in shock and can't remember exactly what i did or said that day. I think i said "all things pass" meaning the intense agony will abate. it has but i've never gotten over it and i never expected to.
People in grief say strange things and recollection ,particularly in stress do vary.

I remember the atmosphere during the period between Diana's death and her funeral was really odd, with people being prepared to attack others physically if they dared to suggest they weren't grieving deeply, and publicly saying things like "I'm more upset about Diana than I was about the death of my mother". But after the funeral it was like that had been a catharsis - everyone took a deep breath, and went back to normal.

So if this conversation happened at all, I suspect it was along the lines that Charles expected the mass hysteria around Diana's death to die down, in which he was absolutely right. Spencer has chosen to twist it for his own purposes.

I agree and said that in my other posts. If the King said anything along those lines it would have been about the awful public hysteria, not his own feelings.

BeardofHagrid · Today 09:40

I mean it’s possible, but I don’t know the context of the remark.

Maybe CS said, “She is going to haunt you until your dying day.”

Then PC: “Rest assured, we will forget her soon enough.”

If it was said like that, it’s not so bad tbh. Remember how deep the shock must have been.

Elsieandme · Today 09:40

i believe him as much as I believe the other Charles not quite denial .

My sympathies lie solely with William. Yes awful for KC to have allegations all over the media but he's faced worse over the years.

snowmichael · Today 09:41

I believe he believes it
But he does have a lot invested, emotionally and financially, in the 'Saint Diana' myth

Chatterlyssecret · Today 09:41

The marriage was always a sham, he was with Camilla at every opportunity he could get his leg over.

He did need to go with them - for his own public image.

But he didn’t. I didn’t expect him to. They were divorced. No one would have thought anything amiss if he’d stayed here with his sons.

Charles Spencer has an estimated £40 million in liquid assets.
He has a world class art collection and has sold some of it off when he needed to raise money in the past. The sale of a few pictures could bring in what this book will raise.
He is a very rich man.
This book is about settling scores. And yes I believe him.

I disagree, I thought it was very kind and quite measured. However, very clear.

The king never actually says I did not say that. It's the kind of fudge you would write if you did say it and didn't want to lie.

Charles Spencer clearly came across as telling the truth when being interviewed by Laura kunnesberg. It was not a gentle interview. He is clearly telling the truth. A truth the king hoped the public would never hear.

Obviously you'll have some way of distinguishing between someone who just sounds intelligent and someone who is. So if you're going to be assuring us on here that he's intelligent, you'll be able to explain what that is and link to the interviews.

Why. I dont have to. I've heard him speak and that's good enough for me.

I don't particularly want to join in the 'madness of crowds' hysterical witch hunt over what someone said regarding his ex-wife's sudden death in the face of intense public and press scrutiny, based on what someone with a book to flog has said, no.

"settling scores"
That's not a great modus operandi is it?

Kind?? It was snidy and nasty and not once says I did not say that.
It basically says earl Spencer was a bit crazy because of grief. Whilst the king was clear headed.

It's the usual playbook from the palace. Everyone else who does not think they are wonderful is simply crazy.

You have a magical way of knowing when someone is "clearly telling the truth"? Gosh.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · Today 09:51

No, for all the reasons that @IsItSnowing and other pp's have so eloquently put.

And I am far from some ardent royalist for whom none of them can do any wrong. I've no doubt Charles has faults and plenty of them, but I don't buy this. And I judge Spencer harshly for using his nephews dead mother as a money spinner.

No, it's about what they believe to be the most plausible explanation. There are many measured and considered responses on here, not necessarily blindly on "one side".
