King Charles orders Harry and Meghan to be treated like ordinary citizens

Apparently an order has gone out from King Charles saying that Harry and Meghan are to be treated like ordinary citizens as they are not working members of the royal family. That's according to the DM so it must be right. The thought of those two being pleased at being ordinary is too much.

I wonder just how low they will keep their profile and if it's to do with them wishing to be involved in charities. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to set up their own mock royal court.

It’s an official statement from the king being reported in every single media outlet! , sorry it’s very much true!

Perhaps so…….but ALL the news agencies massage facts to emphasise their headlines

dustabsorber · 07/09/2026 18:18

So if they turn up at the village fête, how do we address them?

An accusation of racism is entirely appropriate if that was the way the RF felt about the inclusion of MM into the family.

You seem to think this inbred German clan were bestowing a huge honour on someone vastly inferior to them when they 'allowed' her to marry in.

Oh not this again. The RF were thrilled to have a bi-racial woman marry in - it was a marvellous opportunity for them in so many ways. And they made huge efforts to make things work but M didn’t want it to work, did she?

ItsAlwaysTwins · 07/09/2026 18:19

To be honest, I’d rather like it if Harry and Meghan did set up a rival court.

I want skullduggery. I want secret alliances, suspicious disappearances, outrageous claims to the throne, midnight plots, imprisonment in the Tower, poisoned goblets, dramatic accusations of treason and, naturally, a few completely unjustified beheadings.

Much more entertaining than this dreary old nonsense.

JoanChitty · 07/09/2026 18:20

Since Meghan Markle has tried to erase any of her AficanAmerican heritage,
called herself Caucasian and does not appear to have anything to do with her mother’s black family it would appear that she has the issues not the BRF.

Mr and Mrs Battenberg-Cake, or Mr and Mrs Markle-Spencer, as suggested by pps above.

How exactly can they massage a written statement from the king? , you are aware that that is illegal.

Sidebeforeself · 07/09/2026 18:21

I’m just putting this out there , as a private citizen, that tomorrow I will be going to my local Oxfam store to donate some books. I assume I will have security provided and that cameras will be there?

I’m too polite to answer! 😁

And if it’s true that Meghan felt sidelined and humiliated at the Highgrove meeting can you imagine what the atmosphere will be like at Chez Sussex now!

A smack down is exactly what it is . Obviously I don’t know however I suspect KC has been made aware of HaM’s plans and is concerned .

No, it is a clarification for county officials wrt titles and also wrt policing responsibility, and was probably issued in response to questions from county officials.

The Duke and Duchess themselves have not stated they intend to swan in and play at being royal. The King has not been reported to say, "Over my dead body!" when informed of their planned return to the UK. The idea that the King, an old man probably dying of cancer, would purposely insult or humiliate his son and jeopardise his chance of a relationship with his grandchildren is one people should be ashamed of.

Ah but H&M would be spilling their cunning plans to various outlets and would likely come adrift long before their cunning plans could take effect.

It has definitely been spun here on MN.

No surprises, just questions about the amount of free time some people seem to have.

I’m retired . My cleaner was here this morning so I have lots of free time !

damnatiomemoriae · 07/09/2026 18:26

‘An old man dying of cancer’ would do as good dads do and put clear guidelines in place for a misbehaving child.

They would also quietly support the child who has not caused them grief and has quietly supported his family instead of seeking to destroy it.

The shame belongs to Harry.

I hope the floors are all spotlessly clean, just in case Meghan feels the need to cry on them. According to her husband, she does that quite a bit.

They can use their titles in the same way that the York sisters use theirs. It doesn't mean they have any official status.

However, they cannot use HRH, which is the 'trademark' of royalty. That's what the Palace really care about.

And they have form for doing just that.

But that was OK because it was for personal purposes, it definitely wasn't ever supposed to end up on social media...

Meghan uses 'HRH' title but denies breaking rules

The Duchess of Sussex was seen using the HRH title on a gift card to a friend.

They are already pretending to be working royals. Quote 'Prince Harry has announced his first public engagement.' A sky dive for a military charity. Do ordinary citizens have 'public engagements'. Not as far as I'm aware. Didn't take long.

Perhaps they are just claiming to be Celebs, which is fair enough.

Middlemarch123 · 07/09/2026 18:28

I actually think Harry will be fine with his dad’s statement, probably knew in advance. I think he’s happier in the UK.

As for Me-again, she’ll be fuming and will leave for USA as soon as possible, which was probably Harry’s plan all along. They’ll be divorced within a year.

I wonder what happened to all that expensive designer gear Charles paid for when she was a working royal? Bespoke Givenchy, Dior, Stella McCartney etc
Some very, very expensive stuff.

It was way beyond anything the other royal women wore. That engagement outfit…the dress cost over £50K - unbelievable! After getting the bill for one of the tours the Queen told her off about her crazy extravagance with clothes.

She really thought she’d have A-lister clothes on the back of the British taxpayer, didn’t she? So vulgar and greedy. Catherine wears high street stuff or special outfits a fraction of the price of one of M’s designer get-ups.
