King Charles orders Harry and Meghan to be treated like ordinary citizens

Apparently an order has gone out from King Charles saying that Harry and Meghan are to be treated like ordinary citizens as they are not working members of the royal family. That's according to the DM so it must be right. The thought of those two being pleased at being ordinary is too much.

I wonder just how low they will keep their profile and if it's to do with them wishing to be involved in charities. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to set up their own mock royal court.

I have name changed.

I don’t believe I have insulted anyone.

I am wondering what the next H&M move will be now?

Will they push on regardless or will they realise it is finally time to respect boundaries and embrace the life they said they wanted as private citizens?

If they do carry on as normal trampling on their family and the country will KC have no option but to remove their titles?

Will they flounce off again flourishing the published letter as proof of victimhood?

If so, where to try next?

I hear failed royals are very popular in the middle east.

They've ignored the Sandringham agreement for the last 6 years, so if this statement is just the Sandringham agreement in different words, presume they will carry on as they have been with whoever will pay them or host them.

Well, clearly not everyone knew this....

Speculation here but I rather suspect that H&/orM have been suggesting places charge to BP, wondering if the Sussex ‘office’ expenses/set up, security, perhaps things such as chauffeurs / expenses for upcoming ‘visits’ / school fees etc … and, of course, Megains HRH crown donned headed note paper!

Can someone practically explain what not being treated as a working royal means in practice? I keep asking this and no one answers.

A working royal is a member of the British royal family who officially represents the monarch at public, state, and charitable engagement.

They are representing the crown/state not themselves.

Their official duties and staff expenses are supported through funds like the Sovereign Grant and royal duchy revenues rather than private jobs. Unlike non-working royals, every official engagement they perform is recorded in the Court Circular, the official daily record of royal events. They tend to get state secuirty during these engagements as well - as they are representing the state.

So if Harry and wife turn up to charity events they are doing it as themselves - which other RF no working members also do. But they do not represent the UK state - nor the monarch and any events would not be offical state occasions.

I think that why the letter says if there is confusion for charties and use of public money they need to check with the palace - as Harry and Meghan are not entitled to use public money so any charities organisers would have to be very careful not to use public money for them.

CoffeeCantata · 08/09/2026 16:52

@Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit

I was wondering about this. They must be pretty cross. They'd have been much wiser to say nothing in clapback to the announcement from BP - much more dignified.

They've done the US, Canada, the UK once before and told the world all kinds of nasty things about us. So - Portugal? But that won't offer them many opportunities for what they like doing best: making flashy appearances and self-important speeches.

They remind me of a couple I knew once who moved about every 3 years. They were searching for something which didn't exist and it never dawned on them that the problem was THEM.

This doesn’t make sense - if people cared at the idea of removing Harry’s titles, surely they will care if they remove his titles?
(edit to remove random word)

Edited

No. They cared about Andrew. We kept being told titles could not be removed. They obviously can.
So anything removed for harry can clearly be removed. So people wanted the same for Andrew.
I don't think royalists understand the depth of disgust most people have for Andrew.

Okay so it simply means they can be a patron, but not royal patron and the taxpayers don't pay for their visits.

Everyone knows this. It makes little to no difference to what they decide to do as private citizens.

Royal patrons are appointed by the way. Charities don't get t9 decide who they have anyway

I didn’t say charities could choose a royal patron, I said it would stop charities claiming they had a royal patron if they invited the Sussexes to be patrons

The fact that it has been made clear that the Sussexes would only be private patrons is quite revealing in that it would imply that there has been a misunderstanding somewhere. You say everyone knows that the Sussexes would be private patrons. As pp have said, clearly everyone doesn’t if clarity has had to be provided. It also suggests that the Sussexes were out for something for nothing imo

Charities know the score. Unless absolutely tiny they understand the process to have a royal patron.

No one will care if they remove their titles.
People only cared at the idea of removing Harry's titles and not Andrews.

But so what? It won't affect what they do.

I'm honestly not sure if you can possibly believe half of the things you are writing because nothing you say has any factual basis.

Really? We will see. Remove them. Make a big song and dance about it. It won't matter. Harry is still a prince on his birth certificate so presumably that can not be removed. Nobody cares about anything else.

You're frankly being obtuse at this point.

As I and others have pointed out, the letter specifically said that it was in response to various enquiries. So clearly, despite your repeated claims to the contrary, some people did NOT know all this. If they did, why was the letter issued? For a lark?

Most people, including royalists, understand the depth of disgust there is for Andrew.

There. Fixed it.

Making sweeping statements like that isn’t helpful. Or factual.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 08/09/2026 16:58

@AprilMizzel Also the palace don’t just organise visits alone. The Lord Lieutenants do a lot of the groundwork as they are the Kings representatives in certainly the Shire Counties. Their staff liaise with the palace about the structure and logistics of visits so everything works according to a drawn up plan. M&H have no representation to call on. The working Royals also get security and Harry had already lost that case in court.

Oh, you said people only cared about the idea of removing Harry’s titles, not Andrew’s.

Harry hasn’t had any titles removed so what do you mean people wanted the same for Andrew? Andrew (removal) got the exact opposite to Harry (no removal), not the same.

The lord lieutenants do a lot of charity visits by themselves. They try to get to know local charities. They are unpaid volunteers and do a lot of work for no real personal gain.

I hope you don't mind me commenting on what you said here even though you weren't replying to me, and I don't expect you to reply.

It seems to me that Meghan at least doesn't care about being a working royal or with giving the impression that she is one. But she wants to be treated as "royalty" in the fairytale sense, and as a stateswoman/political activist in the Hilary Clinton cos play sense, and have the red carpet rolled out and powerful people fawning over her. It's an ego feeding thing. And I don't think she thinks the Sandringham agreement has any bearing on getting this treatment, hence all the faux royal tours. And the sad thing is, they have not really suffered any consequences for all the bad stuff they have said and done while subject to the Sandringham Agreement, so what is stopping them just carrying on with people/countries/organisations foolish enough to still have them? They weren't using (UK) public money money then, and if another country chooses to use tax payers money, which I think happened in Australia, then there's nothing to be done about it, is there?
