Breaking news in the Daily Mail. Duke and Duchess of Sussex's children 'removed from school after two days' mol.im/a/16130877 via https://dailym.ai/android

I do wonder if there is actually any school that will be able to meet their expectations in regard to security. I'm interested to see how it all plays out.

well if there’s a credible assassination threat against them, sitting for prolonged periods in traffic is a high risk situation. And as someone who used to live in Oxford, sitting in non moving traffic is a regular if not daily occurrence.

"if there’s a credible assassination threat against them" they'd be advised to stay at home or would be getting police security. Not trying to get through country lanes in a 'convoy' driven by 'security' staff who apparently didn't cop on that traffic might be heavier on a school day than out of term.

I hardly think H had chronic drug use wasn’t it just weed back in his uni days ?

Harry went to university???
I thought he went straight from school to Sandhurst?
(There may be drug usage at Sandhurst but I would think it far less than at a UK university…. You’d be kicked out immediately for starters.)

All the medical evidence is that she would have survived if she had been wearing a seatbelt.

Yes, such a shame Diana was negligent in her choice not to wear one. Accident wouldn't haven't involved her at all if she hadn't got in the car with a drunk driver at the wheel, and she would not have done that if she'd had security to watch out for her safety at all times.

I think there is the likelihood that the access routes to and from that specific school would present a risk. The job of their security team is to imagine the worst case scenario and map out their response. If one of the children was to be targeted - entering or exiting the car, or while stationary in traffic - or if the children needed to be extracted at speed as the result of a confirmed threat, could it be done safely and with a limited risk to the public? Could they get those cars out fast - and could the emergency services arrive at speed. Knowing that part of town - narrow roads - many one-way, densely populated, tree cover, at least three large schools in close proximity and severe congestion - emergency extraction by vehicle at certain times of the day would be slow. I don't know their California setup, but I'm guessing that the winding backstreets of Oxford present a different logistical challenge!

Isn’t this a bit of an extreme scenario for two kids of celebrity parents ?

Kate and William managed the George and Charlotte school run from Kensington to Battersea for several terms (25 minutes for 3 miles) without incident

OK they did not drop the kids off every day but they were there a LOT

H&M are just attention seeking

tartyflette · Yesterday 15:04

Diana did have a security person with her when she died. He sat in the front seat, wore a seatbelt and survived the crash, although he was very seriously injured.

I definitely understand that, but from Harry’s pov , he had been repeatedly badmouthed to the press for years to make other members of the RF look good.

I have listened to a few sensible unbiased non-fawning Royal commentators describe Mark Bolland’s tactics, who was brought in to rehabilitate Camilla’s image, for example, as a little “over the top” or words to that effect. And they were using understatement in most incidences. I think Edward got caught up in that too. The strategy was remarkably effective though.

And Harry felt that when he got drunk and fell out of nightclubs that the press documented it all, but much less so in the case of the heir.

I don’t think that is an outlandish or unreasonable viewpoint to hold.

I’m not saying that it is William’s fault either. The brothers are both victims of their circumstances. Such a shame they can’t be there for one another.

Also it wasn’t wise or sensible on Harry’s part to complain about it when he is so privileged. It was totally naïeve to think anyone would care! I understand why he did though as it must really rankle after a while.

Years of being treated differently to your brother by at least one parent and your grandparents, aunts and uncles and friends must be tough. It’s the system that produces these problems. Hereditary monarchy produces an in-built golden child in every generation. If it hurts in ordinary family circumstances, why wouldn’t it hurt five times as much with the world watching and when status and vast sums of money are involved?

The counter-side to that is that the spare has more freedom supposedly but maybe Meghan was bright enough to point out that if ultimately your income and your itinerary is set by your sibling, that “freedom” is somewhat illusory.

If we have to put up with an hereditary monarchy then I hope someone sensible will in future realise that setting up separate offices that brief against one another is not the way to do it.

Harry’s point of view?
really doesn’t make much of a defence now we all know he tells lies , can’t remember hanging around with journalists and basically briefing them himself!
here’s a thought! , if he didn’t want to be reported on falling out of clubs drunk and other stupid behaviour, don’t do it!

Well she had the Al Fayed security, but the decision to get in the car was her's and Dodi's. They were safe in their suite at the Ritz.

This whole thing has been a farce. At the beginning they pre-announced their return back home and there were press reports of them landing. They could have been far more discrete about that and could have probably settled the kids into school without anyone really realising. Then posting pictures of their location etc. I don’t think they’re Machiavellian enough to have done this on purpose- I just think they attract drama and do some stupid stuff.

I do feel a bit sad for them because they could have genuinely disappeared off and lived lives quietly in the states or somewhere else but that wasn’t enough and they opened their mouths to court controversy, do the Netflix stuff etc. I think after a few years of them going to ground, they’d have been left alone. Some of this circus now is very much of their own making.

All of the circus is of their own making. Massive egos on the pair of them.

True! Plus - dear god - the stuff he's shared since! There was nothing that the RF could possibly have said that's as bad as that.
What a vile man he's turned out to be, and we had no idea! The RF had us convinced he was a congenial chap!

its almost as though they have realised that no one really gives a toss about HAM ( remember the infamous car chase through the streets of New York , from their description it was like the car chase from the film French Connection without the nun, but it turned out to be nothing of the sort, and not even a car chase, just cars driving in the same direction)) but if their kids are at risk they reckon we will all fork out for protection, forgetting of course that any threat to their children is most likely a direct result of their own desperate need for publicity and column inches.

I think that’s exactly what’s going on. Even the HAMS have probably twigged that the British public doesn’t really care about their antics - so they need to elicit concern for their children.

I’m concerned for their children, but not in the way they probably want!

Harry was not "badmouthed to the press" to make the rest of them look good! 🤣
That's totally a Harry invention.
Interestingly, based on Spare and all the other over sharing, Harry was actually protected by them. We only found out what a nasty, devious, selfish, entitled greedy man he was after he quit the RF.
They did a good job protecting him.

Yes, one of many Harry inventions. I’m surprised posters still insist on bringing this up as if it’s a fact.

PH still managing to pull the wool over some peoples eyes.

And this is why they are somewhat less than popular.
I suspect that people who more or less couldn’t give a flying fart about them previously now find them rather unappealing.
In other words, neutral opinions turned into unfavorable ones.

All they have to do is look at Harry's own accounts. He's far worse than we ever realised.
I think it's hard for his supporters to grasp that. For some reason.

He worked for Mohammed Fayed. She had rejected royal security.

It’s never been established whether this man knew how much Henri Paul had drunk. Dodi pulled Paul out of the Ritz bar (he was off duty) and persuaded him to race back to their house in the Bois de Boulogne.

There are even negative comments now on Celebitchy! Mainly anti-Harry and critical of their comms , but some exasperation at M too. They can’t fathom what their game is, coming back to Salty Isle to be humiliated.

Well quite! The old rf briefing against Harry and such is an empty nonsense now , that no longer works.
we now know exactly who was leaking and briefing the media!
he even has a WhatsApp group with journalists now for instant leaking!!
such a liar and hypocrite.

Yes, that's the tragedy that it ultimately came down to their decision to dispense with security, which likely would have saved them.

Imdunfer · Yesterday 15:18

May have been posted already but according to the Mail A&L are already at their new school and H&M already in the parents WhatsApp group.

Which only goes to show what pathetic planning they did before suddenly upping sticks and moving here.

Those poor children.

Quite! As if anything the RF could say would be worse than what he admitted to. They looked after and protected him. Empty nonsense, as you say.
The RF have been dignified in the face of his appalling behaviour in the last six years.

He is just awful.

It’s a low bar if that’s the type of man you choose to side with.

PinkMagpie · Yesterday 15:26

There is one detail about Harry that Charlotte Griffiths (Daily Mail journalist) gave that has really stuck with me. He shoved an unidentified pill in her mouth to test if he could ‘trust’ her. That is assault and so dangerous

I'm not familiar with the back streets of Oxford ( or any roads in the vicinity of Montecito) either!
Maybe someone could enlighten me, but the last thing I read about M & H's paid- by -them security detail, he had brought them with him from the US?
Not that that excuses them from not proactively studying the logistics of getting their protectees safely to school, under any and all circumstances.

There is no way to the Dragon School that doesn't involve ending up in the inevitable massive private school traffic jam. Oxford is almost an island so the rat-run routes are very limited due to bits of river getting in the way.
