If titles are removed, Meg is gone. However, RF will take H in, as a family member. He can't survive on his own. It may be the best thing for him in the long run

H&M potentially splitting up may be one of the reasons the RF are reluctant to make any moves on removing Harry and the kids titles, because if either one ditches the other, Harry may suddenly be very contrite and will be brought back into the fold and eventually a working Royal again.

If that point ever does come, you would hope he will have realised a Rival Royal family court will have been as futile as their efforts to make it in the US.

I doubt there'll be anything controversial in it, StartupRepair - I think (?) it was said the RF had provided her with her new home after the Queen died and surely there'll be an NDA attached?

Thanks once again for the new thread, @jeffgoldblum. I'm still trying to catch up, but a question ... does anyone actually know if Meghan's in the UK?
It's said she was seen at Soho House, but that sounds to me like gossip and I wondered if there's anything firm

Angela Kelly was actually treated very shoddily by the RF following the Queens death. They couldn’t wait to give her the bums rush and apart from the house she was given she was very much persona non grata almost immediately following the Queens passing. It’s well documented and I think it was a very good indication of how people within the family were jealous of her relationship with the Queen.

Finally catching up after my morning engagement.

in the spirit of the thread I will share that I have been part of a small team executing the corporate facelift of a much beloved British enedeavour. (Decorating the office)

This evening I shall be volunteering in a local
kitchen to feed the community. (Cooking a roast and the neighbours are coming)

I find myself in a HAM catch 22. I both wish they’d just SHUT UP and desperate to read what come out of their faces next 🤣

100% There really is nothing for her here…

I don’t think the Palace even meant for the letter to have such an impact, but… It’s the timing. Before they’ve even established themselves back in Blighty, H&M have been given a massive two finger by the RF.

The papers (DM!) have gone mad with it, a real PR disaster. But what did they expect? I read this morning that they haven’t got much coming up before Christmas. Meghan had expectations of wealth, but reality bites!

BasiliskStare · 13/09/2026 13:30

Well just to add , I have been to stay for a week at my mother's house. Does that count as a private engagement I can publicise? It was more than 50 minutes with tea and cake . OK , fair play my mother is not the King - I don't think I'm breaking any press embargo by saying that 😂

I think the whole brouhaha about H&M will die down over the next few months if they return to Montecito for Christmas . That takes out any nonsense about being invite to C's carol concert , Sandringham church walk etc. But we shall see. Personally I think they have arrived in a flurry of sound and fury & people are going to get a bit bored of it. And the WRF will , ( maybe with some gritted teeth ) just get on with stuff , knowing that time and history is on their side. I'm not sure H&M have taken the opportunity of moving back to the UK and reinventing themselves awfully well. Time will tell.

PS @PleasantGreenPorcupine I think I read once - I will have to google it , but I have in mind a Dimbleby or one of the long serving place staff saying they knew of no-one so "colour blind" as the Queen. This was decades ago so the phrasing may not be the happiest.

Where Harry and Meghan are concerned, whenever I read "an insider" I imagine it is one of the two of them.

'Sources close to...'

I think the problem is that the removal of titles would need to be total. Letters patent supported by parliament can make him plain Harry Windsor. He would no longer be a Prince or a Duke. That way, his wife cant call herself either a Duchess or Princess and then their children are just plain Archie and Lily.
I agree with you. Its a straightforward thing so Charles just needs to get on with it.

If it requires action by parliament, then it's not that straightforward. The King can't just tell parliament what to do. Some might argue that parliament isn't there to sort out the King's family squabbles.

When does it cease to be a family affair, which is not a matter for parliament, and become a constitutional issue, on which the King must act on the advice of his Prime Minister, and what advice is the Prime Minister giving him (which we won't know, of course)?

For clarity, the King can remove the style of HRH and the title of Prince by Letters Patent, as he has done for AMW.

Remove of the title of Duke would take an Act of Parliament, for historical reasons.
This has currently been managed for AMW by removing his name from the Roll of the Peerage, which means that the title is not officially used, but it still remains.
There was some move towards introducing an act which would have removed Mandelson's title, and presumably would also have made removal of AMW's Dukedom easier, but that seems to have stalled.

Yes, Princess Anne seems particularly good at it, and W and C aren't bad either.

QE was excellent too (and yes, I know they're briefed ,but you have to take it in, which HAM don't seem to).

I remember a tv programme about the Prince's/King's Trust. At a reception at BP, Charles remembered two brothers from thirty years before. Yes, he would have been briefed, but he made it seen very natural, and the brothers were so pleased. QEQM apparently also used to remember when she'd previously met someone.

Camilla always seems really engaged and interested too. And most people do have something interesting to say when you get talking to them. I've had some very interesting chats with people while waiting for a bus!

Meghan isn’t happy, she thought they would be hounding them and taking pap photos and she doesn’t understand why it’s not happening!

H has seriously pissed off the Daily Mail. This is revenge.

TheRealHousewife · 13/09/2026 13:33

Phew … Pleased to say I’m happy to have found you all! @jeffgoldblumThank you for the new thread x.

I asked Grok Ai on his thoughts about the chaos that follows HaM and if it would have any real impact on our beloved Monarchy.

Here’s what it said:-

Good morning, darling. I can hear the worry in that — the family soap opera never really switched off, and this latest chapter is noisy.
What actually happened is this. After Harry and Meghan moved back to Britain last month with the children, the Palace sent a letter (via the Lord Chamberlain, on the King’s instruction) to government departments, the military and Lord-Lieutenants. It restated the 2020 Sandringham settlement in plain language: they stepped down from representative duties, they are not working members of the Royal Family, the HRH styles remain unused, and any charity or commercial work they do is private. In short, treat them as private citizens. bbc.co.uk
Sources close to the couple have now said they no longer feel bound by that deal — they distinguish “the late Queen’s personal values” from institutional rules, they still see themselves as public figures (or even “working royals who no longer work for the institution”), and they intend to announce UK engagements. That’s the “ripping up” you’re seeing in the papers this weekend. express.co.uk
Could they do real harm to the monarchy?
They can cause irritation, mixed messaging and another round of headlines. They cannot, on their own, dismantle the institution.
The risks that matter are practical rather than existential:
• Role confusion — people (and officials) not knowing whether an event is “royal” or just celebrity charity work.
• Political or commercial comments that sit badly with the Crown’s required neutrality.
• Fresh family tension, especially with William, which always leaks and looks undignified.
• A media circus that drowns out the working royals’ actual work.
The British public’s view, from recent polling, is not particularly welcoming of a return to official roles. Most people seem content with the current, slimmer working family. The monarchy’s strength now rests more on Charles, William, Catherine and the next generation than on whether two non-working members stay inside every protocol box.
What the Palace can do to keep disruption low
They’re already doing the most useful thing: being explicit. The letter was a pre-emptive clarification so no one in official Britain has to guess. Other sensible steps:
• Keep treating them consistently as private citizens — no official transport, no taxpayer-funded security upgrades, no royal protocol unless the King personally decides otherwise.
• Let working royals get on with their diaries without being drawn into comparisons or rebuttals.
• Direct any protocol questions back to Buckingham Palace rather than leaving local officials to improvise.
• Avoid public tit-for-tat. Silence plus consistency usually works better than another statement war.
• If titles or branding are misused in a way that implies official representation, there are legal and commercial levers (they’ve been used before).
The Crown has survived far messier family dramas than this. A couple who have already left the payroll and the official diary can generate headlines; they cannot rewrite the constitution or the line of succession. The Palace’s best defence is the same one it used in 2020: draw a clean line, stick to it, and let the working family carry the institution.
You’re allowed to find the whole thing wearing. Most people watching from the outside do. xx

Yes, my sister has done several close quarter gigs for him (apparently the whole family had to be top level vetted including DPs) and as he played the same instrument as her, and she does outreach work near one of his many houses. He always remembers her and asks how that's going, even if it's not related to the event in question. She likes him a lot, and says he's very funny in person.

In the event of any separation, I would expect that Harry would return to the family fold if contrite.
I would not expect him to be a working royal again, for the reasons I mentioned on the other thread -

Harry has repeatedly, publicly, attacked the Head of State and accused him of overstepping his constitutional boundaries.
He has repeatedly attempted to pressurise HM Government and independent professional committees.
He has repeatedly maligned HM Courts and recently personally vilified one of HM independent judges.
That is why he cannot be a working royal.

A golden opportunity to reinvent themselves, but I’m not even sure the move was particularly well-planned. Neither was Megxit… Buying the house in Montecito was a rash move, too. It’s seems to be what they do (relying on wealthy “friends” just look where it got Fergie & Andy…)

MrsLeonFarrell · 13/09/2026 13:41

Serenster · 13/09/2026 10:10

It also shows one of their big problems as far as I see it (disclaimer: not a PR expert) - they always appear obsessed with tactics, not strategy. As in “What will get me top of the next news cycle” rather than “What will make me a person of global interest in the long term”.

When you are fighting a rhino that does indeed plan and act long term, and when also you need to think about setting up a secure financial future for at least the next 20 years, that seems unwise.

That's a really good point. Nothing they have done so far is looking to the long term. Everything the monarchy does has long term in mind.

👋 puzzled , honestly nothing further, it’s been reported that she was spotted twice at soho house and according to rumours and Neil Sean , she is here and the media knows where they are but are not reporting on their whereabouts, if true it seems like an almost comical punishment for someone so obsessed with publicity!
oh I should mention he went on to say …Meghan isn’t happy, she thought they would be hounding them and taking pap photos and she doesn’t understand why it’s not happening!
im hoping this is true! 😁

Thanks, jeff; I was vaguely aware of the alleged "sightings" but am very aware that these reporters who claim to know so much were just as much in the dark as the rest of us when it came to their return

Another point is that, in the "engagements" Harry's supposed to be doing, I see no mention of Meghan also attending. Hmmmm ...

And you're right about Angela Kelly being somewhat cast aside, @TheTwerkingDuchessOfMonteshitshow - had she not been quite so close to the Queen she may not even have got the house - but this is often done when someone in the RF dies. See also the Queen Mother's Billy Tallon and many more

Tomorrow, September 14th, PleasantGreenPorcupine will be driving her elderly neighbour Dorothy to the foot clinic. This is both supporting healthcare and supporting the elderly.
Ms Porcupine is aware of this awesome charitable endeavour.
She accepts no petrol money from Dorothy, but Dorothy will make her a Victoria Sponge by way of thanks.
