King Charles orders Harry and Meghan to be treated like ordinary citizens

Apparently an order has gone out from King Charles saying that Harry and Meghan are to be treated like ordinary citizens as they are not working members of the royal family. That's according to the DM so it must be right. The thought of those two being pleased at being ordinary is too much.

I wonder just how low they will keep their profile and if it's to do with them wishing to be involved in charities. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to set up their own mock royal court.

Do Beatrice and eugenie get any royal protection? They use their titles and are non working royals?

No - they used to when they were younger but just before William got married in 2011 their Royal protection officers got pulled - they were 5 and 6 in line to the throne at the time - same as Harry and Archie now.

Andrew was furious about it at the time. I think Kate was assigned one of the female officers who had been with either Beatrice or Eugenie which rubbed salt into the wound.

I am actually laughing at your interpretations and transparent determination in your one upmanship, it's pathetic to read.

As before, I perfectly understand how RAVEC works, it's a shame so many on here and the numerous threads on this clearly do not. At all.

But then these are the same people referring to people they have never met in derogatory ways, this couple can't win, whatever they do (or not). FWIW I have no desire to see them being working royals any more than I want to purchase mass produced jam. That doesn't equate though to me wishing complete strangers, or their children ill.

Didn't you already get a post deleted for making unpleasant, unsubstantiated accusations against your fellow posters?

Anyway, if you're only here to insult people and not to actually discuss the facts of the matter under debate, I'll not waste time engaging with you from now on.

Please show me where someone has wished their children ill.

But then these are the same people referring to people they have never met in derogatory ways,

How does that fit in with describing someone’s interpretation on various posts as being ‘pathetic’ to read and ‘laughing at your interpretations and transparent determination in your one upmanship’.

Not that I am aware of no. But then there are many false statements thrown across this thread.

I am here with an opinion that differs from yours, as all things internet chat go.

I think your response is a classic example of "people in glass houses...." but you do you.... Sleep well ;-)

AlexandraCarrington · 07/09/2026 22:15

When Charles became king her title was initially Queen Consort but over time the palace started calling her Queen Camilla. If you google Camilla having Covid, the BP press realise calls her Queen Consort Camilla.

She was always the queen because she was married to the king. She was initially referred to as queen consort because when anyone said 'the queen' everyone immediately thought of the late queen. Around the time of the coronation, when everyone had got more used to it, 'queen consort' was dropped and she was referred to as 'the queen'. Which she always had been anyway.

Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra were always 'the queen', never 'queen consort'.

damnatiomemoriae · 07/09/2026 22:16

And as someone who knows all about RAVEC and credible threats, would this utterance require enhanced security?

Harry called a nearby Typhoon fighter jet and told the pilot:
“New target. Gray Audi. Headed southeast from my position down track. Towards a big silver barn oriented east-west. The Typhoon tracked Pa, did a low pass straight over him, almost shattering the windows of his Audi. But ultimately spared him. On my orders. It went on to blow a silver barn to smithereens.”

Or would they look at it from coming out of the mouth of a delusional fool and ignore it for the nonsense it was?

For those who don’t remember, when KC got married, us gullible public were told that Camilla would NEVER be Queen and that when Charles became king she would be called the Princess Consort.

However the MiB played a blinder with the media and managed to change public opinion so that on the eve of her Platinum Jubilee, the Queen said she wanted Camilla to be known as Queen Consort when Charles became king.

When Charles became king her title was initially Queen Consort but over time the palace started calling her Queen Camilla. If you google Camilla having Covid, the BP press realise calls her Queen Consort Camilla.

I mean I would never call her Queen but she does have my respect for keeping her head down and mouth shut unlike her step son!!

FYI all queens that are queen because they are married to the monarch are “queen consort”. It just isn’t normally used, so the queen is known as “Queen First Name”. The late queen had to say that she wanted Camilla to be Queen consort because otherwise it would have sounded like she was declaring Camilla as her successor (if she had said I want her to be “Queen”). Camilla was referred to initially as the Queen consort in the media because “the queen “ sounded odd after the death of the queen regnant. As for never being Queen, I think that quietly and rightly died a death after Camilla earned the respect of the late Queen

@IcedPurple He lost at the court of appeal! He’s not getting security and the King is upholding the Judicial decision handed down. It’s a relatively straightforward position to take. Harry left the RF in terms of work but not in terms of family. The King isn’t going to override the court of appeal but Harry ome suspects wanted him to. The speculation about this has led to the statement.

MidlyConcerned · 07/09/2026 22:22

Elizabeth, Mary and Alexandra had completely different “history” than Camilla. At one point she was so hated by the public that QE said she would only be Princess Consort (and not Queen) and didn’t even attend their wedding. But this thread isn’t about Camilla so will bow out now.

This is the most interesting part of the statement- if H and M are like private citizens then surely queries about courtesies should go to them not King Charles!

“Any specific questions from official and State organisations about the courtesies which should be extended to the Duke and Duchess, and particularly where recourse to public funds may be required, should be directed to Buckingham Palace”

Not if the faux royals or their reps are telling the organisers of events that e.g. the local Lord Lieutenant's presence is required when H graces their events and premises.

It sounds like BP might have been getting queries from e. g. Well Child and Scottie's Soldiers asking whether they are required to provide the same reception courtesies that they would for a working royal.

Whether this is just BP getting ahead of the game, rather than responding to organisers contacting them saying "H's people say, when he visits, we've got to <insert working royal requirement here>" - well, I couldn't say.

But it isn't looking good for Invictus 2027.

It’s true that there was the option of Camilla not using the title Queen - she would still have been the Queen of course but could have been styled as Princess Consort.

Just as she was the Princess of Wales for decades but chose not to use the title because of public feeling about Diana.

There will have been focus groups and polling before they announced that she was going to use the title Queen.

That is true.

However times and opinions change. And the late Queen was gracious enough to realise that.

I wonder if she would have ever mellowed about M.

He's already done a visit to some studio and signed a wall. At the weekend. But I don't think this was publicised. I think their intention is or was to carry on with duties and appearances as if they are royal. And this letter is in effect clipping their wings and stating clearly they aren't to be treated as royal. That's my take anyway. I hope it extends to any would be pseudo royal tours abroad.

I think it’s rather undignified and a bit spiteful to publish such a letter regarding your own children, regardless of what you’ve been through with them. Most ordinary people would never do it. No love lost in that ‘family ‘.

It doesn't say anything new that hasn't been made public already. People have a right to know who is and isn't a working royal and what that means.

I agree, it's a poor show, I suppose a sightly posh version of airing your dirty laundry publicly. It seems very sad that this letter has zero affection or goodwill from Father to son, if this was meant to endear KC to the public, surely the wording could have been improved?

ilovemykindle · 07/09/2026 22:34

I wonder what William and Catherine are saying about this letter

AlexandraCarrington · 07/09/2026 22:35

Hated by some of the public. I never hated her.

Known as Princess Consort. She would still have been queen, even if she didn't use the title.

The concept of a morganatic marriage doesn't exist in this country. It was one of the options looked at when Edward wanted to marry Wallis, and it was concluded there was no legal or constitutional basis by which the wife of the king would not be queen, whatever title she chose to go by.
