The first step in a coup d’état is to gain control of the army apart from the head of state. We think of Harry as being idiotic and vain but if you are sensitive to such actions then the attempt to bypass the head of state and seek loyalty from armed forces would look very concerning

I think this is really important - I am not going to articulate this very well, but it is all about why there has to be a framework and rules and order.

We can't let people undermine this as it then threatens society as a whole- yes Harry might just be a bumbling idiot, but that makes him even more dangerous - we don't know who is pulling the strings.

Absolutely this. He is a willing fool and powerful people with bad intentions can manipulate him. Think about how foolish he was making a statement about the humanitarian corridor in the recent ME conflict.
Oh yes, a senior army position, it'll suit me fine.....

As the saying goes, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. The Firm needs to think carefully about managing Harry. Invictus is tarnished and may not even go ahead, so who knows what happens next. He needs to be given something meaningful to do as a “private citizen” allowing him to get involved in charitable work, but nothing connected to the military, as has been patiently explained by pp.

I do think he should keep his title at least for the time being. If they are taken away and he feels he has lost everything, he could become a danger to himself or others. Perhaps a UK based project supporting recovering addicts, conservation, animal welfare or environmental causes could give him a sense of purpose without putting him back in a military role. Some sort of pocket money from daddy and school fees paid under the condition to STFU.

Whilst I agree he needs managing any thought of him regarding animal welfare charities would be an insult given his treatment of his poor polo ponies.
He infamously uses his spurs (horrid things) to the point there is a photo of a grey pony with blood dripping down her sides with H sat on top uncaring.
Then of course he loves to shoot animals.

Ditto mental health, he is the exact opposite of a good avert for the benefit of therapy.

Drugs wise, well there is quite a lot of doubt that he ever stopped taking them.

As regards the environment, this would a joke considering his penchant for private jets.

I can’t think of any good cause which would suit.

Maybe he has to be paid for by KC forever like his uncle AMW in order to manage him with a conduct clause tightly controlling payments?

Although this seems very unfair it might end up as the least awful option.

Otherwise I worry he could be manipulated as a useful idiot by the super rich who we know love to play politics and manipulate in order to make themselves even richer.

In fact I wonder if this is already happening given his love for very expensive freebies and favours from new “friends”.

We have already seen the happen with AMW.

Whilst I am not suggesting in anyway that H is involved with disgusting sexual predatory behaviour it is clear he likes easy money and is very dim.

This could be very useful to the wrong people.

I am not saying that Harry and Meghan caused Charles and Catherine’s cancers, but the stress of their accusations about racism and trying to point fingers at Camilla and Catherine will not have helped their health. I don’t know enough about the causes of cancer but is stress a contributing factor to cancer diagnoses? Charles had both his parents die in quickish time, he had to assume the mantle of being King and all that entails. William and Catherine moved up the ranks which also brought baggage with it. And then Manchild Harry and his theatrical wife have been on the attack since they got married. They marred the last years of the late Queen’s life, particularly her widowhood. Very pressurised circumstances.

Charles can’t keep the same distance as William, but if I were William I would be keeping the dastardly duo away from Catherine and his kids for a very long time, if not forever. Maybe in his head Harry was a contributing factor to his wife’s health issues. Camilla is nobody’s fool, I bet she is itching to tell Harry to F off. And probably doesn’t want them around Charles either, fot his health.

My blood pressure raises about them, can you imagine having to be in the same family. The dread of what comes next.

They have set up an offshoot charity for the Birmingham games with Vicky Gosling as chair. You wonder why a charity with one core purpose (running the games) needs to do this. There should be more transparency with funding and expenses, especially the games rely heavily on government / state money support.

Edited

I didn't know about the "offshoot", Salty tea, but like you can't understand the point ... unless it's even easier to siphon money from that Confused

I'll have to look into this Lord Allen, but in the meantime we'll done, @HoldMyWine, for spotting that H&M used the "private citizens" first. Hard to see how they can now object to Charles using it too, but then they object to anything that doesn't come from them

Lifestooshort71 · 10/09/2026 09:10

There is no need at all to remove any of their titles. Apart from possibly making the establishment/KC look spiteful, they are themselves doing a grand job of making the 'D&D of Sussex' irrelevant around the world - the titles themselves will become synonymous with wouldn't-touch-it-with-a-bargepole.

I saw a bit of the programme about the day the Queen died a couple of days ago - I forgot how unforgivably H had behaved around the flight to Scotland and the demand that he bring his wife and making it about him.

My cancer diagnosis came at an extremely stressful time although doctors insisted it was coincidental.
Having said that, I was advised to avoid stress during treatment .

The letter was said to have blindsided Harry and Meghan, who claimed they did not have enough time to clarify the King's points before the guidance was released to the media.

Why would they need to clarify (alter?) anything?

It wasn't their letter!

I agree with Jon Sopel that in the long run, far from playing a blinder, the Royal Family have done themselves absolutely no favours by having this dispute play out in public. They should never have let it get this far. Harry is never going to disappear in a cloud of smoke however much they might want him to. This rivalry between the brothers could potentially rumble on for years! Just pick up the phone and speak to one another like normal people fhs!

As Sopel said, all of this rivalry between different factions, speaks of a family who loathe one another frankly and by all accounts the antipathy between Charles and William is considerable too. It’s not just the relationship with Harry that has broken down.

And once the furore in the press has died down, BP have caused a big stir for nothing because they have only re-stated the Sandringham agreement that was never written down or signed, and Harry, who never agreed to it, is still factually a Prince and can still visit charities as a private person. And the antipathy rankles on.

Whoever you think is to blame, it’s not a good look from the Head of State who is meant to be fulfilling a professional role and the positive things that they and other members of the RF are doing are being overshadowed by this division which plays in to the hands of the press, over and over again.

These publicly warring factions are also playing in to the hands of Republicans bc they highlight the downsides of having a hereditary monarchy and a royal family instead of an elected head of state.

If we are going to have a royal family then they need to keep their disputes to themselves and present a united, professional front. But atm we have the eighth in line to the throne arrested by the police for potentially criminal charges and the fifth in line exposing the toxicity of it all!

This is not what the taxpayers expect when they collectively hand over their £132 million a year to keep the institution running.

Exactly how are the RF to blame?
They've been dignified and restrained.
What would you have them do? Clap back on every tall tale and wild claim made by the Sussex duo?
I'm glad they didn't lower themselves.
Oh, and please point out the "public warring factions"?
It's from the Sussex side only.

Not much sympathy from the Guardian.

On a side note I hope the media aren’t going to report every clapback. Obviously there’ll always be articles online but does it need to be on the Radio 4 headline news about HAM being “surprised” by the statement?

This is just wonderful 😂
The Guardian were originally sympathetic, but don't mention HaM often as they are above royal family gossip.
Emma Brockes had fun writing this.

Of course the King had to make it clear that H is a private citizen if H had been approaching organisations claiming some pseudo-royal standing!! And you can’t do that privately if you need huge diverse range of organisations to have this confirmed.

There is no 'rivalry between the brothers'. One is Prince of Wales, with a stable family life and an established role. The other points at his crotch in his wife's twerking videos.

As best as we know, they haven't really spoken in years. It's a shame but it happens. But that's not a 'rivalry' because the two brothers are on entirely different levels.

Whoever you think is to blame, it’s not a good look from the Head of State

It's a very good look. As head of the monarchy Charles needs to ensure there is no ambiguity about who is serving that institution and who is not. Clearly there was some ambiguity and Charles, as King, has now cleared that up for all.

Harry is free to do all the 'charity work' he likes, just like any other citizen. But it's now been made very clear that he is doing so in a private capacity, not as a representative of the monarchy.

Clarity is always a good thing, don't you think?

CathyorClaire · 10/09/2026 09:34

At this point I would not be surprised if Invictus 2027 gets cancelled.

I agree entirely.

I think Uganda is likely to just be the first country to jump ship and others will now follow.

I also think the brand is now too tainted to carry any charitable credibility and that, combined with the extra costs a bankrupt city will be expected to shoulder gives Brum a great let out.

I'll be 'surprised' myself if it goes ahead.

LaMarschallin · 10/09/2026 09:35

He needs some focus, other than complaining about his family and security, and Invictus would seem to be that focus.
The trouble is, that's all he's got, so he's inflating it a ridiculous amount. All these countdown events! For the Olympics or the World Cup, maybe, but it's getting a bit OTT.
He needs something else because that and seeking IPP status seem to be becoming his complete identity.
Maybe he should be a full-time dad, like he said he is, but he should be one properly. It's not just a tag because you have children, it requires actual input. Like not regularly buggering off halfway round the world without them
Otherwise, I still count as a "full-time mother"; no parent ever isn't their child's mother or father.
God only knows what the "jobs" of "Prince of England" and "Duke" entail.
The county of Sussex doesn't seem to require his input.

Notmybestusername · 10/09/2026 09:35

They should actually take this to MN to sort out. It's the only logical solution.

AIBU board:

"I flounced off abroad from my DBro and DDad with my stbxw. I want back in because I need DDad's help <cough, money> to sort out an international child arrangements order. DDad has told me to jog on. He's wrong btw. I think he is BU. AIBU?"

Excellent points, @IcedPurple- spot on.
William isn't engaging in any rivalry. He's just getting on with things.
KC is acting quite correctly with the clarification of the current situation.
