He needs some focus, other than complaining about his family and security, and Invictus would seem to be that focus.
The trouble is, that's all he's got, so he's inflating it a ridiculous amount. All these countdown events! For the Olympics or the World Cup, maybe, but it's getting a bit OTT.
He needs something else because that and seeking IPP status seem to be becoming his complete identity.
Maybe he should be a full-time dad, like he said he is, but he should be one properly. It's not just a tag because you have children, it requires actual input. Like not regularly buggering off halfway round the world without them
Otherwise, I still count as a "full-time mother"; no parent ever isn't their child's mother or father.
God only knows what the "jobs" of "Prince of England" and "Duke" entail.
The county of Sussex doesn't seem to require his input.

Being from Sussex I do think some kind of democratic vote would have been useful in the appointment of the abeyanced un-HRH Sussexes. misses point of monarchy

The fact that H blames the letter for issues at Invictus shows he thinks Invictus is about him not veterans. If it were really about veterans then he would step away for becoming a distraction, or be given the shove by the board.

I agree with Jon Sopel that in the long run, far from playing a blinder, the Royal Family have done themselves absolutely no favours by having this dispute play out in public. They should never have let it get this far. Harry is never going to disappear in a cloud of smoke however much they might want him to. This rivalry between the brothers could potentially rumble on for years! Just pick up the phone and speak to one another like normal people fhs!

As Sopel said, all of this rivalry between different factions, speaks of a family who loathe one another frankly and by all accounts the antipathy between Charles and William is considerable too. It’s not just the relationship with Harry that has broken down.

And once the furore in the press has died down, BP have caused a big stir for nothing because they have only re-stated the Sandringham agreement that was never written down or signed, and Harry, who never agreed to it, is still factually a Prince and can still visit charities as a private person. And the antipathy rankles on.

Whoever you think is to blame, it’s not a good look from the Head of State who is meant to be fulfilling a professional role and the positive things that they and other members of the RF are doing are being overshadowed by this division which plays in to the hands of the press, over and over again.

These publicly warring factions are also playing in to the hands of Republicans bc they highlight the downsides of having a hereditary monarchy and a royal family instead of an elected head of state.

If we are going to have a royal family then they need to keep their disputes to themselves and present a united, professional front. But atm we have the eighth in line to the throne arrested by the police for potentially criminal charges and the fifth in line exposing the toxicity of it all!

This is not what the taxpayers expect when they collectively hand over their £132 million a year to keep the institution running.

I respectfully disagree . Given the Sussex shenanigans , the leaks , PR spin etc , I think KC was absolutely right to issue the letter . Clear , unambiguous and polite .

Of course the King had to make it clear that H is a private citizen if H had been approaching organisations claiming some pseudo-royal standing!! And you can’t do that privately if you need huge diverse range of organisations to have this confirmed.

He isn’t pseudo royal though is he?

He is, whether you like it or not, son of a King and brother of the heir and future King.

It was agreed that they wouldn’t use HRH titles but they haven’t been removed formally.

He is still fifth in line to the throne.

What this debacle is doing is exposing the downsides of having a hereditary monarchy.

Monarchists can’t have it both ways; you either accept this antiquated system and that means you accept unsuitable people either getting the top job or ranking highly in the line to succession, or you don’t.

Guest385 · 10/09/2026 09:44

Interesting point. I believe that letter was triggered by H tapping up military organisations offering his services.
Who knows whose funding them, we know they like the big bucks and they have shown how much they dislike the UK and our institutions, well until they changed their mind a couple of weeks ago. Its all odd behaviour.

LaMarschallin · 10/09/2026 09:45

PleasantGreenPorcupine · 10/09/2026 09:29

Exactly how are the RF to blame?
They've been dignified and restrained.
What would you have them do? Clap back on every tall tale and wild claim made by the Sussex duo?
I'm glad they didn't lower themselves.
Oh, and please point out the "public warring factions"?
It's from the Sussex side only.

Edited

From the beginning (only yesterday??), Sussex fans have wanted to play this down. First, it was "only in the rubbishy DM", then it was "It was done with the collaboration of the Sussexes to stop the press harassing them", then "Why even bother putting out this letter - we all know about the Sandringham Agreement?".
Now it's "it doesn't matter because Harry's still a Prince and will do what he wants anyway".
Fair enough, but it eventually had to be pointed out that he's not doing it under the auspices of the RF.
Nobody wants to wash their dirty linen in public, but also nobody should be blackmailed into keeping quiet because, basically, "it's a bad look".

Eta I hope amongst all that you realise I'm agreeing with you, PleasantGreenPorcupine

Or you can understand that it's a Constitutional Monarchy, in which Parliament is Sovereign.
It seems to me that the hardline monarchists don't understand this, and would kowtow to Harry, just because he's a Prince.
They defend him - even on here - no matter what.

As the saying goes, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. The Firm needs to think carefully about managing Harry. Invictus is tarnished and may not even go ahead, so who knows what happens next. He needs to be given something meaningful to do as a “private citizen” allowing him to get involved in charitable work, but nothing connected to the military, as has been patiently explained by pp.

I do think he should keep his title at least for the time being. If they are taken away and he feels he has lost everything, he could become a danger to himself or others. Perhaps a UK based project supporting recovering addicts, conservation, animal welfare or environmental causes could give him a sense of purpose without putting him back in a military role. Some sort of pocket money from daddy and school fees paid under the condition to STFU.

Putting a known drug user - do we know if he has quit? - in charge of a recovering addicts charity or a known animal abuser in charge of animal welfare is akin to rehabilitating known thieves by giving them a job as a domestic help for your aged gran.

As for the conservation and environment stuff - he is dragging Travelyst's reputation with his private jetting.

Let him just be a SAH dad.

@PleasantGreenPorcupine All he knows is that once he was very rich and popular without having to do a great deal, and stuff was dealt with/paid for and he didn't have to worry. He wants that back.
Absolutely this 👍

However now we know what a nasty, back stabbing, sniveling, little gobshiite he is, that isn't on the table, I doubt anyone will turn out and cheer for him again. Love and respect has to be earned. Not sure tough love and rehab will help. Once the delusion is removed from his eyes I don't think he will be able to cope, knowing he is not well liked, a laughing stock and his wife doesn't love him, only his position, I don't think his ego could take it. AMW doesn't care what anyone thinks as long as he has his luxury but h does.

Not much sympathy from the Guardian.

On a side note I hope the media aren’t going to report every clapback. Obviously there’ll always be articles online but does it need to be on the Radio 4 headline news about HAM being “surprised” by the statement?

Oh that’s brilliant

I am sure the RF would rather have handled this privately. Unfortunately for them they had H&M going on OW, writing a 'memoir' and putting out their complaints to the world press.

I am not sure what the RF could do, other than shrug their shoulders, carry on as usual and when necessary issue a short statement. Which I think they have done twice? In 6 years? The 'recollections may vary' statement and this letter.

TheTwerkingDuchessOfMonteshitshow · 10/09/2026 09:54

I’ve led a sheltered life when it comes to the world of drugs and the fact Harry took them was a shock to me.

All the talk of rehab on the thread has got me wondering if people really do believe he still takes them and genuinely does need to be in rehab?

eta- I hadn’t read the post above questioning if he’d quit when I posted.

Mmm if we really did have a constitutional monarchy where Parliament is sovereign, which btw is what a large percentage of the population thought we had, then the Royal Family wouldn’t have so many tax exemptions, and all of the laws governing land would apply to them too, the Erskine May tradition wouldn’t exist, nor would King’s consent, and who knows, Andrew Lownie may not have faced quite so many Freedom of Information requests being declined, and MPs would’t have found it such a struggle to win parliamentary time in which to debate the thorny issue of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

I've been cantering through this thread and what keeps coming to mind is One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - because it seems to me Harry is spiralling and heading for some sort of MH intervention (although no-one would wish him to suffer the same fate as Jack Nicholson's character).

TheTwerkingDuchessOfMonteshitshow · 10/09/2026 10:03

I think this is a gross generalisation regarding ‘normal people’ when the threads on other boards tell us day in and day out that normal people deal with family problems in many different ways.
