King Charles orders Harry and Meghan to be treated like ordinary citizens

Apparently an order has gone out from King Charles saying that Harry and Meghan are to be treated like ordinary citizens as they are not working members of the royal family. That's according to the DM so it must be right. The thought of those two being pleased at being ordinary is too much.

I wonder just how low they will keep their profile and if it's to do with them wishing to be involved in charities. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to set up their own mock royal court.

I thought everyone knew this and that's why there weren't any statements made from the British govt when they visited Australia etc. Or did I miss something?

Well, clearly not everyone knew this....

The only people who did not know are those who pay zero attention to the world around them

There weren't any statements because presumably BP didn't want to set a precedent of making public statements every time the influencer and her husband went on a jolly to some random country.

However, now that they're back in Britain it seems there have been a number of enquiries as to their exact status. Hence the clarification. Hopefully it's now clear to all concerned that the Sussexes are private citizens and should be treated as such.

How can people just decide to treat non working royals who don’t represent the monarchy in any official capacity…as working royals who do represent the monarchy officially?
is that a bit clearer?

Also, they’re both such grifting self serving idiots, I’m sure the crown doesn’t want these countries / organisations believing they’re actually nothing to do with them

Nicely put.
Please can we just redirect anybody who keeps saying "But what does it meeeeeeean?" to it.
It'll be like Bill Murray learning to play the piano in Groundhog Day - eventually it'll sink in.

Yes they already had the unfortunate meeting with the indigenous peoples in Canada where Harry made all kinds of comments that as a non representative of the monarchy could never be honoured ! 😬

Can someone practically explain what not being treated as a working royal means in practice? I keep asking this and no one answers.

There's lots of information about this question all over the thread.

It's about what's officially royal and what isn't. Surely you understand the difference?

It has implications for foreign 'tours' 🙄, charity work and appearances where speeches are made. KC doesn't want to take the rap for Harry's embarrassing gaffes and insults or Meghan's weird word-salads. All working royals' speeches are gone over with a fine tooth comb to be very precise in their meaning, not to offend or touch on sensitive issues and not to imply or promise things accidentally. Harry has already visited Ukraine and it would be bad if he said anything which might be thought to be the official UK line.

As other pps have said, BP don't want charities etc sending the bill for H & M's huge expense demands to the RF either.

And if H is going to get into trouble and scandals with his charities, as he has with Sentebale, and might well with Invictus (things are looking decidedly dodgy there) it has to be understood that it's Harry, the private citizen, and not the RF behind any mess-ups.

Is that clear enough?

Yes, but who? Who has been treating them like royalty or not understanding the Sandringham agreement who works in an official capacity? They had the anthem played for them and did a military inspection in Nigeria. Was that a diplomatic faux pas by Nigeria, or can they just roll out the metaphorical red carpet if they want to? Is there a set of rules somewhere for this stuff?

I rest my case, Jeff!

I do wish people couldn't name change so I could keep track of the posters who like to insult others.

And Harry himself of course, who has referred to himself as a working royal at least twice since he left. Maybe it was more for him and they released it because Charles thought Harry might pay more attention if it was in the press.

I am wondering what the next H&M move will be now?

Will they push on regardless or will they realise it is finally time to respect boundaries and embrace the life they said they wanted as private citizens?

If they do carry on as normal trampling on their family and the country will KC have no option but to remove their titles?

Will they flounce off again flourishing the published letter as proof of victimhood?

If so, where to try next?

I hear failed royals are very popular in the middle east.

No one will care if they remove their titles.
People only cared at the idea of removing Harry's titles and not Andrews.

But so what? It won't affect what they do.

This doesn’t make sense - if people cared at the idea of removing Harry’s titles, surely they will care if they remove his titles?
