Breaking news in the Daily Mail. Duke and Duchess of Sussex's children 'removed from school after two days' mol.im/a/16130877 via https://dailym.ai/android

I do wonder if there is actually any school that will be able to meet their expectations in regard to security. I'm interested to see how it all plays out.

However, I expect the extent of the problem requires local knowledge - and it doesn't seem like they either had time or opportunity to seek that.

A look on Google Earth/Street View would show the road layout. I look at Street View if I'm going somewhere I haven't been before, why wouldn't a professional security person?

I understand that a look on Google street view is exactly how the paps figured out where they were living after M posted a video on her instagram… it’s now common knowledge apparently.

What sort of parents don't factor in school traffic, what will they do when the next school have exactly the same problem, perhaps they should have thought about this before they moved. Why don't they move nearer the family if they really want to make amends, what connection do they have in the cotswolds?

BruFord · Yesterday 13:47

Lomonald · Yesterday 13:37

I suspect the RF and staff kept Harry's personality and behaviour under wraps.

@Lomonald Didn't Harry say that William advised him to slow down and not move too quickly with the relationship?

I think that's what it boils down to, they rushed ahead without really knowing each other well enough/what their lifestyles entailed. She wasn't suited to dull royal life, and he didn't fit well into making a living in California. If they stop making rushed decisions and think things through, they might find a good fit.
And stop blaming everyone else for everything!

Noseyoldcow · Yesterday 13:49

Even the doziest security would have sussed the “difficulties” with the school run, so I think there is another reason for the change of schools. Someone asked Lillibet why she has such a stupid name?

I never suggested his fears of the press were rational but ime it is not unknown for photographers to stand outside the entrance of a school if they know higher profile/celebrity families are attending.

Really? Can you think of any recent examples where the children of celebrities have been photographed coming and going from school? Certainly no British publication would look at them, so it would seem a pretty poor use of a photographer's time.

In any case, photographers may be unpleasant and intrusive but are not in themselves a security threat requiring taxpayer funded protection.

I’ve seen it happen, as part of a reality tv series. The celeb concerned had to be reminded that the school was private property and media were not welcome within the gates. That would not apply to H and M circumstances though.

If they did the same as the Wales’ by allowing one starting school pic of the children they might stand a better chance of some “normality” and the fuss dying down, although not sure that is what H and M actually want.

Highgrove House , the Kings private home, is in the Cotswolds near Tetbury. Anne and all of her family live at Gatcombe also in the Cotswolds, Althorp is in Northamptonshire just outside the Cotswolds.

Yes wasn’t it Prince Edward’s documentary team who tried to breach William’s privacy at St Andrew’s? Unbelievable really when you think about it. I believe there was a privacy agreement in place with the press at the time too!

Katiesaidthat · Yesterday 13:54

Perhaps the school they preferred didn´t have space and now it does. I was at a school for 2 months until my parents´preferred school opened. Not scarred for life or anything.

Right. So the 'celeb' invited the photographers. Not at all the same dynamic.

And no, they shouldn't do a 'first day at school' photo. The Wales children are a future king and his siblings. The Sussex children are closer to the level of the York sisters' children. A 'first day at school' photo would be totally OTT. And the 'fuss' has been entirely of the Sussexes' own making. I'm sure the press know where they are at school but would never release that information, nor chase them for photographs. Archie and Lili could have a lovely normal life. But that's not what Harry and Meghan want for them.

They want to be William and Kate or as close to being them as they can get.

Yes i agree, i said a few pages ago they need to just calm the feck down, take a breath and make a considered decision.

How did they get places at said new school though? Apparently they didn’t come back until they were sure that they could get places at the school they have now left because, security, but have somehow miraculously found another one in two days 🤔

I don't see how your question is relevant to my comment.

Poor children. Pawns in their parents silly games.

Beatrice and Eugenie are in their late 30s - a better comparison would be the children of the Edinburghs, (grandchildren / niece and nephew of the monarch like A+L), the younger of whom finished school a couple of months ago. No, they didn't have police protection when they went to school.

Their parents are working royals though, so perhaps an even better comparison would be the children of Peter Phillips and Zara, whose parents like Harry are minor non-working royals. They don't have police protection at school either.

I used to live 2 minutes away from Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall when Zara was the grandchild of the monarch (i.e. the same situation as Archie and Lilibet now).

They may have had some security, but it certainly wasn't obvious. Zara would drive her Range Rover alone; you'd see her food shopping without a bodyguard; and if you wanted to you could walk right up to their front door as it wasn't behind a gated complex or anything.

Harry and Meghan could easily have had the same lifestyle for their children. All they had to do was refuse titles for them and not give any interviews to the press or publish any autobiographies. The omnishambles they are in is of their own making.

MurphysColeslaw · Yesterday 14:19

Omnishambles 😁 that’s a blast from the past

Why have they chosen to compromise the security and privacy of their young children by briefing the general public on the logistical details of their childrens morning routine?

Why have they proactively gone to the media with this information - why do they believe the general public need to know this information about their private lives?

Have they? Where? How do pp know which school they’ve just taken their kids away from?

I wouldn’t be eager to make up with a family member who had repeatedly bad mouthed me to the press.
Good on William for protecting himself and his family.

I definitely understand that, but from Harry’s pov , he had been repeatedly badmouthed to the press for years to make other members of the RF look good.

I have listened to a few sensible unbiased non-fawning Royal commentators describe Mark Bolland’s tactics, who was brought in to rehabilitate Camilla’s image, for example, as a little “over the top” or words to that effect. And they were using understatement in most incidences. I think Edward got caught up in that too. The strategy was remarkably effective though.

And Harry felt that when he got drunk and fell out of nightclubs that the press documented it all, but much less so in the case of the heir.

I don’t think that is an outlandish or unreasonable viewpoint to hold.

I’m not saying that it is William’s fault either. The brothers are both victims of their circumstances. Such a shame they can’t be there for one another.

Also it wasn’t wise or sensible on Harry’s part to complain about it when he is so privileged. It was totally naïeve to think anyone would care! I understand why he did though as it must really rankle after a while.

Years of being treated differently to your brother by at least one parent and your grandparents, aunts and uncles and friends must be tough. It’s the system that produces these problems. Hereditary monarchy produces an in-built golden child in every generation. If it hurts in ordinary family circumstances, why wouldn’t it hurt five times as much with the world watching and when status and vast sums of money are involved?

The counter-side to that is that the spare has more freedom supposedly but maybe Meghan was bright enough to point out that if ultimately your income and your itinerary is set by your sibling, that “freedom” is somewhat illusory.

If we have to put up with an hereditary monarchy then I hope someone sensible will in future realise that setting up separate offices that brief against one another is not the way to do it.

Essentially they are moaning about being stuck in traffic. Why are they above sitting in a traffic jam? Are they expecting their dcs to be driven on blue lights?!

AlexandraCarrington · Yesterday 14:39

Doesn't matter how many blue lights you have in narrow urban streets or country lanes - the other vehicles can't get out of the way because there's nowhere for them to go!

The most horrific part is that it actually feels like M&H are using their children as human shields and waiting for something to happen so they can blackmail the RF into providing security.

its almost as though they have realised that no one really gives a toss about HAM ( remember the infamous car chase through the streets of New York , from their description it was like the car chase from the film French Connection without the nun, but it turned out to be nothing of the sort, and not even a car chase, just cars driving in the same direction)) but if their kids are at risk they reckon we will all fork out for protection, forgetting of course that any threat to their children is most likely a direct result of their own desperate need for publicity and column inches.

Harry was not "badmouthed to the press" to make the rest of them look good! 🤣
That's totally a Harry invention.
Interestingly, based on Spare and all the other over sharing, Harry was actually protected by them. We only found out what a nasty, devious, selfish, entitled greedy man he was after he quit the RF.
They did a good job protecting him.

Why do you find them exhausting and frustrating though? If you were to take a step sideways and see them as glorified soap-opera stars (who you'll never meet and who don't care a fig about you), then you might just find them mildly entertaining instead. Dipping in and out of these threads is enough for me tbh.

I guess for the same reason that I don’t watch soap operas. I find endless drama wearying rather than entertaining

well if there’s a credible assassination threat against them, sitting for prolonged periods in traffic is a high risk situation. And as someone who used to live in Oxford, sitting in non moving traffic is a regular if not daily occurrence.

I don't see how your question is relevant to my comment.

Because of the amount of obfuscation about when they arrived and how they were waiting for a place at the specific school that is now deemed unsafe, but now they have miraculously segued the children in to another school which must preside as good as the one they have left. I was musing over that. But ti answer your comment more directly, it isn’t childish to wonder why this school didn’t meet their needs security wise and if their security had done due diligence, and what would be different about another school because there will be school run traffic everywhere in which to get a convoy stuck

The therapy he advises isn't working then? Also given his genuine fears, why did he return to UK when he was so happy and free in the US? What's so important here. If they want to travel more in Europe as it was implied they would have done better moving to Portugal. They already have a home there and its a short hope to UK and many European countries.

Why did they come back? Does anyone know the real reason? It all seemed to be in such a rush after he lost the court case.

After their separate slagging off of all things Brit, they have some neck, I'll give them that!
