A continuation of our continuing discussion of our favourite private citizens! 😁

This is not going to end well.

I think you could be right.

Much as I believe H and M have behaved terribly and only have themselves to blame, I really feel for their two young children that are going to be forever caught up in their parents’ selfish actions.

Yes, I think that's a fair point.

Looks like Richard Branson doesn’t want to be linked to the HaMs either.

I think the sequence of the next news report along is hilarious ….,

“Two arrested in London for Iran secrets”

It’s been quiet today - do we think the ‘useful idiots’ have got themselves in a spot of bother?

Please ignore this. I re-googled after @Puzzledandpissedoff posted below ~ it looks as though she is correct and I am wrong

Many apologies for my error . . .

No need for apologies Austen ! , I was musing out loud! , and I’m really certain that one of these threads has an article with the list and dates of events they were supposed to attend!!
however I’m obviously lazy 😁

Ah thanks puzzled ! , so I’m not losing my marbles! They did release an itinerary with dates that included well child didn’t they??
edit to add ! And it definitely stated that Harry would be attending!

Edited

I didn't see any itinerary, Jeff, but Google AI definitely said 8 September which is why I wondered if there was a mistake somewhere

And no need to be apologetic, @AustenitesUnite; it also said that past events have been held in the autumn (usually September) so I'd have thought there'd have been something by now

Yes ! Thought a bit lengthy to screen shot here. Sounds about right and ties in with what we know about Rory McIlroy

It really does! It's quite the interesting read, thanks @Mylovelygreendress

Leafteaandbiscuits543 · 10/09/2026 10:36

No. It isn’t derailment territory at all. I wasn’t bringing the subject of hereditary monarchy up out of the blue. I did so in response to Chrysanthemumsinpots point below,

It is a very legitimate point of discussion in relation to the ambivalence of Harry’s position because despite not being a working role, he remains a Prince, he is indisputably son of the monarch, and brother to the heir, and fifth in line to the throne and this is the sort of problem that arises when you have a hereditary monarchy. He is still HRH even though they were not meant to use that title.

I was replying to the following post:

Chrysanthemumsinpots · Today 10:32
Of course the King had to make it clear that H is a private citizen if H had been approaching organisations claiming some pseudo-royal standing!! And you can’t do that privately if you need huge diverse range of organisations to have this confirmed.

I merely pointed out that monarchists can’t have it both ways. You complain a lot about Harry but this precise situation is what happens when you have a hereditary system.

The fact that you don’t like this point doesn’t mean it qualifies as a derailment.

I think the problem is that he spent 6 years in a country that rebelled against titles 250 years ago and aren't impressed by him or his wife. I suspect the US school employees didn't bow or curtsey or call the kids HRH.

Edited typos.

AustenitesUnite · 10/09/2026 15:44

And surely this is where charities do best? When people with a close emotional connection or shared experience support a charity? So it's nothing about prestige, showing off at events etc but trying to make the world a better place for people who are experiencing difficulties, one way or another?

I've never understood how H can attend the events he has and not be humbled by the courage of the people he meets. Just thinking about the competitors at Invictus or the seriously ill children at the Well Child awards, so many stories of suffering and courage, yet it's all about HIM!

It's sad because I don't think he was like this originally when the Invictus Games was set up and I believe he truly had empathy with sick children, but it feels to me as though everything has changed and his desperation to be seen in a certain role has trumped the true purpose of supporting these charities

As someone who works with children, the video that annoyed me most when Harry was back in the UK visiting his charities last year, was the one where he was 'play fighting' with balloon swords with a child in a wheelchair.

Harry stood in a proper fencing stance so that the girl had no chance of hitting him, and laughed as he hit her with the balloon sword.
Most adults I know would have allowed the child the opportunity to hit them several times, and 'win' any game.

WingnutSOS · 10/09/2026 16:24

do we still have to go along with the pretendy BetterUp and Travelyst “jobs”?

Pedant61 · 10/09/2026 16:28

Starryfifty · 09/09/2026 21:55

I was watching Dickie Arbiter earlier. He made the point that removing the titles is pointless. They'll fashion themselves as Prince Harry and Princess Meghan

It would have to be removal of both the Dukedom AND the Prince title, a la AMW. So they would simply be Mr and Mrs Henry Mountbatten-Windsor.

Sorry, not what I meant. I meant this is not going to end well for the BRF, I think, unfortunately.

BemusedAmerican · 10/09/2026 16:31

Leafteaandbiscuits543 · 10/09/2026 11:22

No that’s a proper answer!

I believe the origin of the dispute lies with Harry having consistently said that he always wanted to serve in some capacity and the late Queen or whoever was in charge at that point saying no you have to work for the RF and not earn any extra on the side.

What this meant in reality for Harry was despite being closer to the throne than his uncle and aunts , his accommodation and perks would have been substantially less.

And he would have been the only one not raking in extra in some form or another.

Charles and William have the profits from the Duchies and have no money worries whatsoever.

AMW as we now know was doing all sorts of nefarious deals to benefit his own pocket and was allowed to do this for a decade while representing the UK in an official capacity. This was known about and covered up. He also let out cottages in his grounds.

Sophie and Edward live in a £30 million pound mansion and they let parts of that out too.

To me they are all over privileged and entitled but what Harry has done has exposed the hypocrisy of all of them telling him he has to live within the rules, because (had he stayed a working member) it wouldn’t have cost any of them except him to do so!

Edited

Well, they aren't posing on the sides of massive wildfires and massacres and then trying to sell clothing. Paris Hilton donated a lot of money to an LA animal charity after the fire because she's a pet lover and wanted to help. Other people risked their lives saving horses, etc.

When I saw HAM posing on that wildfire site all I could think about was the people who couldn't go back to those houses to see if their pets survived but those 2, who lived hours outside of that area, rocked up for a photo op.

For two people who claim to live pets and wildlife, they are all talk and no action.

damnatiomemoriae · 10/09/2026 16:32

I disagree.

I think the royal family will likely be fine.

H&M will likely stumble from one disaster to the next.

Apparently the photo of Harry taken at the studios the other day has been removed from the studio Instagram, the one where he seems to have drawn his todger as his signature,

Zara Tindall is a patron of quite a few charities , many of which do indeed focus on equine welfare.

ROR supports the welfare and retraining of retired racehorses.
World Horse Welfare: Focuses on improving the lives of horses through rescue and education.
Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund: Helps individuals injured in horse-related accidents.
Catwalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust and UK Spinal Injuries Association: Funds research and support for spinal cord injuries.
Riding for the Disabled Association: Provides therapeutic riding for disabled individuals.

But also:

Lucy Air Ambulance for Children: The UK's first dedicated air transfer service designed to fly critically ill infants and children to urgent hospital care.
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children: She continues a long-standing family history of supporting this prominent children's medical facility.
Cancer Research UK: Supports cancer research and awareness initiatives.

While all of that work is admirable, I think it is unlikely that an ordinary professional event rider would have the means or the time to support so many charities, or indeed would be asked to do so , so it’s clear that some of her charity work has come about because she is royal even if she is not an official working royal. But of course the main distinction is that as a private individual she doesn’t receive tax payer public money.

So why is it so bad that as a private individual Harry also wants to do charity work and earn money on the side too?

So why is it so bad that as a private individual Harry also wants to do charity work and earn money on the side too?
Maybe because he wants to use the charity work as a means of `’earning” (ha!) money, and not to benefit the charity? He has a long and distasteful reputation of milking any organisation he’s involved with dry, whilst conferring no actual benefit whatsoever.

I’m not on insta - but I think I read somewhere it is still there - just that you have to look for it (maybe not on the first page?).

It does look like a todge though. Yuck.

damnatiomemoriae · 10/09/2026 16:43

No surprise.

The behaviour and expectations would be enough to kill it dead.

If they had cared - truly cared - about the cause and the people involved, then I think it would stand a chance.

I’ve seen no evidence of that.

You weren't alone, bluegreygreen; it takes an unusual mindset not even to allow a sick child that, but I can't say I was surprised in light of the rest of his behaviour
